i'm just tired of waiting but i'm going to wait as long as it takes for them to release the c2d mbp.

The wait does totally suck, I don't think anyone will argue with you on that one!

I can only think that there is a good reason for the wait, and hoping that good reason is them fixing the issues.

To by my MBP i ordered a new 0% credit card, the pin came through today, the card will be here anyday, so dont take too long apple my 0% time is running out!!!

I predict it will be here before end of october, but think apple may wait until nov because of printer offer.

Anyone?

I will keep my eyes out for that one. Where would I really see a difference between 1.83 and 2GHz? Mostly I'll be writing/surfing the web with it but I will be doing some audio and possibly video editing in the future which is why I would rather go with the pro if I can get one that is affordable to me. Thanks for the help!

Anyone have any opinions on the real difference between 1.83 and 2ghz? Thank you!

Maybe Apple has finally learned a lesson from a repeated mistake made in the past. Whenever Apple releases new systems they almost every time muck it up by not having enough inventory to meet the demand. This ends up causing frustration with the consumer and inevitably lost sales.

Maybe this time they are ramping up to have a large inventory to meet potential pent up demand. I am concerned that if the release of these new systems is delayed much further but still in time for the holiday shopping season and then Apple tries to meet the demand with inadequate inventory Apple will have shot itself in the foot and by the sounds of it some folks here may have shot themselves in the head...

So with all of this time that we feel has been squandered, Apple completed the redesign and has been pumping out MB's & MBP's to have ready to go immediately.

probably 10-15% or even less. Basically 1 or 2 seconds faster would be my guess.

I just hope it happens at mwsf now, unlike many people who want it now. If it happens now it's less likely to be redesigned the way we are speculating it to be. It seems if it happened now we would get a processor dropped into the current mbp with the heat issues settled and nothing more than that other than fw800 and dl superdrive in 15" mbp.

Unless you are doing specifically processor intensive tasks, the practical speed different will be close to nothing. The FSB is still only 667mHz, which is a very large bottleneck.

OS X is also a RAM whore, so you're better with more RAM/less processing power, if you have to make the tradeoff.

Its most likely a case re-design as some have suggested. The merom chip is hotter than current Yonahs when stressed and the MBPs are already very thin so generating more heat is not ideal and they might end up with what they were trying to avoid when trying to put a G5 in the PowerBooks. So my guess is they are looking for a way to optimize ventilation.

Another theory could be chip shortages, the 2.33GHz chip to be precise, which, i assum they want to make standard across the board.

Sidenote, i wonder what the next metal will be. We've used magnesium, titanium and aluminium. Whats next?

There has to be a BIG reason for this delay. Definitly a redesign, like a MBP with a slot to put your iPod. :D

It would be nice if a redesign would incorporate a slot to store the Apple Remote. Would definetly be more convenient. I like how you have this option on some PCs, but can't stand the credit card sized ones that go in a PC slot.

Thanks! I was thinking the exact same thing until someone at the mac store told me otherwise (not in so many words). Coming from the PC world I just wanted to make sure.

And that would be enough to make me so very happy!

Thats a great point. When the MacBook rumors were going around, the release seemed to be delayed for a while; when it did finally get released, they shipped immediately with very short wait times.

I'm on the verge of getting a MBP (almost did last night) however the Core 2 Duos will be worth the wait (mainly because they are 64-bit). Any we'll probably get 802.11n Airport cards as well.

So, are we hoping for our minor update to the MBP with C2D in October but expecting major updates at MWSF? If Apple gets any later on the next C2D MBP, say mid-November, then I might just sit tight until January. Anyone else feel the same way?

I've been waiting, impatiently, to upgrade from a 1GHz Titanium PB, using it since 12/02. It's slow as hell, but I use my lappies for 3 years, generally, so I want to buy something that's gonna last me that long. (I'd have upgraded in 12/05, but didn't want to put up with the aging G4 technology, with Intel on the way - and when Yonah debuted, Merom was "just around the corner!")

If Apple plans to just dick around, waiting a month (or longer) after every other manufacturer has been shipping merom lappies, and then just do a simple chip upgrade ..... well, then I'll just wait another couple of months for MWSF.

Very frustrating to have to wait. Apple has had months to engineer a Merom upgrade, same as every other manufacturer. And to continue to sell MBP's for the same top-shelf price, using "old" technology Yonahs, is unacceptable. Apple should at least drop the price on Yonah MBP's, since they're paying less for them than before. The die-hard Mac crowd will just take it up the chute from Apple, as usual (and thank SJobs for the opportunity!), but the "switchers" that Apple keeps advertising for, will just shake their heads, and go buy a PC at CompUSA or Best Buy, having seen numerous ads on network TV about how "C2D is the fastest processor on the planet," and finding that they can't get one in an Apple.

Sad ...... :(

You know, ever since laptops with C2Ds started shipping, I haven't really seen any Mac vs. PC commercials. Tons of iPod commercials, and tons of C2D Intel commercials.

Especially with them releasing the new commercials on their website, normally they would also flood the TV with them.

I've seen a bunch of them in the last few days actually.

However... did just find this Acer which seems to have just about everything at a lower price =o

$1890 at http://www.cdwg.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1058092

All in a 1" thick, black, carbon fiber case

Seems like the only thing I could ask would be a Draft N wireless card (and OS X) But with that hard drive I could throw linux on there as well and be pretty happy.

Any good reason not to go for this one instead ? (Yea, I'm the potential switcher Apple has been pushing away with the delay)

Did you happen to check on availability? Web site just says "call for availability." Kind of sounds like they aren't rolling out the door yet either.

At least they know the meaning of shame.

PC: Yeah, but does the MacBook have the C2D yet?
Mac: No, but it's got this cool cord that goes *pffffft* if you trip over it.

:p
