What was the point in switching to intel if you're not gonna keep pace with the other PC companies. I'm also really unimpressed with the fact that apple hasn't re-designed anything in what seems like ages, the imac is the last thing that impressed me and that was ages ago before the intel swap.

Well I hope they don't mess around with the case too much (if at all) on the MB.
Last time they messed around with the case, I lost my FW800 port on the 15" (still bitter).

Besides, the case is brilliant...I love the keyboard, the mouse location, nearly every damn thing about it. If they can redesign the inside to give us a few extra features...cooler running temp, maybe an easily accessed HDD....I can see that. But please, don't mess around with the simple beauty of the overall case!

Does apple think by not changing the casing along with the swap to intel it's customers won't notice?? I want a Mac Pro not a G5!

You can get a Mac Pro (they're available and kick total a$$)...I don't understand where you took this rant.

They'd better be some re-design on the MBP to explain this wait or i'm gonna be really angry. I wish apple would try harder to keep it's loyal customers happy instead of chasing new ones so much.

Being "late to the dance" with C2D isn't winning over any "switchers," either. Although C2D isn't a revolutionary chip from CD, the appearance of being the _only_ computer manufacturer still using "old" technology. The only rational explanation is either: (1) major redesign, or (2) problems dealing with heat, or some other issue, with such a slim case design on a hot chip.

I'm getting tired of waiting, but I refuse to buy with an imminent chip upgrade, since I'll expect to use my new MBP for at least 3 years, during which time 64 bit may be important - and any other upgrades to graphics chip, DL-DVD burning (and FASTER than current measly 4x!), etc.

They redesigned the iBook to become a Macbook.

No apologies...we're all frustrated. This prolonged silence (and perceived inactivity) will do nothing to "chase" new customers though. It not only frustrates loyal Apple customers, but the longer it goes, the more new customers will stick with PeeCees. Or so it seems to me.

That said...I still feel like that Apple has proven themselves (since the re-onset of Steve Jobs) to be marketing geniuses. I *have* to believe that they know what they're doing--and why they are doing it--and are more aware then am I the ultimate effect on their bottom dollar. I think.

Most other manufactureres are also still selling Pentium-M and Core Duo products. Usually together with Core 2 Duo products, but it's not like the others were unusable or even unsellable from the moment the Core 2 Duo was announced.

One question though. What processor are they putting in their "top of the line/pro-level" notebooks?

well, the iMac update was announced at this time on setp 6th, so i'm guessing it won't be today :-/

if I buy one now i'll be happy and i can stop wasting my time waiting, on the other hand i'll probably kick myself when they eventually do upgrade. what to do..

I agree. Just have to be patient.

While we're waiting, just to let you know, after only 2 months the Mac Pro is on the SAVE refurb page already. Even more amazing is that all of the C2D iMacs are there after only one month.

24" 2.16GHz C2D iMac $1699
20" 2.16GHz C2D iMac $1299
17" 2.00GHz C2D iMac $1099

All have 4MB L2 shared cache

Well this is certainly history i dont think i can ever forget this. My beef is just the fact they've not announced it, it doesnt have to ship today just announce the darn thing. I mean they announced the iTV/Shuffle/Xserve waaay early, why not do the same for the MBP. Why, i just dont get it....why?!?

Screw this for a game of soldiers. After 3 and a half months of waiting I am gonna finally be a switcher and order myself a refurb 17" MBP. I dont mind so much not having the very latest and greatest if I have saved myself 200 quid - its when you buy something at full retail price and goes out of date immediately that it really stings.

I am crap at waiting for stuff and am impressed I have lasted so long!! Good luck to the rest of you, hope you arent still waiting in January :)

Apple Store Canada new refurbs

The refurb section of the apple Canada store now includes the 1.83ghz MBP whereas before there was only the 2.0ghz+ models (for like the past 3 weeks anyways). My question is are the 1.83 machines reliable? (didn't they get bumped up to 2.0ghz before they were even shipped) or being the very first MBPs built they will have the worst of the build problems (heat, noise, etc).

If they announce it today, would you still buy the current MBP? Probably not, so what are they do with the remaining stock?

Which is most likely exactly what they're thinking.

People are still sucking them up....they are GREAT machines!

As it's been stated many times before, we're the minority of Mac users, who feel they need C2D in their laptops (and some rightfully so).

What did they do with the remaining Xserve/Shuffle stocks and all other old stocks??, they surely got rid of them somehow and i dont think it was charity either.
