Wall Street hated it. Not sure why but that's how it goes. I thought they realized there would be no new hardware products being announced. :(

I wonder if the phone calling feature in Yosemite will work on other phones besides iphone.

Poor Dan Riccio. I think he was the only SVP who didn't get a shout out today.

At this point in time, "supplemented" would be a better description, although clearly they are hoping Swift catches on in a big way. Swift and Objective-C were stated to be interoperable and to be very easily intermixed.

I assume that ObjC will be phased out slowly? I can't imagine that iOS8 / OSX10.10 apps can be written in swift only? ObjC will still be supported for a while yet?

No reason to take away ObjC any time soon-- it is some new syntax and a new compiler front end.[/QUOTE]
Nobody is taking it away. For a fleeting moment I much hoped for C++ support, but there was Swift instead. I don't know what to make of it.... New languages are a learning curve.

But 1000x Kudos for the effort!

For the less demanding games, I can see OpenGL being used for compatibility. But don't forget the PlayStation uses OpenGL, while the Xbox uses DirectX, yet there are plenty of cross platform games available.

So I can see some developers using it for some of the more graphic intensive games.

Yes, but that's because if you use Maya or 3DS Max etc, they have built in DirectX and OpenGL support, you just choose the platform you want, plus Microsoft and Sony heavily support the devs, the dev develops the game on one platform and then transfers it over to the others.

Are games devs going to do the same thing for Apple? Can you do that with Metal or is it so different you can't transfer a game coded for Metal into one for Android? I don't know what graphics packages are used for the big name and budget iOS or Android games.

And how well will it play with the Unity engine or Marmalade engine, the Unreal engine? Plus Android and Windows devices can be very powerful and can easily match iOS graphics.

today was my D day...I postponed a new laptop for the last month until the WWDC hoping for a least something was coming with the MacBook Pros...nothing. Here I come Dell. too bad and very sad.

Wow... I'm blown away! This is really the best WWDC in years!:eek::eek:

Love all the features... Swift... EVERYTHING! I think this marks a change in Apple's culture. Allowing developers to CHANGE how iOS 8 works.. Interchangeable keyboards, apps can extend other apps, widgets in iOS, quick reply, and I can go on and on! Huge change, and changes that will change how many people look on iOS.

I think Apple just put a stop on all those things Android-guys are complaining about in iOS. We've got the iCloud Drive, widgets, extendability of the OS etc...

This....is.....huge!

Poor Dan Riccio. I think he was the only SVP who didn't get a shout out today.

His time to shine will be in the Fall.

So excited by this keynote. I think I'm finally going to jump over to OS X and soon enough upgrade my iPhone 4S. The best WWDC IMO since 07.

i wonder if 10.10 "Yosemite" will address the GPU-related Kernel Panics of my mid-2010 15" MBP w/ the Nvidia GT330m dGPU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am convinced it is a software issue unless someone is able to convince me otherwise.

Apple's official statement is that it is a latent manufacturing defect and that a small number of mid-2010 MBP's manufactured between April 2010 and Feb. 2011 are affected.

The date stated, BTW, is the entire time this model MBP was available before being replaced by the 2011 model.

I'm wary that it is a hardware issue b/c Apple won't state an exact number. For example, a car manufacturer if there is a recall will state xxxx number of Ford Focus' are being recalled.

I think Apple is just hoping that most people will ignore the KP's which are random and non-replicable if users of these model MBP's are not using Pro Apps, like FCPX, Motion 5, Garageband, etc.... and are just using them to browse the web. A KP of causal use will usually enable the user to continue what he or she is doing after the computer reboots and will not face another KP, if one is lucky, for a while and in a random way. I have been able to use my MBP for example without the KP because I no longer touch FCP X or Motion 5 which instantly causes my computer to KP and is replicable. Thus, these programs are unusable for me. But, I can browse the web, type in this forum on this computer and whine about it and I even saw the WWDC live event earlier today.

And boy was it a snoozer.

"Yosemite Shammymeti"

I think Apple would like for ppl like me with this affected computer to either go away, die, or get a new one of their compters.

you know what. FU!!!!

PS--I am willing to bet $20 that Mid-2010 MBP's will not be supported!

Good Keynote

The changes in OS X 10.10 and iOS 8 look nice. The interoperability between iOS and OS X is long overdue, and should reinforce the idea that OS X isn't going away. Rather than try to create an OS for all types of devices, or trying to create a be-all, end-all device, Apple wants us to buy more devices, but wants to make working with each of those devices easier and more consistent.

I'm looking forward to the beta for OS X 10.10.

Nope being factful, say you ran gameloft, how would YOU moderate your resources to make a game on an Apple exclusive graphics platform, look at the costs involved, and then see if you're also willing to make your game on Android and Windows Mobile, the platforms that use graphics standards everyone knows and uses?
That's what Apple has done.

And then to throw in a new programming language too. And that same company will have to have it's staff retrained in a new non standard code. I don't program at all but I do know C+ etc is a very big and heavily used standard.

Regardless of "marketshare" 75% or more of your revenue comes from iOS. Pioritizing seems easy. Particularly since all of the major engines are already on board.

Did anyone catch device compatibility for OS X?

I saw it for iOS - but nothing for Yosemite?

On the Apple website, they say to sign up for the developer preview you must be running Mavericks.

So maybe all computers that can run Mavericks can get it?

The most impressive thing about Apple is just how insanely organised they are.

Their devices, services and ecosystem integrate and communicate with each other seamlessly. That's super hard to achieve and very impressive.

It can of course be replicated to a much more advanced and better degree with Windows and Android by an experienced user, but for an average user that does not want to touch anything and wants everything set up and decided for them so it "just works", this makes it very convenient.

I do the same, if apple does something cool I say so, if they do something dumb I say so.

What I dont do is register on forums for products I dont use just to tell people how much better the one I use is. Thats called not having a life.
I totally agree with you on that. I prefer Android over iOS, maybe it'll change in a future release or when I'll be bored of Android. Everyone has different taste and trying to convince them to change them over a forum is totally useless.
Just don't think all Android user are the same, just like all the Apple users aren't iSheep praising everything they do, nicely standing in line to buy the new stuff ;)

This WWDC was great. No hardware announcements but in terms of software, I'm very happy.

The thing that completely made me happy was the fact that I can be on my Mac and not having to go find my iPhone to reply to text messages and pick up calls. It's a feature that I always wanted. I cannot imagine myself buying an Android phone anymore.

Though for some reason, I believe the Apple TV will become a next gen console to compete with PS4 and Xbox One. An A7 chip on an Apple TV is good enough to play console like games.

I'm interested in this new programming language that they announced called Swift, but is this language beginner friendly or would I have to know other code languages to use it? Would be nice if Apple had a beginners guide to using the Swift language.

One thing I did not grasp. I take a phone on an iPhone or iPad and saves to the cloud (my original)

I then edit it in some way and instand the edits and new version of the image is on all devices.

What happened to my original image?

Well I got nothing of what i was hoping for and yet I am pretty excited about what was presented. It's strange becasue they make no money on what was presented and it cost me nothing to get it all. Yet I really hoped for some hardware anouncements that would really build momentum. Theydid a great presentation and it looks like it will be awesome when it come out 6 months from now (although I am disapointed with no Multi-window support on iOS).
