They are built on the same cocoa runtime and are completely interoperable. You can even mix and match swift and ObjC code in an app.

So, no, ObjC is not being "replaced" any time soon.

OK - thanks. I didn't see that portion of the WWDC - went on for too long - just followed text commentary

So the developer has a choice - objc or swift - or both.

Things they copied from Android:

Keyboard
Hey, Siri (OK Google)
Responding to texts in notifications (can do this on the LGG2)
Videos previews in the App Store
Photos/videos on the Cloud (except it's free on Google)

Am I missing any more?

Also, still no WIDGETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, no, you missed widgets. iOS has widgets now.

Awesome, just so much more than I expected. It's been a while I had been impressed like this. Can hardly believe my second gen iPad that was my first apple purchase ever that originally came out with iOS4 will get it's forth OS. I think it'll became the longest supported product made by Apple what a purchase that was :).

Can't wait for Yosemite as well, looks like an awesome update as well. Well done Apple, looking forward for all that wonderful new software to be available to everyone this fall!

So, which mac models will be supported in 10.10. Was that mentioned, I missed a few minutes at the beginning.

Or, better question, which ones not anymore?

So you complain they copy Android, then complain that they haven't copied Android? Maybe time to take your pills lol

Dude don't trip, cuz the one's that are complaining and hating KNOW this was a not only a great keynote but quite an amazingly great array of features and symmetry between the Mac and iOS...plus the addition to support more 3rd party applications. Anybody denying this was a great keynote is just flaming the forum. Ignore them.

you know me, I'm usually pragmatic and critical of everything. (i'm not against apple's products in any ways, I just like being critical of EVERYTHING).

But I actually am quite impressed by today's keynote.

There was a lot of meat here. Its questionable whether its' all good. i have quite a few questions about WHY certain directions were done, or why certain things were allowed.

But I dont think anyone in their right minds can deny that Apple actually put a lot of substance into todays presentation. A lot of good new to apple features.

Again, time will tell if it's for the better or not. But its going to take quite a few days /weeks before we can really delve deep into all the stuff announced today.

Nice to see Apple exploring all sorts of new ways to implement technology. What is not nice is the lackluster concern on their part for some of the applications they offer and of course items like the Mac Mini.

At the end of the day - we see Apple with the Henry Ford mentality - you can have any colour you want ... as long as it is black.

Sigh

Taking a wild guess... Apple will hold up an event to introduce the new Apple TV and new Mac hardware as well in the coming months.

Everyone knows software makes the hardware, so that's why this was the most exciting WWDC in years.

I am an android user for ~ a year. I switched from my Blackberry since I wanted something fresh and recently started developing for that platform. I also use an iMac and develops iOS apps on my iPod.

I do criticize Apple a lot, when they do stupid stuff, just like I make fun of Samsung when they're blatantly copying or rushing products out for the sake of it. Now, it doesn't mean I can't recognize when Apple does something good like this WWDC ;) Most of their features makes the hamsters in my developer brain runs in their wheels like crazy.

I do the same, if apple does something cool I say so, if they do something dumb I say so.

What I dont do is register on forums for products I dont use just to tell people how much better the one I use is. Thats called not having a life.

a lot of great stuff today. Continuity will sell even more hardware to an already loyal customer base. I don't have a mac but I want one now, jeez.

8 looks like it's improved a lot. Sure, it's got stuff from other OS' but let's not forget that most of these "android" features Apple "stole" aren't built into the OS itself. quick reply is a cynaogen mod feature.

The Samsung wages must be good, you guys are in full force today.

My work phone is Android, never bought anything but Apple myself - so before you start trolling around, get yourself together. The presentation showed NOTHING that will move Apple into a new era of technological advancement. There was not one shred of new feature that makes Apple better than any competition. Stop being a fanboy, and be a sensible consumer using brain over "faith".

That seems to be the aim here, with a no doubt Apple exclusive brand new graphics platform too, Metal..

Trouble is, companies like money and profit from sales, and Androids market share is FAR too big to ignore so we will see how this goes, but I won't be surprised if Metal vanishes in a couple of years.
For the less demanding games, I can see OpenGL being used for compatibility. But don't forget the PlayStation uses OpenGL, while the Xbox uses DirectX, yet there are plenty of cross platform games available.

It just might mean that for the graphically demanding games or for those Apple gives some incentives to, the Devs will do a Metal instead of OpenGL version of their game. AMD is currently has a similar technology (Mantle) on the PC and while there isn't massive support for it yet, most of the major engines seem to be onboard.

Sadly all that auto-tethering demo'd will be blocked from us unlimited plan AT&T customers rocking since '08

I couldn't watch since I'm at work...but the live feed by MacRumors had me reading things I was impressed with.

I can't wait to get these new updates!

This is one of the times I'm actually more excited about what I can do on the Mac just because of the new UI enhancements and the ability to make phone calls and keep my texts inline with my phone. They didn't mention if you can do SMS texts from the Mac but I'm sure you can if you can make calls.
