It was quite clear to me. Some don’t get how “compromise” sometimes works in marriage. You may have missed my joke.
This is what i been doing. Using the app on the phone, or ipad. It just seems really easy to do. By pulling down the control center. And bringing up the remote app from there.I never use the physical remote. I use the remote app on my phone. It doesn’t have volume controls. I use my TV remote for that.
Seems like this is only IR control. That’s a deal breaker for me since my AppleTV is hidden behind my television.
The Apple TV remote is honestly the worst invention Apple invented. Seriously bad user experience design. Too much overthinking, not enough practicality.
Hey Apple: Buttons were invented for a reason. USE THEM.
I wish Griffin hadn’t discontinued the SurvivorPlay case for the Siri Remote. It fits better and feels better than any of the silicone cases form Amazon. Heck, if someone started manufacturing exact clones, I’d buy a couple more.I don't mind the Apple TV remote, though I put a silicone case on it so I could tell the orientation without looking.
This. I like that I can wander around the corner into the kitchen for a few minutes, holding the remote, and tweak the volume as needed. Couldn’t do that with IR.Yea, this would be a deal breaker. The bluetooth aspect is what makes any of the hundreds of generic programmable IR remotes non-starters for me.
Good tip. Works with my setup. 🙂FYI, if your ATV/TV/AVR are all hooked up and working with ARC (i.e., where the remote can control the volume "through" the Apple TV), then, if you're using the iPhone Remote app, the phone volume controls will actually control the ATV volume
Oops, this was already covered:
Really? I would be far more confident dropping the Siri Remote that some cheap plastic thing. Why in the world does someone have to like both? That makes zero sense.
Not poo-pooing on others experiences just a take on my own... but I absolutely love the Apple TV remote, it has spoiled me for all other remotes. My only complaint is its fragility... which is a pretty big complaint. You should be able to drop any remote from a meter at least and not even give a second thought about if it will be OK. Not so with the Apple remote, it bothers me a little that I have to be careful not to dop it.
This remote uses IR so Apple isn’t going to block it (it couldn’t even know what device is sending the code). Blocking IR entirely would break all kinds of stuff. Apple clearly has no interest in that.Until Apple locks out 3rd party remotes and also releases a new remote for gen 6 Apple TV Pro.
The Apple Watch doesn't have a Siri button, either. Wish it did.
I think that the Remote app on the iPhone and iPad are as frustrating as the actual remote.
The Appletv remote is the greatest ever. Simple, easy to operate, gets it done. I hate those legacy remotes with all the buttons that you can't see in the dark, and practically have to study just to find a function. It is nice that you can use a conventional remote with AppleTV, I guess, for those who don't like the easy to use one
The Apple TV remote is perhaps the best example I can think of as far as Apple choosing form over function. It really is trash and I hope they revamp it with the next revision of ATV.

So... I take it you’re a fan of the MBP Touchbar as well?
Exactly! It's why I got rid of my computer keyboard and only use a touchpad. Also, I always stare at my Apple TV remote!Exactly why the iPhone is a failure among real smartphone users and why we stick to our Blackberries—with physical keyboards!!!
long press on the home button takes me to home on mine. apple tv 4k. also works on my non 4k apple tv. im on the latest OS. but it never didn't work for me..You can use the iPhone volume buttons while the Apple TV remote app is open to change volume.
What I generally don't get, though, is why people don't just use their TV remotes and HDMI CEC. Since tvOS 13, the Apple TV will even wake up when receiving an HDMI CEC source selection signal. The only thing that no longer works (it did in tvOS 12) is long button presses, so you can't bring up the home menu (with user change and suspend options) by long pressing home on the TV remote.

Actually press and hold the Digital Crown to summon Siri. This can be turned on in the settings. The Apple Watch doesn't have a Siri button, either. Wish it did.
