The movie itself isn't really laugh-out-loud funny; the humor is in the completely absurd and inaccurate retelling of Steve's life. If someone were to describe a scene-by-scene plot synopsis of the film, it's sound freakin' hilarious.

Justin made all that money from apple doing those iPod spots and does this to his old boss! Was not funny at all. What were they trying to do.
The bad part is that People are going to thing this is true. I see a lawsuit.

Yeah, because ANY judge would entertain a lawsuit for defamation against a company called funnyordie.

Too many people that know nothing about law throw around predictions of lawsuits.

These preview pictures made me cringe. Wozniak was never fat in his younger years, more like a stout guy. Not fat.

gut busting funny in some parts. blatantly inaccurate....because its supposed to be. A good time.

EXACTLY my feelings.

And Justin Long did a great job.

It's like they took all the parts of Apple history and put it in a blender and served it.
Just plain fun, just as intended.

I LOLed when I saw the guy playing Woz. Hilarious.

Some of the comments here...you people all know this is a comedy, right? It's not supposed to be an accurate real life depiction, it's supposed to make people laugh.

No, I want to believe that they do. I think that this style of humor simply isn't what the average MacRumors forum member considers funny.

What makes you think that the Funny or Die website is actually targeting tech-savvy MR members for their audience? For the most part, the majority of MR veteran members take technology seriously (some of them work in the technology/IT industries).

This movie is not taking technology seriously at all. In fact, this movie is clearly taking liberties at MAKING FUN of and stereotyping all nerds and computer geeks as an awkward anti-social bunch. Let's hope the average MR member has a thick skin before watching this.

Personally I think it's quite entertaining in some segments, tho 80 minutes is a bit long for something like this.

Its funny, but in a "clever-parody-of-films-like-"the-social-network" type way rather than a "100-laugh-out-louds-per-minute" type way

Which is the point.they aren't trying to make a real biopic here. They are making fun of this whole notion of making biopics etc. especially the rush to launch them before the subject is cold in his grave such as was the case with Steve.

Does anybody think that Steve Jobs had any role in directing the actual Mac v. PC commercials? Could there be a thread of truth to that scene where he's telling Justin what to do?

Of course he didn't.he likely didn't design them or write them. An ad agency did all the work and all Steve may have done was approve the idea and the final version, which is standard for clients to do.

If I may be so bold...I do not think the point is to critique how factual this is, or even how funny the individual jokes are; I think "the joke" is to imagine if after all of the waiting, you went to see one of the "real" Jobs biopics (Kutcher's or Sorkin's), and it ended up being this. And, frankly, that would be hilarious. Awesome job!

It goes further than that. They are mocking the whole genre of the biopic and how they are more often than not way off the mark. 21 was about a bunch of mostly white kids takingVegas but the real team were all Asians. Social Network has been blasted for several major inaccuracies not to mention playing Mark as some kind of autistic when folks said he wasn't, he was just as ass. Biopics are generally never accurate to the truth. Heck Woz is on record saying Jobs is way off the truth.

THAT is what this movie is mocking. The whole notion of 'based on the truth'

----------

We've seen actual, belly laughing funny Jobs & Apple parody in the past. This is just a B movie disguised as parody because it's so bad and unfunny. Really, it's just an 80 min link bait.

And do you really think Jobs is anything more than some no names using the popularity of Steve Jobs to make a name for themselves. Get their foot in the door. If their movie hasn't been about Steve it wouldn't have been guaranteed to show at Sundance, wouldn't have gotten the press that it did, wouldn't have gotten the big name actors it did likely 'off quote' (ie under their standard pay demands) and so on. Even if it releases straight to DVD in the end, they got serious press for it which is likely the main thing they were going off.

Which is something us folks in the industry realize, just as we realized they were pushing to get it done first so it wouldn't be buried by the 'official' movie etc. THAT is part of the jokes with this FoD movie. They rushed to finish it and be first. Even the delay in the release may have been planned all along as another joke but then because more real with the Boston incident which has been listed as a cause for the bump

----------

He's likely very hungry for work. It's common for actors to be turned away from new work because they're to recognizable as the spokesperson for another company. Unfortunately, he'll forever be known as that 'Apple Guy'.

If Longs whole career was commercials you might be correct. But it's not. He's had several movie and tv gigs including a standing job as the voice of Alvin. He's doing just fine

A part of me wants to take the movie and compare it to all the outrageous stories that have gone around about Steve and Apple over the years that proved to be basically BS to see how they match up. Sometime tells me they sourced a long of their stuff from that sort of thing. Not unlike how the 'I'm a PC' ads came from common complaints found around the Internet

blah

I was looking forward to this movie. I thought it could be irreverant, funny, yet pay homage. It's just... dumb. It's not funny. It's about as funny as Will Ferrell, and he just makes me roll my eyes.

Half way through I said, okay, I get it, that's enough.

If I wanted to watch something really, really, really, really, really DUMB with an occasional moment where I almost chuckle... I'd watch SNL.

The Wozniak character it's obviously created by a Will Ferrell humor syrup magic crap potion. It was insulting, unfair and out of the line. The way Will Ferrell make successful movies. This time however the Woz character was ridicule at max and it is sad that the only living person who founded Apple will be watching this crap and think "What a bunch of *******s those Funny or Die guys are"

Well, this is 79 minutes of my life I'm not getting back.
Terrible, truly terrible, and I'm not even bothering to say my arguments why, because this movie doesn't deserve any more of my time.
But then, I did sit through all of it and it will surely spark some discussion (well, it already has), and it's an indie movie made just for the heck of it and for fun, so it's not like we weren't warned. I thank the creators for the effort and the will to present the story in a totally new light.
But still, it's baaaaad. And not even funny at all.

I'm not so sure that you are right. I remember plenty of parts of the Steve Jobs biography where he had a direct hand in the marketing. Example: 1984 commercial ... he was there for the filming and wanted it while others did not. Other example: his obsession with the logo and marketing scheme of nEXT computers.

I would bet a large amount that he'll find it funnier than many here. By all reports Woz DOES have a sense of humor.

It's a low budget SNL / Mad TV type of sketch biography filmed in studio-like settings. The facts of Steve Jobs life are deliberately inaccurate or twisted around (e.g. I got a kick out of Steve Jobs and Melinda Gates having an affair). It's a spoof / parody which contain both hit and miss moments. Within its uneveness, I found some bits quite hilarious.

Overall, it's a little tedious. Might have been better at a 1 hour run time.

Sad...

Sad to say, I forced myself to watched to whole thing. I felt iCheated.

I agree with the general feeling is not worth a 5min accel short reel.

Good luck if you intent to go for it.
