I was planning to preorder right away. But I'm not seeing an unlocked version. I might have to get the xs to get it unlocked

The only thing one can’t know from reading reviews of the XS and 8+ is how you will like the colors. I’m torn between black, white and red and the decision is getting more difficult by the day.

You should be able to preorder any of the other carrier models. They are all unlocked if you pay full price and they all have the same radios. Also it looks like you don’t need to enter carrier account info, at least based on the XS.

Well, I preordered a white 256 Gb XR, hoping that the screen will be as flicker free as their previous LCD phones. Last year I owned an iPhone X for 10 days before returning it with heavy heart. The OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous, and I wish I could have used it, but alas, Apple chose to implement a ridiculously low 240 Hz pulse width modulation frequency on their OLED screens, which triggers eyestrain and headaches in some users. You would think that a company like Apple would be able to see beyond the dollar sign and supply the best of the best, but in this case, they did not. Again, if you don't have problems with OLED flickering, then the OLED is the way to go. The clarity, the colours, the intensity of the contrast... there is no comparison. For me, it's a no go. Let's hope the XR will be the answer for me.
