I tried today but they were out of the particular gift cards and refused to put it on a regular Target gift card. We also asked if we could just apply the $200 credit to a new ipad and they said no. So they said we have to come back tomorrow when they get more gift cards in.

They have special cards that are only supposed to be accepted in electronics. Although I had no issue using one to buy several iTunes gift cards at the main registers. Had I not asked they likely wouldn't have known it was different.

so I did the target trade in back on tuesday and they told me I had to buy a another iPad but I had 30 days to return it and they would refund the money to the gift card. So I bought a 1st gen mini and hope that in 30 days the retina mini comes out so that I can exchange it. What are the chances that target get the retina mini on launch day ?

I don't believe that's the intent. They are special cards they use for trade-ins, but it simply says on the back that they are good for goods and services at any Target or the online store. It doesn't say anything that would limit to electronics, and you can bet that's not a lawyer's oversight.

Goodbye iPad 1. You served me well for a number of years, but alas there came a point where you were just too old and slow to be useful anymore.

I went to 2 targets with my ipad 1. They would only give gift card if I bought new ipad right then and there. Those that got gift card, lucky dogs!

Amen.

I had a lot of fun with mine, but all good things must end.

At least they HAVE iPad Airs. I probably would have bought one if they had some in stock in my AO, instead of old minis and iPad 4's.

Traded my iPad for the $200 and asked about phones.... only offered $175 for my wife's pristine 16g unlocked 5 I laughed at him.... literally.

Was my thinking too. It still worked great, battery life was still awesome, screen and case were great.... maybe a few dings in the case here and there.

$200 is way more than I expected to get for it lol. My daughter used that most and she wants an iPod touch but I'll probably end up getting her an miPad ret instead.

Trade in offers are always laughable. That's why this was such a notable deal.
