Not really. Where did Apple's amazing notification system come from? Who forced them to add multitasking? Android is always ahead of iOS technology and feature :)wise, I just got fed up with the hardware quality and lack of stability, so I went to iOS.

This is partially true. Android has great ideas that never get fully perfected-this is becuase they don't have a strong leader demanding things work right.

That can now be said about Apple too with all due respect to Tim, Phil, Scott, and Jony. Forstall might be a mini-Steve Jobs, but he might not have that clear vision like SJ.

Samsung and others had the direct message access from the lock screen, they just never got it to work smoothly. It was always really laggy. One of the reasons I left Android... The only one I ever had that was smooth was the SGSII one that had been ported to some SGS ROM.

It's called competition guys. Yes I ADMIT I'm an Apple Fanboy, but I'm really happy to see that Android is finally growing up. In the past I always bashed Android of how stupid it is, but now it's all grown up and ready to fight the competition :)

This and the Galaxy Note tempt me so much... I've had 4 bad experiences with Android though. You'd think I'd learn, wouldn't you?

It's happened to couple times. The last android device that I put to use was the first nexus. It was pretty cool, for the first couple days. After about a week I got sick of the lag and freezing etc. now it looks like they've worked a bit more kinks, I'm still hearing about lagging and what not though so I'll hold off. I know they're next update will probably be much better.

Nexus One on Gingerbread 2.3.6 is actually pretty slick. I tried comparing my iPhone 4 vs Nexus One the other day in browser speed and each one took turns beating each other nomore than 1-2 seconds. They were released about 6 months apart last year. What was weird is when I was flicking my thumb up and down, the Nexus One had a more rubber band effect and kept continuing up and down the screen. My iP4 was not like this. And this was on a mobile site! When I was opening the same games, the differences were fairly negligible. Sometimes the iP4 won and sometimes the N1 won. But still less than 3 seconds.

Also, try not to clutter any Android phone with widgets and turn off live wallpaper effects. The N1 had a weak GPU. And there are apps like QuickPic that is far better than the stock Gallery and UberMusic (Metro UI Skin) that improves the experience. But yeah, Android does have its share of force closes, lag, and whatnot. And while people diss the Android version of apps of being poorly made, at least Android has those apps. Windows Phone doesn't always have it and sometimes the app can be worse than either two. And the WP Marketplace still charges higher.

Only things that annoys me with the Nexus One is the lack of internal memory (which is why we won't get ICS) and the Synaptic touchscreen where it can only read nomore than two fingerprint inputs. Crap for multi-touch games. The screen would go haywire sometimes which can get fixed by turning the screen off. I already have the apps to avoid that power button too. And Android just plain SUCKS with battery. Same with WP7. But I guess when you have two platforms fetching things in the background, that is the price you pay. But when it comes to Adobe Flash (for xHamster =) and getting FREE apps whether pirated or not, Android is it. And there times when I just want to quickly glance at the info using a widget without always having to go to open an app.

Android is like the stuttering cousin of iOS and less prettier. But at the same time, she lets you do ANYTHING you want with her and she can grow on you with enough patience. She can be OPEN like that. And for some people, they can't learn their lesson and sometimes don't mind coming back to her no matter how many times she can break your heart. While iOS is that perfect wifey, the so-called "perfect marriage" can get stale. The mistress gives it a more DYNAMIC lifestyle even if the relationship has never been the most stable. If iOS is for novice users, Android really is on another level testing your intelligence and patience.

I am a MULTI-platform user who is planning to live in a country that can routinely steal cell phones and are mostly on prepaid, so I need to have different phones just in case. I can already see each platform have their strengths and weaknesses. It always boils down to personal preferences and nothing more. iOS for excellent all-around uses, Android for tinkerers and pirates, and WP for social media.

android better software than iOS? is he including malware?

don't these threads deserve a spot on other sections? aren't we in the iPhone ONLY area?

the guys do realize that the best way to get rid of this thread is to not reply at all right? By replying, you are bumping the thread up and keeping it on the first page whereas if you didn't it would be buried by the forum's algorithm quicker.

But you relentlessly feel the need to keep it alive, and embarrass yourselves.

I am all for Google, but what's up the the curved back and the color. The design is just not as elegant as iPhone, I think somehow Samsung ruined the phone on its exterior design, they are good, but just can't impress me enough.

They should stick with supplying Apple with displays.

I think the Nexus One still had the best design.

Definitely a matter of opinion. I like the subtle curve. I also like that the front is all one blacked out piece with nothing else on it. Conversely, I find the iphone's design to be rather archaic. It has no ergonomic design, the amount of bezel on the device is pretty large for how small the screen is. Let's be honest the bezel on the iphone accounts for almost half of the front of the phone! Then there's the physical button. I'm sorry but I find that button to be ugly. They should have gone capacitive a long time ago. All in all, I just can't say that a phone that does not efficiently utilize it's real estate (too much bezel) and has one big physical button in the middle is elegant. Maybe a few years ago it could have been considered that, but at this particular juncture, I'd have to say the design is a bit archaic.

From the second review:

Do I “love” Ice Cream Sandwich? No. Love is a big word that I reserve for living creatures. But after spending a good amount of time with the new OS, I look at my iPhone 4S and feel jealous that I can’t tap into all of the new Android fun.

Sums it up for me. Can't wait to get ICS in my SGS2.

Wrap-up

Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period.

I'm still undecided on the thing as I worry for its longevity spec wise but I am impressed with some of the reviews. It is a shame about that camera tho.

I just got one today and I got to say its some piece of kit. Still not sure about the size - I have an SG2 and i thought that was about the biggest phone I would want - the nexus is about the same width but a little longer. My wife and daughter both have iphones and side by side the iphone looks tiny.

ICS is simply great. Its slick, its smooth, its well thought out and is a huge stop up from Android 3.4. No matter what you think Google have done a good job on the OS and it shows.

Its a slight curve that you wont notice when using the screen. Probably helps in keeping your face off of the middle of it when talking. And i dont think Samsung is supplying the displays for the iPhone. They kept the best for themselves ;)
