It's happened to couple times. The last android device that I put to use was the first nexus. It was pretty cool, for the first couple days. After about a week I got sick of the lag and freezing etc. now it looks like they've worked a bit more kinks, I'm still hearing about lagging and what not though so I'll hold off. I know they're next update will probably be much better.
Nexus One on Gingerbread 2.3.6 is actually pretty slick. I tried comparing my iPhone 4 vs Nexus One the other day in browser speed and each one took turns beating each other nomore than 1-2 seconds. They were released about 6 months apart last year. What was weird is when I was flicking my thumb up and down, the Nexus One had a more rubber band effect and kept continuing up and down the screen. My iP4 was not like this. And this was on a mobile site! When I was opening the same games, the differences were fairly negligible. Sometimes the iP4 won and sometimes the N1 won. But still less than 3 seconds.
Also, try not to clutter any Android phone with widgets and turn off live wallpaper effects. The N1 had a weak GPU. And there are apps like QuickPic that is far better than the stock Gallery and UberMusic (Metro UI Skin) that improves the experience. But yeah, Android does have its share of force closes, lag, and whatnot. And while people diss the Android version of apps of being poorly made, at least Android has those apps. Windows Phone doesn't always have it and sometimes the app can be worse than either two. And the WP Marketplace still charges higher.
Only things that annoys me with the Nexus One is the lack of internal memory (which is why we won't get ICS) and the Synaptic touchscreen where it can only read nomore than two fingerprint inputs. Crap for multi-touch games. The screen would go haywire sometimes which can get fixed by turning the screen off. I already have the apps to avoid that power button too. And Android just plain SUCKS with battery. Same with WP7. But I guess when you have two platforms fetching things in the background, that is the price you pay. But when it comes to Adobe Flash (for xHamster =) and getting FREE apps whether pirated or not, Android is it. And there times when I just want to quickly glance at the info using a widget without always having to go to open an app.
Android is like the stuttering cousin of iOS and less prettier. But at the same time, she lets you do ANYTHING you want with her and she can grow on you with enough patience. She can be OPEN like that. And for some people, they can't learn their lesson and sometimes don't mind coming back to her no matter how many times she can break your heart. While iOS is that perfect wifey, the so-called "perfect marriage" can get stale. The mistress gives it a more DYNAMIC lifestyle even if the relationship has never been the most stable. If iOS is for novice users, Android really is on another level testing your intelligence and patience.
I am a MULTI-platform user who is planning to live in a country that can routinely steal cell phones and are mostly on prepaid, so I need to have different phones just in case. I can already see each platform have their strengths and weaknesses. It always boils down to personal preferences and nothing more. iOS for excellent all-around uses, Android for tinkerers and pirates, and WP for social media.
