I agree - I think Samsung did themselves a disservice. Instead of being able to claim they were first, they're going to drive people to the iWatch (provided Apple can do it right).
Which in turn will also turn some of the tide in the smartphone battle as well given how the smart watches are accessories that interact. An iWatch that does awesome things will make people want it and in turn an iPhone so they can use it.
Looking forward to this fall's announcements - but 2014 is going to be a MASSIVE year for Apple. Larger iPhones, iWatches, iTVs, provider deals etc....

USA Today posted it was compatible with the GS4 as well.....but that's the only place I've seen that.
Glad they moved the speaker from the back to the bottom. It's no HTC One but it's an improvement.
During the showing they said it will work with the whole galaxy line up.
Showed even a gs3 in the picture and said the software update is coming in october
Only works with Android 4.3 right now due to BT 4.0 compatibility. GS4 might need to wait for 4.3 update, probably at the end of the year.
Woah, leather back is standard? I wonder if this is a "quick response" of sorts to the backlash of their cheap plastic. (I've heard rumors too that the GS5 will be when they finally get rid of the plastic).
I actually think the Gear watch turned out better looking than I was expecting.
However, I have zero interest in a watch and little interest in the Note III. It's just not for me.

Yeah, I've found myself thinking more and more often lately that with such a big phone as the Note series, they ought to be able to put some kick ass speakers in there like HTC managed to. A Note 3 with a kickstand case would even become like a little boombox

None of these things are confirmed. Not to mention, where will the competition be by next year?
Having said that, I am definitely curious as to what they'll do with the iPhone next year.

Of course they aren't confirmed! They are all in the mix though and isn't it MORE exciting to speculate and wonder?
The iWatch is happening - Samsung's release of the Gear is proof enough regardless Apple has been hiring non-stop for watch related positions.
I think each of these devices I mentioned ARE almost certainties - though the timing is unknown. 2014 will be the year for these, except maybe for the iTV.

Lighter, thinner, new leather back (yet still removable). Pretty sweet. This'll be a nice upgrade/update for Note users.

This will most likely be my next phone unless someone releases something that can top it.

It's a little tacky, no doubt, but something about it looks retro. Along with the ridges on the side, something about it reminds me of the 70's, 80's. I kind of dig it.
I don't know if that's what they're going for, and I also suspect this was a sort of "quick response" to avoid more backlash on "cheap plastic," so I'm not saying this is the solution. But it is a surprise, and a pleasant one, IMO. I was fully expecting a plain ol' plastic update with better innards and larger screen for the Note III.
Either way, I want to reiterate, I have no interest in getting this device, anyway. Just sharing my response/opinions.

Perhaps they should also adopt Apple's now-gone skeuomorphic designs. Plenty of people complain about the look of TouchWiz. Why not add leather to the hardware AND software

I think what they're aiming for is a more "notebook" feel, also with the little ridges on the sides to resemble pages. That they're offering pink as one of their three base colors also speaks to that effect maybe.
