I love my Note III. I'd sworn that it wasn't worth moving from the Note II. I was wrong and I haven't let this beast out of my sight since.

My only qualm is Knox... From a modders point if view that is.

OK, not sure if the problem was addressed in the pages after I posted this other than the xda suggestion, but I was finally able to fix this problem.

For anyone else that is bothered by the Samsung voice, go to the playstore and search for "Google text to speech". It should be the first app to pop up, install it, then go to settings>device>accessibility>text-to-speech options and select "Google text to speech engine" as your default and say goodbye to the Samsung lady.

It just changes the s voice to the google voice right? Not changes the s voice app to the google voice search app?

You might be right but the Note does fluctuate more sporadically whereas the 5s seems to have a bit more stability. For some reason I've always found android devices to have weaker radios than the iPhone. HTC was one of the worst culprits.

Even Motorola phones?

I've been lurking this thread and the entire "Alternatives to iOS..." subthread. I've had the iphone 5, 4s and started out with the 3GS and before that the Treo 650 was my favorite smartphone of them all. I loved Palm and webOS but couldn't deal with such a small screen and I was already locked to iOS. I finally took a dive to Android and I am really liking the freedom and kind of reminds me of my Palm days. I spent almost all day tweaking my phone and screen. It wasn't a chore, I enjoy the options. I haven't found perfect replacements to some Japanese apps but I prefer using it so much more than my old iPhone.

And that lovely huge screen, I can't go small after this phone.

I’m having an issue with Waze and streaming music.

When I have music streaming to my car radio with Bluetooth, the directional voice prompts from waze doesn’t work. The music would cut out, but the prompt doesn’t get thru to the radio. After a little bit the music resumes. When I have the music off, the voice prompts get thru to the radio just fine.

I tried to check the box in waze to use the phone speaker for sound but that doesn’t work either.

Anybody experienced this or know of a fix?

thanks

So I got a big update OTA yesterday meaning I am now on the very latest software. ...

That being said.... can't for the life of me see what changes are made.

Hmm.... you've got something below your Knox security status.

I'm on the fence guys!!! I want to make the jump to the note3 but not sure... I'm coming from the iP5S. Do any of you that made the switch miss these features:

1. iMessage
There are many alternatives such as Hangouts and WhatsApp.

2. Seamless sync with mac
I found syncing with OS X using Google services to be more reliable than iCloud, but it doesn't work with many Apple apps directly.

3. Smoothness/fluidity of apps- FB, Instagram, Sbux app, and games.
Modern Android is generally more fluid and nicer than iOS 7.

4. The iOS Email app
It is nothing special, there are many, many options on Android.

5. Bluetooth audio with car stereo shows song/album info and I'm able to skip songs with stereo controls (don't know if its possible on note 3)
My experience has shown that is is somewhat wacky on both platforms.

6. Camera
Modern Android flagships are as good in that respect as the 5S.

Help me make up my mind!!! I'm dying to have a bigger screen. I'm on verizon and I've heard some people complain about garbbled poor call quality and poor camera performance. Thanks for the help! I'm probably going to best buy to pull the trigger just having second thoughts.....
The only advantage I see to iOS now is iLife+iWork.

GN3 Newbie!

Will be picking up my new GN3 today.

I'm not too hot on techie stuff so all this talk of "flashing with ROM's" and launchers means nothing to me...

I have read though that there is a lot of 'bloatware' installed as standard, some of which I guess will be using battery power/RAM etc....

What would people recommend I get rid of/switch off and how best to do?

I am really only buying this device to view films on from my work desk and using for rare phone calls/email/text.....from my point of view the fewer apps and gizmos on it the better!

You'll have the option to turn them off but you won't be able to remove them. I wouldn't worry too much about that. It has more than ample RAM (3GB) to run multiple process strings. It also has a decent amount of internal space (32GB) with an option of up to 64GB for the micro SD.

Honestly, this phone doesn't need much in the way of modding. It comes stock with a powerhouse that covers a lot of bases.

My one, and only, qualm is the slightly loose home button. It has a lot more fluidity and give than I'm used to.

Edit: LTE and signal switching will be the biggest battery killer. That and your screen being on.

Thanks for that....have to say I am LOVING this new device!...was very hesitant leaving iPhone after having owned them all up to this point but am having no regrets right now.

Have set up my Apple email with no problems and love typing on the bigger screen. Got a case with integrated kickstand and movies look great on my desk at work ;-)

The device does more than I will ever need but more importantly does what I need.

Cost me £410 for the 32gb version but sold the iPhone 5 for £350 so £60 well spent.

:D

Once you've had it about a week its very hard to go back to a smaller device.

My experience has shown that is is somewhat wacky on both platforms.

My own personal experience with my car stereo was that it always displayed the info on my iPhone, but it wasn't until Android 4.3 that it displayed any info on my stereo, I think that was actually one of the features of the 4.3 update.

Coming from an iPhone 5S, and currently using a Nexus 5 I can say from experience that no email app comes close to the stock iphone mail app, especially when it comes to multiple email accounts, with push notification, all in one app that looks polished.
