Am I the only one around here who thinks Amoled got better blacks and Colors, but IPS is still way more accurate at displaying a clear white? I mean, as a photographer you won't check the black-balance on your photo, do you?
This may clear up your misgivings. It's a long read, but addresses your specific concern. You may even find a nice little nugget in there that a photographer would actually appreciate. Adobe Photo Mode.

Most people don't.
That's why nobody gets upset when you see a picture of the Jackson Five with Bruce Springfield.
Ideally you'd get pictures with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian or Stevie Wonder with Bruce Springsteen
and Dr.Dre and Jimmy.
Those would be considered pretty balanced:)

Hey, there are 10 inch tablets available for porn...

I've got an iPad for that.

and if I really need power, Surface Pro :p

I've got everything covered. Don't you worry

ONTOPIC:

I've got an S6, and It truly amazes me how Samsung could improve on this screen tech. If there's ONE feature of the S6 that stands out, one of them is the screen quality, the second is the camera... Thats two, So the two standout features are the screen quality, the Camera quality decent build... ok ok. THREEE

NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Would the current implementation of 3D Touch work on an OLED display?
[doublepost=1456259571][/doublepost]
1080p OLED on the 4.7" iPhone and I'll be happy.

I doubt they're going to raise the iPhone resolution any time soon.

Isn't that something extremely subjective? To some, it will be a bad experience while for others it will be a good one

Obviously. But people are constantly knocking Android based on Samsung's version of it. I would have hard time believing an iOS fan would have much to gripe about with stock Android. The experience is quite similar.

Why not? The tech is there, the battery is there, the GPU power is there. No reason why not.

I really don't know why they won't, I just don't think they have a good history of doing it. And then what would they make the Plus? 1440p? And wouldn't that just make the Plus have another year of apps not looking right?

They've fallen behind a long time ago;

No file manager = fail.

Not everyone needs a file manager.

I dunno. OLED feels more 'blocky' to me. If that makes sense. There's definitely a clear difference when I look at my Watch compared to my iPhone or iPad - or even my rMBP. OLED has always looked less Retina-y to me, you can definitely discern pixels.

I hope Apple doesn't move to over boosting color saturation. It pops on the screen but pictures and video looks terrible on anything else.
Yeah they just need to let us configure the displays to our liking (or just give simple options like Samsung does) and nobody would be complaining.
Hate to admit it but Apple has fallen behind when it comes to the screen. Hopefully when they do start using them they blow it out the water...
Apple has fallen behind in just about every category in terms of hardware. Performance is definitely still there though. It feels like the contrary though because of sloppy coding with iOS (stuttering animation/general slowdown in places that should not be a struggle for the device at all)

But yeah, camera is great but not excellent (thanks over softening algorithms), display is good, not excellent, battery is great, not excellent (iPhone Plus models are an exception, those are really good) etc etc...

I feel Apple is out of touch. Samsung really brought what customers wanted this year. They brought back water resistance, that's always a plus (without the annoying flap!) they brought but SD card slot, they improved battery life, got more RAM for the reloading issues (lol reloading issues with 3GB of RAM), they made the camera a monster, they brought a better SoC, better display...

But no with Apple we get:
Thinner phone, small battery

Pressure sensitive display that is arguably a gimmick, not put to good use in iOS

Very minor camera improvements year over year

And now we might be losing the headphone jack. Really Apple?

I love iPhone and all, will always choose iOS over Android, I won't leave the Apple ecosystem for a long long time (if ever) but Apple has me shaking me head quite a lot recently. Frustrating.

Another person stuck in the past.
People have different standards. I used a family member's Galaxy S6 and I still hated the OS even though it's miles better than it was when I had my Galaxy S4.
I can't tell anymore if people are being sarcastic or not.
I am sincerely hoping many of these people are being sarcastic. God help us if they aren't.

Yeah agreed OLED is pretty nice. Apple doesn't have much reason to not switch to it asap. I've been drooling over LG's OLED TV's lately.

Still wait on OLED. I have an LG, and there are some issues with motion/panning shots. They still need to refine the technology.

I think Samsung has done really well with the OLED screen technology but I still feel if Apple did not push for Retina we would have larger screens with so-so display qualities.

I completely disagree. Evolution of processor speed, screen resolution and quality, ram, etc - these are all things that will always be improved upon. Apple has/had nothing to do with improving screen quality in the industry other than they improved the displays they used and gave it a fancy name.

Everything to do with all mobile devices is extremely subjective.

Unless of course the apologists are in town...

BTW guys, Jobs had us all with the retina "can't see individual pixels so a higher resolution is redundant" ploy.

Doesn't matter whether you can see the pixels, a higher-than-retina pixel density display looks better.

There's a reason the 6+ is RetinaHD

When iphones don't have the better screen, people will just write it off as unnecessary.. Once it's introduced, everyone will say, "wow, we got the best." Kinda like what happened when Apple moved to the bigger screen.. When it was small, everyone wrote the bigger screen off and said, "you can't use it with one hand." Then Apple makes a bigger screen and all of a sudden everyone says, "heck yes, it's so good." You see what's happening here? It's almost like brainwashing the devotees.

Not everyone needs a file manager.

Just the regular 4.7" to 1080p and possibly boost the 5.5" to its native resolution. It actually downscales to 1080p at the moment.

That is just a beautiful piece of crap!

Sure, it looks good, but deep down, it just plain stinks.

Just kidding. I'm glad Samsung is pushing the display technology. I think the samsung edge is a slick looking phone.

But the screens may have shorter lifespans. If Apple could get everyone to exchange their current iPhone for the latest model on a yearly basis, quick-dying screens wouldn't matter. Otherwise, I say pass on OLED until the tech is reliable.

What kind of BS are you peddling here? ;) I haven't had a single issue with any of my OLED screens. My daughter uses my old phone and that sucker is 4-5 years old. No issue. I had my S4 for 2 years - no issue.

Are you using old biases?

The Galaxy S7 also uses sub-pixel rendering, which improves image sharpness by treating red, green, and blue sub-pixels as individual image elements. DisplayMate says the technology can make the screen appear to have up to 3 times the resolution of traditional pixel rendering.
Subpixel-rendering is literally used on basically every computer since like 2002 or something (I think it first appeared in Windows XP under the name "ClearType"). It comes with trade offs (color fringes, display dependence) and is extremely subtle. It's only really useful to get the last bit of readability of a low resolution screen. On high-DPI screens it should be turned off by default imo. The SGS7 has a 1440p screen ffs.
