I always find it funny how everyone goes on and on about the cameras on these phones. Anyone that is truly serious about pictures and wants top quality when going to an event or something should have a true camera they use for that. Yeah, it's nice to be able to take decent quality shots with your phone, but I don't see why so many look at it as a make or break feature.

Honestly, only reason I have a smartphone anymore is for the camera. So that's the #1 one thing I look for in a phone. As the saying goes "the best camera is the one that's with you". I get what you're saying, but the best photos are I have are from spontaneous events where I'd never have my DSLR.

A potato can beat the iPhone 7 plus in low light. I have a 6s and the camera is an embarrassment compared to my mom's s7 edge.

It's a generation ahead, this was expected. The iPhone 8 will beat the S8, then the S9 will beat the iPhone 8. The cycle continues.

The iPhone 7 is a huge improvement in low light, I hated the 6S camera too.

FWIW I think that these comparisons are great and show how far these devices have come. No matter what device you use, you'll have great, clear, memorable shots.

I'm pretty sure the next iPhone's camera will be just as good, or close to it.

I highly doubt that image quality is the deciding factor in choosing iPhone or Samsung for most, but it is definitely "one more thing" that puts the Sammies over the top, pound-for-pound (in my opinion).

That said, no product is one-size-fits-all, so debating whether the device as a whole is "better" is objectively subjective.

I just wish Apple would "bite" more Android features and add them to their devices/software.

'Till then, it's "bye Felicia" for me.

Click bait!
This kinda of article are just for getting people's click and posts (wich works BTW).

And I fell for it too!

You are either new to the internet or are just being disparaging because Samsung got some positive news on the home page. This wasn't "click bait."

The purpose of "click bait" is to provide a intentionally evasive teaser that encourages you to click through to the article. When the entire post is presented directly in front of you and in one uninterrupted stream of copy you have everything you need to see without clicking anything. Anything you do after that is your responsibility. Did you need to comment? No.

And for everyone who upvoted that comment you need to go back to Internet school too.

Yeah same here. The majority of people who start Internet spec fights over the camera are never going to use it for anything more than the rest of the consumer public. They'll be taking photos of food, badly lit selfies in a bathroom, something dumb that happened while they were out or a blurred image of something far away in portrait mode.

The majority of users wouldn't even know their ISOs from their EXIFs and have probably never even touched a manual setting of a camera on any device.

So if Apple improves the camera for the 8 and 8S this year, that still puts iPhones ahead for 2017?

At the end of the day, the whole widget is all that matters to me. Samsung may have an edge for image processing right now, but only in some situations, and it still runs Android, which is trash.

It's because we are talking real world situations. If you go to the club with your friends, you're not being your Canon DSLR. I for one want the best possible mobile camera I can get. Not to mention, phone cameras these days take pretty damn good images.

Except the Samsung camera app has more options, features and parameter controls than Apple's crippled phone interface ever has.

If you pretend you want a camera for anything other than random snaps of daily life to post on Instagram then the Apple phone app isn't even close.

The only thing I care about less than the quality of selfies is stats on tablet cameras. That said, I know that a lot of people care about both of those things.

The bottom line is that top end phones have really good and comparable cameras.

OPs point still stands.

The majority are not shooting art or publishing, if you are in a club taking photos of your drunk friends then "good enough" is all that's needed.

You won't be waking up the next day and saying "Man, the low light noise is far too heavy and the white balance is way off. Should have used RAW too. I'm not posting a 200x200 image of that to my Facebook wall with a caption and some cartoon vomit."

It's difficult to compare cameras with such different software settings. Extreme color boosting aids night but is beyond hideous in normal light.

And that sums it up quite well.

We've peaked with cameras and entering diminishing returns. They are more than good enough for the majority of smartphone users and what they use them for. Professionals might like to experiment with a phone for kicks, but if they care about the images then they'll take their DSLR or just edit the phone image in Photoshop anyway.

Those bottles look definitely better on the right side, just look at the marble shelf.

EDIT: the composition of the shot may be the reason.

Look only at the transition line, at the Absolut bottle and the glasses on the marble counter. The right side has a yellow tinge that's not present on the left.

"iPhone 7 Plus known to Beat Galaxy S8 in every respect, in all Conditions"

^ Truthful version

~ It doesn't matter how amazing your camera is if it has fingerprint smudges all over the glass...

~ All that hardware power WASTED on a toytown version of Android, bundled inside a cheapo plasticky shell with last minute design decisions (fingerprint sensor location) etc etc... imagine all this power inside an iPhone, mastered by the elegance of iOS...

No comparison but not a surprise since even the older Galaxy S7 was rated higher than iPhone 7 on DxOMark. Wouldn't be surprised if Galaxy S8 surpasses current #1 Google Pixel.

https://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles

Samsung S8
+ stereo audio vs mono on iPhone
+ faster autofocus
+ wider dynamic range
+ more detail retention
+ less noise in low light
+ better metering and not as jumpy as iPhone
+ natural skin tone compared to iPhone's hepatitis yellow
+ better OIS

iPhone 7 Plus
+ Apple is more profitable

I admit the current 3 year old tired design of iPhone 7 Plus looks completely dated compared to Galaxy S8.

I hope Johnny Sins has finished wasting his time on designing coffee table books and Apple campus and designs REAL iPhones now. Hopefully Apple brings back a slipping market.

I am also skeptical about rumors that Apple will have non-OLED models with same rehashed design of iPhone 6. That would be shameful. OLED or not, all next iPhone need totally revamped design.

They should stop letting people who have zero concept of low light performance post low light photo comparisons. The samples in this article are worthless as comparisons.

The right side seems to be capturing much more light than the left side......also the wine glasses.

That's because the light source is on the right-- there's literally more light on the right to "capture".

Try looking at the Abolut bottle. It's vodka-colored on the left, but yellowish on the right. The best place to compare the two sides is right on the transition line. The rest of the picture is irrelevant because of significant lighting variations in the environment.
