Because the gap between a phone camera and a 'serious' camera is getting closer and closer. The photo of the iPhone are simply sufficient for most of the events/pictures.

You meant "smaller and smaller", and no, it really isn't.

~ All that hardware power WASTED on a toytown version of Android, bundled inside a cheapo plasticky shell with last minute design decisions (fingerprint sensor location) etc etc... imagine all this power inside an iPhone, mastered by the elegance of iOS...

Fun fact, using large type doesn't make something incorrect to be true.

Smartphone users shocked as new smartphone better than competitor models released 7 months earlier.

Seriously, what did people expect? iPhone 7S/8 will be better than the S8. The S9 will be better than the 7S/8... and so the circle continues.

It's called innovation, that thing these companies aparantly don't do.

I always find it funny how everyone goes on and on about the cameras on these phones. Anyone that is truly serious about pictures and wants top quality when going to an event or something should have a true camera they use for that. Yeah, it's nice to be able to take decent quality shots with your phone, but I don't see why so many look at it as a make or break feature.

The best camera is the one you have with you. I have a DSLR that I take when I know I'm going to be doing a photo shoot, but when I'm out and about, my phone is my camera. I don't expect pro quality out of it (however, I've taken some photos on my iPhone that are good enough quality for pro use), but I'm all for them making them better!

Of course it will but it's not fair comparing the iPhone 7 Plus to the S8 the same way it is comparing the S8 to the iPhone 8, they're released six months apart.
And? You're comparing best phones available from said manufacturer. Tell Apple to release iPhones in the spring. I'm all for it

"iPhone 7 Plus known to Beat Galaxy S8 in every respect, in all Conditions"

^ Truthful version

~ It doesn't matter how amazing your camera is if it has fingerprint smudges all over the glass...

Have you seen a Samsung phone lately? Their design has gotten a lot better, its all metal and glass now. You should walk into a Best Buy and take a look and get informed.

You are either new to the internet or are just being disparaging because Samsung got some positive news on the home page. This wasn't "click bait."

The purpose of "click bait" is to provide a intentionally evasive teaser that encourages you to click through to the article. When the entire post is presented directly in front of you and in one uninterrupted stream of copy you have everything you need to see without clicking anything. Anything you do after that is your responsibility. Did you need to comment? No.

And for everyone who upvoted that comment you need to go back to Internet school too.
Thank you my master!

I am happy there's someone who can teach us the internet!

Somebody here woke up on the wrong side of the bed ;);););) !!

EDIT:
Added some emoji to make it more...."internety" (yes it is a made up word I know....before you complain about my "English") for ya :), also using the "" to sound more "cool".

I'm on day 3 with my GS8. It is a great piece of hardware with an almost usable OS. TouchWIz is even .... OK now. iOS is still far superior in ease of configuration. Usability is about equal.

But at least with TouchWiz I can get all kinds of weather and chicks really dig it.

I really admire what Samsung did with the S8 and the physical changes. I understand that not everybody appreciates where they placed the fingerprint sensor, but they made some changes to the design that I really like with the display and form factor. I think the S8 is loaded and has a lot of potential. It will be interesting to see the competition when the iPhone 8 releases this fall.

Getting really tired of these all-in-ones. I know they're fantastic for some people. For me, I'd rather not pay this much for camera features.

I like my dslr and lenses as well but I still have a iPhone 6plus. Since I have the phone on me every day it is truly my go to camera. Will upgrade come the next iPhone. I can only imagine the camera upgrade between my 6+ and that. For the truly great shots I want then dslr all the way.

Seems like a crappy article as they are comparing last years iPhone with this years S8. They should wait till the next iPhone cycle and then compare.

And the iPhone 8 camera will be better than the S8 then the S9 will be better than the iPhone 8 and round and round we go.

The cameras on all flagship smartphones have been great for years now. Parsing the tiny differences between them seems like a theoretical exercise more so than something that really matters to how people use their phones at this point.

Same. Hobby photographer.

When i'm out and about on my daily life, my SLR is at home. But if I want to grab a shot or two?

The Best camera is always the one I have on me

there's a reason this statement gets repeated a lot :p

Yep and it isn't you can carry a professional DSLR camera into a concert or sporting event. Not to mention there have been NUMEROUS times where I've been in situations where my expensive DSLR and Micro Third cameras failed and I had to resort to my iPhone as a backup. The people who say crap like people who want to take photos should use a DSLR are just a bunch of snobs. Why shouldn't we push companies to continually improve their products. People act like it's an either somehow having a better camera in a cell phone taints their "hobby.".

Agreed, but I travel the US for a living. I see tourists using only a phone for 99% of situations. We're talking lifetime photos that they will look at for the next 50+ years. The only copy.

So, phones have handily replaced dedicated cameras. People want really great phone cameras. Ship has sailed, no matter the logic in using an actual P&S/DSLR.

Serious about pictures or not, it's the new reality...and a hugely important thing for consumers.

iPhone 8 will blow away this Galaxy s8 in every aspect :- take my word

@Sunny1990. So, basically you're making a judgment call based off of a phone camera that is six months apart? Why would someone take your word for something that you have no idea what it's capabilities Are as of yet?

I don't doubt that iPhone 8 camera will be great, but you can't make a biased judgment call based off something that you have no experience with that's not even available. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Samsung's new flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones went on sale today in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Korea, as the company looks to rebound from last year's Note7 debacle. Samsung will be encouraged by the record one million pre-orders it has already taken in Korea alone, while analysts are predicting global sales to reach at least 45 million units.

The 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch devices cost $725 and $825, respectively, which gets users an OLED screen that takes up 80 percent of the front of the handsets. Online reviews appeared earlier this week praising the phones' Infinity Display, but several marked them down for the relocation of the fingerprint scanner to the rear of the devices, right alongside the camera lens.

The camera itself has received less coverage, as it's actually the same 12MP dual pixel module as the one that appeared in last year's Galaxy S7. However, Samsung has tweaked the software powering the f/1.7 lens in an attempt to improve image processing. To compare the results with those of the iPhone 7 Plus, Tom's Guide posted a selection of side-by-side comparison shots taken with the two rival phones.

Overall, the Galaxy S8 came out on top, but only by a slight margin. Despite lackluster macro performance with the S8, both phones' bright light results were said to be generally equal, but Samsung's new device bested the iPhone 7 Plus in well-lit nighttime and low-light shots, offering "generally richer" colors, sharper subjects, and "significantly more detail" in indoor and outdoor tests.

Despite the higher megapixel count of the S8's front-facing camera (8MP versus 7MP on the iPhone 7), Apple's phone was deemed to take sharper selfie shots with richer colors, while the two phones were tied in 4K 30fps video tests, although the S8's audio was said to be slightly cleaner.

Apple is thought to be testing a new dual-lens camera system similar to the iPhone 7 Plus for this year's upcoming OLED iPhone, which will have a Samsung-made display. Rumors suggest the front-facing camera of the iPhone 8 will use a "revolutionary" 3D-sensing system capable of identifying the depth and location of subjects, which could be used for facial and iris recognition or in future augmented reality features.

Now, how are those batteries?.. do they explode before or after you take that superior low level photo?

Why? Just because the new calendar year begins at the start of January? What if the new calendar year began at the start of July?

Apple apologists these days... tsk tsk tsk.
