I got the Nillkin case. It's great! I love the form factor of the outer screen! The 25 ultra was a bit wide for my hands. This is on the same level as a normal iPhone Pro. Love the added height. Battery so far lasts about 7 1/2hours with my usage. More than my 16 Pro.

Nillkin fan too. I love the Nillkin S Pen Magsafe case for my Fold 6. It is the slimmest option out of the 6-7 cases I tested and has a great grippy texture that resists fingerprints.

Finally found a case at a local ATT store, $40 for Aliexpress garbage quality, but it will have to do for now until the UAG case comes back in stock or the dBrand case releases. A few cons after 2 days of use, I really wish Samsung would offer a matte inner screen protector because the one that came with it is a fingerprint magnet.

The fact that I can close my screen and swipe to to continue the app I'm on is brilliant.
I just discovered this setting last night! Although I use the automatic setting where the app continues without me having to perform any action. After using the Fold for 2 days I'm hooked and don't think I can go back to a traditional slab phone. Flip is sent back to Samsung, S25U sent for $1000 trade in, and iPhone 16PM will be sold shortly. Part of the deal I made to myself (for now) is if I splurge on the Fold I'm only going to own one phone.

For those with the Fold 7 or even 6, what made you choose one of those over the Pixel 9 Pro Fold?

I’ve been back on iOS for a while and deciding between the Fold 7 or a used Pixel 9 Pro fold. (I know the 10 is coming out soon, but given Pixel resale values and my propensity to switch phones often, I’ll avoid that route)

It's kind of hard going back to a tablet let alone another phone, I don't know what Samsung did to the screen but to my eyes its rich and vibrant. It makes me want to use it, and going back to my iPad Pro 13's screen with its faded-out color makes it feel inadequate.

  • Fold 7 is thinner than the 9 Pro Fold, but has a smaller battery, but also has a more efficient chip. So hard to tell how the battery compares. I don't think either of them are stellar, but they should both get through a day for moderate use.
  • Better camera on the Fold 7 than the 9 Pro Fold (and rumored specs for the 10 Pro Fold). But a big camera module that causes a lot of desk wobble.
  • More options for multitasking. (Google still doesn't have the 90/10 split-screen on the QPR1 beta, right?) Gemini actually does a bit more on Galaxy at the moment. Will probably all be equal in a month or two though, as Google has some big updates coming soon.
  • Fold 7 is missing those Pixel call AI features and I have to use a separate visual voicemail app rather than the one in the Pixel phone app. But who actually uses these things to make calls, AMIRITE?
  • Better IP rating than the current Pixel, but worse than what is rumored for the upcoming 10 Pro Fold.
  • And I kinda dig the edge panel.
  • The main thing I like: The Fold 7 is not only thinner, but also narrower and lighter. I think it just feels better in the hand. The power button is also lower on the device, so easier to hit. The ergonomics are just nicer.

I am with you there. I initially didn't give it enough time, but now that I have access to the bigger screen, it's just a joy to use!

I do miss certain things about the Ultra like some of the camera zoom features and the anti glare screen, just much better in sunlight, but now that I "get it", I'm ok with sacrificing a few things to have this form factor. I also wouldn't be surprised if they continue to improve on a few of those gaps next year and beyond.

I love my 9 Pro Fold and I love the Pixel experience but to truly take advantage of all the capabilities of a foldable I find One UI much more appealing. There are things I love about the Pixel, googles version of call screening, the phone and visual voicemail app, the notification/quick setting panel array, the camera processing. But the Fold 7 software and hardware are just on another level. If Google ever had their foldable as capable and optimized as Samsung and ditched the Tensor chips along with the easily scratchable plastic bezel on the inner screen, then I might be back. But right now where I'm at is I'll rock the ZF7 until the foldable iPhone. I'm really excited for that even though I'm slightly disappointed in only two cameras on the rear and no FaceID.

The software has always driven me towards Pixels in the past. But man, the Samsung hardware and software flexibility is tough to beat.

Decisions!

Appreciate the detail.

I’m enjoying this thread and appreciate everyone posting their thoughts. I always think the Pixel and Galaxy annual threads on MR are among the best.

Keep the case reviews going too, very helpful!

software experience and options to do what i want with the Z fold. you don't get that with the pixel fold

Z fold being so thin is a massive selling point. far bigger than i expected it to be

If you go to their site then add something, check out, put in your email and then close the webpage they will email you with an additional 25% off code. Recently bought the Frosted Shield for $27, and for some reason they didn't even charge taxes.

Edit: Actually the code is just VIP25, which is an additional 25% discount from whatever they have at their site.

Same. But OneUI has come a long way. Still not a fan of the notification/ quick settings panel in comparison but aside from that things look very similar and all the core Google apps are the same. But the flexibility of OneUI just puts it over the top. I know it's been said many times but the Pixel version of Android is a lot like iOS. It's a great all around experience but could be capable of a lot more, especially one in regards to foldables.

It's simple (for me). More software features. I do like Pixel 9 Pro Fold UI... in terms of the notification center and quick settings. Still annoys me Samsung won't adopt the 2 column layout (on the swipe down)...

I actually really like the Samsung Clear Grip Case. Unfortunately I already ruined one of the screen protectors trying to get the bubbles out. Holy cow this is why I never use screen protectors haha
I have the glass screen protector that came with the Torras case on mine but man I'm thinking about ripping it off. It is a fingerprint magnet. I went the whole time I had my ZF6 without a case or screen protector. If the ZF7 screen is as scratch resistant as the ZF6 scratches shouldn't be an issue.

Yep! I've come to realize that I just prefer to use my phones caseless.

The Spigen I have is great, but it's not compatible with a lot of cases like the one from UAG or certain Aliexpress cases.
