Galaxy Z Fold8/Flip8

I don’t know if I’m imagining things, but I kinda feel like the Z8 is less smooth than the Z7 was. I get dropped frames and choppy animations every single day, during normal use, I don't play any games on my phone 🫠.

I know Android isn’t as smooth as iOS, but One UI really seems to be the worst offender. I've read that aside from Pixel UI, Oppo apparently has the smoothness figured out, and if I’m not mistaken, Xiaomi also does a pretty good job. What are your thoughts, experiences, or opinions on this? 🧐

It maybe one ui 9 issues. My s26u on 8.5 is pretty smooth. only lags have been in browser on 4 or 5g which is likely my mobile providers issue.

I'm on the latest beta of one ui 9 and it's the same as it was on 8.5

No choppiness or delays on my Fold only once in awhile my back gesture doesn't trigger while let's say I'm in full screen mode on X or similar but might be my end with tweaks

Hmm I wonder if this is evidence of the ‘safe bet’ Apple went with on not having too many 3rd party Apps available on their iPhones.

Apple have a reputation of being extra cautious of dodgy App developers who could potentially threaten their smooth OS.

In saying that, by most reports, Android have been pretty much on par with Apple in terms of smoothness in recent years.

It's unlikely that a 3rd party app is causing choppy animations unless it's a third party launcher, or a rogue app, which I had many times on iOS

I don't think there is anything to support this. If anything IOS releases has been plague with bugs over the last couple of years

IOS was more aimed to be easy for anyone to pick up & use. It’s evolved into something resembling more what Android offers under the hood, but at its core, I think Apple would prefer it to be as less intimidating as possible for kids/elderly…for now…

Android has a similar approach as iOS… Google has taken strides to make it as easy to pick up and use. At this point, it’s all about feature exclusivity and ecosystem. Once you are in the Apple ecosystem… it’s an uphill battle moving to Android because of features tied to Apple.

My social circle consist of iPhone users… so it makes sense for me to stay within the ecosystem, but I make it work via using an iPad. Ultimately I don’t think it’s about which is easier or better… it depends on which features that a person gravitates towards.

100% agree, you can pick up any of a Pixel or a Samsung phone and keep it simple close to the ecosystem, I have friends that have both phones and use the basic stuff on their stuff and nice and simple. It's all about what you get used to and your friends and party and your circle of contacts with convenience.

Is this the black version? I actually have a Vine account and completely forgot about Vine until looking at this! I was able to order the clear version through the program. Is the bottom speaker covered a bit? I read that in a review. Otherwise looks good!

I think it's just rounded at the end but there's enough speaker unobstructed, top and bottom look the same to me

It’s been more buggy than usual, but for the most part, still a smooth-ish OS.

Their security when it comes to Apps has helped keep bugs to a minimum over the years but things have slipped lately.

Could also be a combination of people having too many of certain Apps eating background resources + near full storage.

With the number of Apps out there (many iffy), most phones handle things well these days.

I don't use any third party launchers, exactly because I'm afraid of the OS becoming less stable.

Maybe it is a rogue app hmm...

I love Apple's approach when an app isn't loading or keeps crashing: immediately closing and reopening it without asking the user what they want to do or waiting for the app to stop crashing. It makes the OS feel more responsive and less buggy

It is a good approach, I just hope they can bring a good OS experience with the upcoming fold. Both in fold and unfold state.

I'm 1 month in with my Fold8 and it is my first Fold but yeah i do notice occasional stutter/hesitation in animations, app opening/closing, swuping down notification bar etc Gut feeling is that it's more common when unfolded. Framedrops in the middle of a animation is a bit jarring for such a premium device. Sidenote during setup the only thing i transferred from my S26 with Smart Switch was my Samsung and Google account and pictures/videos. No settings or apps or other stuff.

The not so smooth experience combined with my eyes struggling a bit with how text appears when unfolded and me unable to find a suitable size/setting has made me consider parting with it. I do love the front screen - so pleasing to have a device i can reach each corner on without excessive fingergymnastics and fear of it slipping out of my grip.

I have the Oppo Find X9 and while i have annoyances with it the fluidity and animations etc are amazing. No hesitation or out of place animations anywhere. Kind of reminds me of iOS of way back when, or atleast what my brain has convinced me of. Went to a store today and tried out the Pixel 11 Pro and was blown away by how smooth everything felt on it, felt very comparable to the X9.
