Maybe he was working trying to build virtual wealth. Those wacky Asians...

I think all you people that are laughing or making light of this are very sick people.

This guy obviosuly had a mental disorder/illness/addiction (he lost his job because of his gaming) that is no different from someone who drinks themself to death or someone who gambles away from their life savings.

Please show more sympathy.

Calm down I don't think any one here really thinks that this guys dying was all that funny. I think most of us find it very sad and disturbing. Any ways most of the humor is pointed at the gaming community not at this poor guy.

It was probably caffeine or redbull or something in that nature that caused him heart failure.

Most likely. I agree with that.

I used to drink red bull or take Xenadrine (spelling?) to help me stay up for long lengths of time for college final projects. I learned my lesson, that stuff messes you up, bad. Longest I went was like 38 hours or so, fell asleep and woke up the next night- man, was I confused!

Sad

Ouch. RIP Gamer Person.

However, I afree with everything that there is amissing part of the equation here that we don't know <cough>drugs</cough>.

The man was playing Starcraft, not an MMORPG.

So he was - interesting. Well, since Starcarft is one of my favorite all-time games, I can understand the attraction to it, however even I would never play it that long - that's just ridiculous. It's a GAME! Yikes...

P.S. When is Starcraft 2 coming out? Now there's a game I'll spend a lot of time on (but never more than an hour or 2 at a time). ;)

Exactly. Bring them Koreans on in Halo 2 and let them know how owned they will be after 60 hours.

Koreans are some of the best game players in the world, I think it would be the other way around.

I kinda call BS to this story, since it sounds exactly like the one from like a year ago and because of the misleading 'evidence' or lack of it. No need to make humor out of a sad situation, next time some of you die, would you like people making jokes about it and insulting your dead body? People these days...

Yep go ahead. Take the absolute piss out of me. Especially if I manage to die a cool/funny way. That's the way I lived my life and I'd hate to think my family/friends were morose following my death. I'd hope a huge party would be in order.

And as for my dead body you can do what you like with it after they take as many organs as they need to treat others. I can organise for it to be sent to you if you want....

People these days...

Serves him right.
I wouldn't go that far if you ask me. Aften been to Asia (not Korea though) I realized how big gaming is. And with the way how everyone needs money over there, I can see the sense of letting a guy play for 50 hours instead of telling him to get better and stop playing.

We all make stupid mistakes.. this one was his last one.. serves him right??? even though its a joke, its still a life.
We can be better than that.
On another note.. will it be like drinking in bars.. when you leave drunk, is the bar responsible for serving you? or letting you buy more quarters??

I'm not sure I believe this story at all, but if it is true it the death likely has nothing to do with playing a game too long. I remember a while back hearing that someone was killed in China over another player's virtual sword. Now that is kooky.

I don't think the 50 hours of gaming was the main cause.

I'm thinking 28 year old S. Korean guy... okay... he may drink a lot, instant noodles may be his main diet, and he's probably a smoker. Excessive drinking never really killed people while sober, but malnutrition, monosodium glutamate, and blackened lungs definitely will. Add to the fact that his already weak heart had to endure 50 hours of exhaustive game play (I'm guessing some sort of strategy game, could be RPG or FPS which Koreans also like but for some sort of 50 hour mission I'd say strategy?) is what finally cut his thin lifeline.

My finacee's Korean so she can back me up on this 100%. Good thing she's like me, simple Mac users who know that there's more to life than a computer screen.

No offense, but as a Korean physician, I just don't buy that explanation. Noodles, MSG, and smoking do not kill 28-year-olds. Something else was going on here - most likely drugs, though other things such as inherited heart conditions may also have contributed. Then again, the whole story may be bogus.

he probably died so he could control the final battle from his golden psp! im surprised noone's mentioned that.
but seriously, outisde of his death, how the hell do you game for 50 hours?

For what it's worth, the BBC did report it - not saying that makes it the truth without a doubt, but it at least makes it more plausible. With the high profile of gaming over there, this doesn't surprise me.

LOL. Nice South Park reference. True. I can't even stay in bed for 50 hours without getting really restless.

I agree. There are some drugs out there that my friends have taken and they have easily stayed up close to 50 hours without eating much and just drinking. They crash and burn hard and the end of it all but nothing near death.

How many people serious harm themselves while trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records doing some kind of crazy stunt? I never read about such things, but I imagine they happen.
