Please guys stop feeding the troll and let's continue with the OPs topic at hand. A lot of Mac users here are interested on his experiences and we are not here to argue about purchase decisions or Mac vs PC. Thanks.

OP, lots of thanks. Keep your findings coming.

Questions:

How is gaming at 1440x900? Does it look fine, crisp and sharp?

Also how is gaming at 1920x1200? Does it look blurry?

Probably not very good since that's a 16:9 resolution and the new MBP has a 16:10 display.

1920x1200 is the closest you'll get.

You could always force it to display black borders to prevent the picture from stretching

Maven,

Are you able to see both the iGPU (intel) and dGPU (nvidia) in Windows? I am wondering since I am very interested in whether or not Optimus is supported.

Thanks!

Don't get the base retina macbook if your gaming, they only have half the gpu video memory (512 Mb approx.) ... not good. If you plan on using it for Facebook than i strongly recommend upgrading again to 2.7 ghz. the extra L3 cache (2Mb) is super handy.

All jokes aside, i can't wait to get my retina macbook pro, i just wish it had 660m and the 17" :(

either way ill be getting one. :D:D:D

thanks op

Apple doesn't use Optimus, so the integrated GPU will be switched off in Windows, just like every other MacBook with a discrete GPU.

Boot Camp drivers haven't been updated yet, either.

Nope, both entry level and high-end Retina Macs have identical GPUs with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

He was joking, it just wasn't a very good one. Also both models have 6mb L3 cache, which would hardly be needed for "Facebook".

I'm a big MMO fan, play just about any that come out.. Of course GW2 is the big one this year.. Any ideas how well the RMBP will do? Also is the graphics card in the 27" iMac better?

Thanks

Could you make a video that show how silent fan is?

If you browse websites or use NON retina applications like Microsoft office, do they look worse than your non-Retina 2011 because of pixel doubling?

Other than the fact of having an immensely reliable machine for years to come, I'm expecting my 15" ret pro 2.3 i7 & 16gb ram to rape WoW....

Can't wait... Windows to Mac convert at its finest.

Post your results with WoW pls. I am contemplating upgrading from the MBP in my sig, but want to know how it handles games (not the only thing I will be using it for, but important to me). How it does/performs at native and scaled res.

I have just 1 question. How does it feel to spend 3 grand on a laptop only to get a laptop with a midrange graphics card that won't even play games at native resolution very well? Especially if your just going to throw bootcamp on it to play games.

You know for $1200 you could have gotten yourself a much better gaming laptop like the g75vw.

Proceed with the downvotes

I don't think he knows the answer to: "How does it feel to spend 3 grand on a laptop only to get a laptop with a midrange graphics card that won't even play games at native resolution very well?" You might want to check with the guys that bought the Razer Blade, they would know best! ->http://forum.notebookreview.com/other-manufacturers/642913-razer-blade-owners-lounge.html

I can see what they are referring to. Safari scrolling is not buttery smooth at the moment. (I am downloading the updates from Apple now 1.5GB!)

Although, this is normal for revision one hardware. I suspect its throttling trying to conserve as much energy as possible. I have not tried the program/app that forces dedicated only. Im betting that would eliminate it all together. 100% positive Apple will address it.
Download Chrome and see what happens, Chromes my go to anyway.

Um all retina MacBook Pro's have 1gb.

You might have it mixed up with the non-retina's. Base is 512mb and upgrade is 1gb.

All retina's though have 1gb...

Not that many years ago, many Mac buyers didn't mind that Apple computers weren't for games. Fast forward to the present, and one finds quite a number of users priorities involve games. Sadly, Apple doesn't make any effort whatsoever to at least enhance their gaming ability.

There's a very high level of determination on Apples part to demonstrate how it's going to be. They purposely ignore customers just to show who's in charge. It's as though the arrogant ghost of Jobs still rules.

That's why they demonstrated Retina MBP running Diablo 3 at WWDC? Because they aren't embracing gaming on macbooks. Right.

Even though the 650 sounds like it won't be much worse than a GTX660, it is. Its a lot less powerful. Combine that with running at retina resolution and your going to have to turn graphics settings to low in order to play any modern game at 30fps or higher.

I just find it funny how many people get so defensive over an Apple product. I myself really enjoy my macbook air, Imac and iPhone but I couldn't see spending 3 grand on a mediocre laptop. OMG its got an aluminum case and I use it for work, yet the first thing I do when I get home is see how it can game and then tell other people about gaming on it.

I like my mini too much, although I can't wait to see the screen in person. It'll be interesting to see what future models of the RMBP bring.

Yep it is sad that Apple isn't willing to compete. They could easily toss a high end video card in and redesign the computer for optimal cooling but instead they put in mid level parts and charge a premium to people because fans will buy regardless.

so why are you on this forum?

Also go ahead buy a that crap pc with a nice video card. then in 12 months it will be outdated. and i'll jsut go ahead and buy an external gpu connceted via thunderbolt.

The nvidia geforce 650m is one of the best graphics cards for mid sized laptops. Pretty much to get a better graphics card you need a 17" laptop. You can read more here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
Also, this is the same graphics card that Alienware 14x uses and they are supposedly top of the line gaming. Their 17+" models do use a higher end card but their larger frame can carry them.
I'm curious to know if Diablo 3 can evenbe run at the highest tetina setting or if the 19--x1080 is the highest
Thank you

Anandtech called diablo 3 at 2880 "surprisingly playable", although he wasn't very far into the game.
