So much for the "Mac is dead to Apple" chestnut the haters like to throw around.

In the meantime, Dell and HP battle to see who can lose the most money selling bottom-barrel-budget PCs at razor-thin margins while submitting their monthly tribute check to fat-and-happy Microsoft.

An astounding business plan.

Sour grapes it took HOW LONG since the infamous "1984" ad to not even reach 10%. Meanwhile, Windows 7 got double digits penetration in only 10 MONTHS.

Using only Macs requires a level of masochism I do not aspire to.

I bought a Core 2 in 2007. I'm not going to buy another one in 2010.

Mac Pros come with either:

One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor
Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processors

That's not a core2Duo, so what are you whining about?

Windows 7 achieved 10% only because of the existing monopoly. People just aren't aware that they really have a *choice* now. Nobody really *needs* a Windows PC. Mac has Final Cut Pro and generally artistic UI, not to mention Spaces and built-in search that just *works*.

I only buy Apple notebooks. The desktops leave much to be desired. I'm also not sufficiently, mentally deficient to purchase a Mac without FireWire. That takes another Macbook out of the equation and leaves the MacBook Pro.

It's sad to see people cornered into buying a $284 processor from 2008 on the Mac Pro.

Did I mention that I also know a lot about hardware?

I'm not breaking out the aluminum foil that people are brainwashed into buying Windows just like people are brainwashed into buying an iPod.

You know Apple doesn't make the desktop I want either - but I won't be incessantly whining about it on MR.

1. How many computers has Microsoft sold? How many music players? (I think about 2 weeks of iPod sales total, if they are lucky). How many phones? I think Microsoft might actually win the price for least successful phone ever.

2. Did you know that Apple makes more profit from the MacBook Air alone than Acer makes from _all_ their computer sales? :D

What about installed base?

How come no one releases those figures... I'm guessing as an estimate based on empirical evidence that Macs last a bit longer than PCs (and have higher resale value), that installed base should be rising at a higher rate than market share, non?

It's at least very important to us software developers (helps to determine potential user base).

Aside from the accuracy of which he's pointed out, you seem to be drastically reactive to the notion that Apple's market share has been on the upswing for the past six years.

The success they've achieved with a ~10% and growing market share, profit wise, far outshines the razor thin margins PC vendors have been competing for.

Speaking of "sour grapes..."

LMAO

This could only have been written on one of those bottom-barrel-budget PCs.

I think you dropped your NSAkey.

Apparently so.

Even with the advantage of their existing Monopoly, an ~11% adoption rate vs. their 78% stagnation rate doesn't bode well, at the moment. Erecting more MS Stores, at an operating loss, will hardly change that.
He's probably best buddies with Steve Ballmer, you know that one that said iPhone would get 2-3% market share. :D
Wouldn't be surprised, by the tone of the banter.

Beautifully articulated and I don't ever see HP or Dell spending money to create their own operating system and ecosystem as to keep more of the value in house. Hence the big sham that is going by Windows advocates; actually believing they have a choice in the PC world in reality the only difference between a HP or a Dell is the case it arrives in - the rest of it is the same crappy components, same crappy operating system, same crapware, same horrible support and technical support. 6 vendors all producing the same thing - yeah, thats choice alright *rolls eyes* kinda like in Soviet Russia where you had 3-4 different car brands to choose from but they were all pretty much the same.

Less than 3X Apple's share. How many models does HP sell? On a per model basis, Apple may outsell the market leader.

What does that even mean - "outsell the market leader"?

Apple does not sell more computers than HP, Dell or Acer. Comparing sales SKU by SKU is merely mental masturbation - keep it up and you'll go blind.

...the only difference between a HP or a Dell is the case it arrives in - the rest of it is the same crappy components...

Yes, exactly the same crappy components that you find in MacBooks, Imacs and Mac Pros.

I bet that most of these macs being sold are from people who also have iPhones. And I bet that a large percentage is from college kids. We get apple products shoved down our throat daily(not that I mind:D)

Yes, there really is a 'halo effect,' after all. :)

I was part of the Halo effect, though honestly, I would have probably bought a Mac for college all the same. The iPod Touch drew me in with it's innovation. Then came the Mac. Then the iPhone.

I agree. It's the :apple: tax. There was a lot of whining from Apple fan boys when Microsoft dared talk about it though. :D

Selling their 'Ultimate' Edition at a premium, twice that of OSX *ultimate*, one wonders why Microsoft would dare mention it. ;)
