Can you link to your auction?
I'm going to sell mine. I had some inquire from this forum but got no response when I offered it for $450. Now I'm glad they didn't take it!

this was my auction...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/270941982750?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1562.l2649

instructions following auction were:so, i've been reading up on the transfer and i'm not even sure if you need the new sim assuming yours is a new iPad 3 ATT and came with a sim . of course i will still mail it as promised, but try the following...

I left my billing name, address, even the credit card info all in there and active just to be on the safe side. i don't know if changing the name and address but not the credit card would mess thing up. so i'm relying on the honor system that you will change all of that upon receipt.

you must change ALL of that by APRIL 8th (technically the 9th but to be safe). If i see a charge to my credit card, for the data plan bill father the 9th (the renewal date), which would indicate that you had left my credit card info in there, i will contest the charge to my credit card and att will in turn cancel the data plan. so make all of the changes asap to avoid any complications and contact me immediately on my cell if you have any questions.

follow the following steps.
goto iPad settings > cellular data >view account
> email : niranjanreddy87@gmail.com > password : niranjanreddy87
if you are using this account in a new iPad (3rd gen) then click > add or change data plan
make sure it says DOM unlimited LTE >>
CLICK DOM UNLIMITED LTE IF IT IS NOT ALREADY SELECTED
DO NO CLICK ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT SAY UNLIMITED
DO NOT CLICK CANCEL PLAN
IF THE APPROPRIATE PLAN IS ALREADY SELECTED >> click DONE which will take you back to the main screen
click on > edit user & payment info
change user info from my name and address to yours
change password if you want
change payment and billing information
if service address is different, click > use different service address
scroll to the bottom and click > done
let me know if this works, in which case everything is done. if that doesn't work, you'll need my sim. either way i will send you my sim.

user name : [buyers email address]
password : [password i set up for buyer]

other confirmations from around macrumors:

1. "Just power on your The New iPad and when the ATT screen comes up use your current email address and password, it'll find your existing unlimited plan, offer you the ability to keep it or change it, select 'keep' and you're done."
________________
I just got my new iPad and this is what i did as am on an unlimited plan too,
just went to setting , data and entered my email and password for the at&t unlimited data plan, it took me to another page where it asked if I wanted to keep my unlimited plan or change, selected my plan and pressed next, it automatically updated the account and sent me a text saying it had been updated.
I logged in from the iPad again to check my account and is now showing unlimited data. So its fairly basic.
___________
Setting up the new iPad with AT&T could not have been simpler.

It asked if I was an existing iPad customer, I said yes, logged in with my ID and password, confirmed my current plan, and voila! Done.

No SIM swap, nothing. I went to the ipadlanding page and confirmed the IMEI was automatically updated to that of the new Ipad.

Hey -

Going down the same path here trying to sell my unlimited iPad data plan (if anyone is interested please feel free to comment here.)

Question is how do we ensure the purchaser takes over billing for the account after the sale?

Any advice in advance is appreciated.

Thanks!

Stop trying to beat the system, you're going to get the rest of us who are legitimately grandfathered-in with the unlimited data plan in trouble.

Be a man. Let it go. There are other ways to make a few bucks that don't hurt other, honest, people.

how is it hurting people? lol

BJ, great contribution. No really, "hurting honest people" give me a break.

If anyone can offer real advice it would be appreciated, instead of BJ's pathetic self-centered response.

"Self-centered" response? You are coming onto a discussion forum asking honest people to help you break the law to make money. Can't think of anything more self-centered than that other than asking us to do your time in the county lockup when you get caught.

how is it hurting people? lol

A few thousand iPad 1 buyers who smartly chose the AT&T unlimited data plan back during a scarce 20 day period in May 2010 are very concerned that AT&T will eventually stop grandfathering us in and force us to use standard, limited data plans. Whenever a new iPad is announced, the first question we ask is "will they honor our unlimited data plans?" and we're quite happy and relieved when they do.

So any time some kid tries to make a few bucks by selling us out on eBay, it brings us one step closer to losing our unlimited data plans. All it takes is a few hundred cheapskate community college kids using their iPad's as a dorm-wide wireless internet hub and BOOM, AT&T will shut us down.

Therefore, any individual selling their UDP SIM's online for a quick buck is "hurting people" some day in the future. I'm going to call AT&T now, see if there's a way they can shut down this practice so that the rest of us decent and honest people remain safe.

As AT&T doesn't support tethering for iPads and can detect unauthorized tethering with a jailbroken iPad, you concern is fantasy.

BJ -

Seriously, where is it against the law to sell a cell phone service plan? Please would love to hear that.

I'm no kid, not looking to do anything illegal, just don't need the unlimited plan any more.

As far as worrying about AT&T shutting you down, let's face it the writing is on the wall, look at what the company did to all of the "unlimited" iPhone data plan users.

Why don't you try editing your signature so that you come across like the adult that you think you are.

Thanks.

insurance that they take over the billing is that if they don't, you will contest the charge on your credit card and the account will be closed at which point they will lose the account and the grandfathering and all they money they just spent. there is absolutely no incentive to try and screw you. this was all clearly written in my eBay description as well as the instructions to transfer. this clarity made it a super simple transaction and the entire transfer was completed within an hour of the sale, mailing of the sim wasn't even needed but I did anyway.

transfer of user and billing is not cheating they system, they are meant to be transferable. selling the plan isn't probably what AT&T intended but it is a valuable commodity to some and has inherent market value.

It's not illegal to sell your iPad's unlimited data plan. Ethical? Depends on who you ask. Then again, if there's a willing buyer and a willing seller, there's really no harm being done...especially since it's not illegal.

Wow, I cancelled mine too, to upgrade to the 5GB + tethering plan. Had no idea I could sell it! Like flushing $500 down the drain. Might sell my wife's, who uses <1GB/mo. Need more details on how to do it easily and safely.

FOR THOSE WANTING TO SELL YOUR UNLIMITED SIM ON EBAY

There is absolutely no need to involve AT&T when transferring your unlimited plan. Calling them will just be a waste of time. All you gotta do is change the credit card on your prepaid account to a prepaid card with enough on it for one month of service. Then send the SIM card along with your login info (which you should probably change too). That's it. These SIMs go for $500-$700 on eBay easily, especially now with LTE.

What does ethics have to do with it? If someone wants to drop $500+ on a data plan that's on them.

If they don't take over the billing and let the plan expire then that's their fault. Once you sell it, it's in their hands. Just change your credit card info to a prepaid card with one month of service on it and once that plan expires, it expires unless the purchaser changes the cc info to theirs.

Are you kidding? Since when we're AT&T iPads hot spot capable? Oh wait, never. Relax man, it's a data plan. No one is hurting anyone here. If there's someone willing to pay $500+ for a SIM card then that's on them.

Edit: Ugh, you're the guy with the douchy signature.

In regards to the recipient, they couldn't use their sim, that's already in their LTE-Ipad for example? What I'm saying is, is there any way around mailing the original sim? I would just drop my "unlimited" coverage on my phone, and use my iPad as the main source of net access.

To those of you out there interested in getting rid of your unlimited iPad data... pm with offers =)

That's the iPhone, sigh... People just do not read anymore.

Unlimited iPad owners are fooling themselves if they think AT&T will not throttle them. Of course they will.

Don't be a crybaby.

Unlimited iPad owners are fooling themselves if they think AT&T will not throttle them. Of course they will.

That's why I stayed with my unlimited Verizon data for my iPad instead of getting an AT&T one. I don't want to take the chance of paying $600-$700 and end up getting throttled in a few months.

A few of you guys PM'ed asking about buying my plan, I'm happy to sell it to somebody on Macrumors than just anyone on eBay...that said I haven't listed it on eBay yet, but if you look over there the cards are going for almost $700 (and in some cases above.)

However, if somebody on here wants it we can work out a fair price since there would be no fees. Also, my card is paid up through the 22nd of this month.

Let me know if you want the card before I list it on eBay later this week. I'd walk you through the process, and I'll throw in FedExing the sim card to you for free as well.

Thanks guys!

But the account is still in your name & credit? So you're trusting the buyer to pay the bill on time?

Also, how does this work if you're under contract?

I'm assuming you can't sell your plan if you're on a family plan?

I am interested in getting an Unlimted plan/SIM for my iPad. Shoot me a PM if you need a buyer. :)
