review

It's my 3rd day with the Icebox, I have to say I'm happy with it so far. It does it job on what it is suppose to do. Protect my Iphone. I love the front side of the case, it's a pretty good material, no scratches or anything, it's very crystal clear and has nice feel to it. The touchscreen respond very well even with the case. I love the fact that the chrome still stands out even inside the case. The buttons are all accessible but they are not covered. Mine doesn't have bubbles in it like others, I feel sorry for you guys. Then again mine doesn't have any protective screen on my iphone as a double, I tried to do it but it looks like it won't fit in the case, so I have my Iphone "naked" inside the case and it fits perfectly.

My only gripes are the back side of the case, I guess it's a different material than the one in front because it's a scratch magnet, although the scratch is more of a hairline scratches, it's not like a scratch where somebody ran their keys on their car:p and I have a black 3G Iphone so it's more noticeable than the white Iphone I guess. Also the front is kind of a fingerprint grease magnet, I have to wipe very often with the complimentary cloth that was included by Gear4. And also the case is kinda difficult to remove in an instant, I guess it's designed not to fall apart easily just in case it fell on the ground which is good, but I haven't tried, can anyone confirm this? :D:rolleyes:

So in conclusion, I'll stay with this case for now, I'm still looking for the perfect case out there, if ever there will be. I'll give this case :apple::apple::apple::apple: out 5:apple:

Video demonstration please :D

I will try when I get home, but I noticed on your previous post you mentioned you have a protective skin as a double protection? I think that's what making it harder for you to remove the case. Hopefully my video demo will still be able to help you out though. I'm surprise you were able to fit your iphone in the case with the protective screen on it. I tried but I got scared that it will be too tight and it will put a lot of strain on my iphone and my iphone itself will get scratch or worse it will crack! And with all the news going around now about the iphone cracking:eek:, I'm more careful now :(

Hi edtorious :)

Thanks for the response. It's not necessarily a "skin" I have on my phone, just a clear film that coats the touch portion of my screen. Here is a link to exactly what I have...

http://store.apple.com/us/product/T...phone_accessories/cases&mco=MTAxMjgz#overview

I too don't have the air bubble problem (yet ), and I thought it was because I have the protective film on there... but you mentioned you don't have the problem either and don't have any protective film... guess we just got lucky? :p

I'm a clean freak (especially when it comes to my phone) so I'd like to know how to open up the case so I can occasionally wipe down the inside. I also enjoy the cloth they included so I can wipe down the touch screen part. I just hope I don't lose it!

Questions

I am seriously thinking about getting this case. I have a couple of questions:
1.) How responsive is the touch-screen? I used my 1st gen iPhone naked and was very accustomed to the feel, and responsivness. I wouldn't want to have to apply any more pressure than if I was using it caseless.

2.) It looks like the speakers at the bottom are not covered, but I was just wondering if this case affected, hindered the sound speaker quality?

Thanks.

(1) Touch response is perfect

(2) Speakers not blocked

DRAWBACKS:

(1) Back of case is a SCRATCH-MAGNET and front is a FINGERPRINT-MAGNET

(2) Case is very difficult to remove

Overall, would I recommend getting this case? YES! I'm more than happy with my purchase.

Thanks! I don't mind both drawbacks.
(1) Better my case with scratches than my iPhone.
(2) The only time I see myself removing the case, is to clean the iPhone and case from any dust or dirt that might build-up.

A couple more questions I had was: Is this case more of a scratch & fingerprint magnet than if the iPhone was naked? Also worried about the case scratching the iPhone body. Have heard of cases actually causing more damange to the iPhone 3G.

Finally, am really hoping that the front of the case does not leave any marks ora air-bubbles as I do n ot want to be putting tape or anything else to make an already gorgeous phone look beautiful. Paying for a case I would like it to do what I expect it to from the start.

Thanks once again.

Mine shipped out July 23 and I still havent effing recieved mine, Im utterly pissed, the tracking is worthless, I cant call because its numbers for the UK.

Some pictures of the air bubbles issue. The center bubbles are caused by dust but the edge bubbles are there because of the difference in heights of the front case.

Ok, though I still have some reminiscences of the air bubble issue, I think I found the problem/solution. Before closing the cover, both surfaces should be very clean, so it's best to use a screen cleaner gel of some sort to get rid of any dirt.

It isn't perfect, but it is better.

After talking to the seller on eBay, I got a replacement and came in today.

Update: Returned the cases and pending for refund. After a day of use, I found out the bottom and corners are harder to press so it would respond. Best not to buy generic cases on eBay. I'm going with Capsule Rebel or Incase for now.

so did it help? or were you doing the same thing I do?

It helped ALOT! Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to make a video demonstration. The first time I tried getting it off, I spent 30-45 minutes trying to pry it off, nearly breaking the brand new case. I also had sweat pouring down my face in frustration

After watching your demo, I was able to get the case off within minutes! Looks like with the Gear 4 Ice Box case you'll need to take the phone out about once a week to clean out any dust/particles that get inside. Overall, GREAT CASE!

for those who use the Icebox, does it fit with Apple dock?

I don't have a dock yet, sorry

I'm awaiting for a much better third party dock.... I really like the dual dock that Griffin had for the 2g Iphone but I don't think it's compatible with 3G, I'm hoping they would release one for 3G so me and my wife's Iphone can both dock our Iphone together...:D

Does the Gear4 IceBox Pro have an adhesive that you have to apply? My friend FINALLY got his Ivyskin Xylo T3 and he said it's a bit harder to type now. I'm wondering if this is because in addition to the hard cover on the top, there is an adhesive you have to apply.

Could someone with the IceBox Pro please chime in? I'm debating if I want to order this one and return my Xylo T3 which I hope to get sometime this week.

The response on the touch screen is excellent even with the icebox case on, there is no adhesive that you have to apply. What is the adhesive on Xylo is for  You're probably talking about protective screen? But why would Xylo have us put a protective screen when their case already covers the top? Hmmm... That's weird. Ask your friend if the adhesive or the protective skin came with the Xylo? And if it's required to apply it with the case? I guess that will kind of make the touchscreen hard to be responsive with double layers of protection:( That is not good.

Update: Never mind, see here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/521531/ the 'adhesive' you're talking about is shipping protective skin for the case, you're suppose to remove them per the post on that link. tell your friend pls :D

I'm not getting any happier with this case... Although I somewhat sorted the air bubbles issue, I've brought me one or two scratches onto the iphone itself, because of small dust particles that got in between the cover and the phone, and when sliding the case it scratched the back... So take a lot of care when removing the case... :S

I ordered mine on July 25th and it came Saturday. I also ordered the Xylo T3 from ivyskin also and sold it as I felt my phone fit better in the IceBox and the screen was more responsive, even with the protective film taken off the Xylo.

I bought this case off of ebay for $19.99 + shipping. It's a Gear4 Icebox knockoff but it works great! No problems with the responsiveness of the touch and I thought I would have problems with dust getting it but I cleaned the case really well before I put the phone in and have not had to open the case to clean the iPhone at all.

No scratches on the metal. Yet. :D

Here are some photos I took:

Does this case cover up the silver bezel around the iphone? Or does it still show through the case? It looks like it shows but I cant tell if its the plastic I'm seeing or the silver bezel.
