My girlfriend's 2018 Macbook Air had issues within 2 days; my Macbook Pro 2018 within 2 weeks. So the fact that there haven't been any reports yet to me is an improvement already...

I agree and was thinking similarly. I had heard many reports in a short time when other models were released. I hadn’t heard of any which is why I started this thread just to see.

So far, as far as I’ve heard someone has mentioned their friend had a sticky s key, is your friend sure this was the new model?
Any firsthand reports?

I am also sure it may take time but so far it does seem improved.

a few weeks ago they finally put in a 2019 keyboard after 6 failed 2018s (and on my 4th replacement MBP due to keyboard failures that were occurring literally 4-5 days after the machine was unboxed). 2019 keyboard hasn't failed yet and it's been almost 3 weeks. The 2019 keyboard feels a bit better to type on than 2018s.

My 2019 MBP 15" keyboard is great. As the former owner of a 12" 2015 MB that went through three keyboard replacements (gen 1 of the butterfly keyboard) I will tell you that it took almost exactly a year each time for the problems to manifest and shortly after that the keyboard became unusable. So I will wait and see.

the keys on the 2019 15inch definitely feels different from the 2017 model I owned.
maybe it's too early to tell if they actually fixed the problem this time, i'm pretty happy with it and enjoy typing on it a bit more than the old ones.

I’ve owned the 2019 MacBook Pro 13” for around a month, I’ve had no issues so far.

No issues on mine either. 2019 mbp 15". Still too premature yet.

I will be picking up the new refreshed air in a few months when they come out w/ scissor keyboards. Hopefully the keyboard reliability issue will become a thing of the past in apple's history.

2018 15" MBPro owner here. One year, no issues. To be fair, the majority of the time I use the magic keyboard at work, except when I get home. That's when I use the laptop exclusively.

This is not a thread to discuss earlier versions of the butterfly other than the 2019. Discussion of earlier models ultimately confuses or dilutes the information here.

I cant believe how many 'generation' keyboards we have for one style of keyboard iteration of Mac laptop designs.

patently absurd

Why can’t you? If you wanted to keep improving a product wouldn’t you keep improving a product? Refine refine refine. With what I do with work that’s all I do. I improve on my designs year after year.
Clearly Apple didn’t want to abandon the butterfly keyboard so they kept improving it.
If they saw no need for it after 2016 they would of stopped trying to improve it. I’m still skeptical if we will go back to the old style of keyboards till it actually happens.

I don’t believe it’s the old style. If I understand correctly it’s closer to the new style but with a different mechanism, and a slight increase in key travel. I don’t think it’s going to be like the 2015. I could be wrong of course.

If they do anything it’s the magic keyboard style. Still an older scissor style just shallower not wobbly like -2015’s. My favorite keyboard Apple has made.

If they are in fact dropping the butterfly mechanism, that tells me Apple has little confidence in the keyboard
