Interesting analysis there. I have to disagree however. I've yet to see a single person wearing them in London, and rush hour here isn't exactly deprived of people wearing headphones. The other issue they have to get around is you look like a t**t wearing them.

Seen a few with them in Birmingham. I'd get a pair myself if I could find them in John Lewis.

I use this with my Ultimate Ear pro's it works great! Even has a mic for phone calls.

Thanks, worth checking out for sure. Although I'm not sure what 'low-latency' means. I need ZERO latency, since I use the Pro Metronome app on my iPhone. The visual metronome from the app needs to sync with the sound of the click, and not be out by a nano second. Last time I attempted to use it via Airplay wirelessly, it was unusable because of the latency delay.

It has already begun.

Motorola stopped making Android Wear watches.

So did Asus.

Pebble is gone.

Are there any other corpses out there? I think there are more companies not selling smartwatches anymore than those who are.

But I'm not worried about Apple Watch. Apple believes in it... it makes a profit... and it sells more than every other smartwatch (those that are still on the market)

I can't imagine a situation where Apple cancels the Apple Watch.

They haven't cancelled the iPod yet.

And when was the last time you heard anyone say the words "MP3 player market" ?

:D

Agreed. Never will be cancelled, but clearly Apple's weakest attempt to "reinvent" an existing market.

Well, maybe that award goes to the Homepod....where they literally said they were "reinventing" home music.

Delusional bunch at the helm today.

Except for the large amount of people that can't wear them because of their uncomfortable design. If they eventually offer different designs, it could be huge.

Apple stock price is CRASHING...no mention of this talking about big profits with these items....down big time for two days.

Each to their own mate. You'd be brave wearing them around Brum. I certainly wouldn't wear them in Leeds, Manchester or anywhere else in the north for that matter.

I was one of the lucky ones who got Airpods very early, so early that I was even able to apply student discount to it (which then got removed, not sure if it returned). Sadly, like the normal earpods, they are too loose/fall out :(, such a shame. Now I use PB3 which are great, but would love something without wires.

uh... PowerBeats3 wireless have the same W1 chip as the AirPods and cost $200 (No charging case included).
You're giving me another Apple product to compare to...

It's a Bluetooth 4.2 chip afaik, and one they designed themselves.

I did some digging and they do stick a lot else in those things, including 2 accelerometers for some reason, a mic and what have you. Any idea what they're using the accelerometers for?

It make sense. The watch is sort of expensive. I know some ppl will argue that the price of the watch is in line with other watches. But most ppl will view it as an expensive toy. If they want fitness or something along those lines. They will buy something cheaper for their needs. And then you have to figure the cost of upgrading the watch every year or two. It may make some ppl hesitant to invest in a watch where they may not be able to do much with.
After looking at semi-smart fitbits (calendar reminders), I found that my Apple watch at $200 (often on sale) were actually the same price, a little more (pebble) or cheaper (samsung). I don't upgrade often so I hope I get at least 3-4 years from my watch before apple cuts me off by forcing upgrades that break stuff or leave other things behind.

You're forgetting there are people (like myself), that actually like watches. They're trying to strike a balance between fashion and function. While the concept you posted does look nice....it's more function over fashion. To each their own. But I'm sure Apple didn't want the watch to just be a fitness band.

I can agree with that. It would be nice if they could do two versions, but probably overkill for them (fitness band and a smart watch).

Any idea what they're using the accelerometers for?

Accelerometers are used to sense tapping and position. Combined with the ambient light sensor, the AirPods pause/disable when you take them out of your ear. I also believe that info can get sent back to the source device (phone, watch, etc) for basic skeletal tracking, but it's been untapped.

I could see an Apple Watch Nano, eventually.

Which version of the watch did you get? I haven’t seen the new ones that cheap unless it was used like on eBay.

I'm hoping Apple comes up with something in the eye wear department.
In my youth it wasn't something I'd care about, but now I'm 48 and my eye sight has gone I find I spend all day wearing reading glasses to be able to see the screen I work on, my iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.
I recently saw Vue's smart glasses and thought they'd be a good addition to the Apple product line up.
Don't care about anything too fancy, just easy to use, comfortable with decent sound.
Vue glasses look cool.

plus, Airpods works with any bluetooth phone or device, while Watch is meant to paired with iPhone only.
True but Apple Watch will be iPhone independent very soon so I wouldn't count that as a big factor. In fact, many customers might only buy Apple Watch and AirPods without any iPhone in the future.
[doublepost=1498671725][/doublepost]
Besides telling time, what good is an iWatch without an accompanying iPhone? I would not call an iWatch a platform until all of its functionality (alerts, messages, email, tracking, phone calls, ect...) can be accomplished without another device.
Apple Watch does all those things for me without the phone because I'm surrounded by WiFi at work and home all day. When I am out I lose functionality if I don't bring my phone but Apple Watch will soon include 4G for true iPhone independence. I'm envisioning a day in the near future when Apple customers will purchase an Apple Watch and AirPods without even considering an iPhone. Considering that iPhone sales are peaking, Apple needs to seriously address this possibility.

“A smart watch for most of us is pointless” sounds more like a projection of you not liking something than having any real facts.

I own 2. I can like something and be realistic about the situation

I'm not oblivious to the fact, on daily commute in busy London, very very very few people have a smart watch. It's rare, be it android or apple

Feel free to provide any evidence to the contrary, sounds more of a projection of you likening something actually.

And you if ignored my pricing point. :)

I ignored your price point because you didn’t have one. You showed a product that does less for cheaper, hardly a good measure. And your anecdotal information about not seeing Apple Watches is irrelevant. I don’t see iPhones much around where I live, but you don’t see me arguing they’re not selling well.

I predict AirPods sales will be larger than Mac sales... Creative Pros are now abandoning Apple in favor of Adobe running on cheaper Windows boxes... 9 out of the last 10 large agencies I have freelanced for in the NYC area have switched to PC.

They shot themselves so badly with the ill-conceived "trash can". The form-factor is one debate, but letting it stagnate for so long without even regular speed bumps to keep the proc/ram up to date is idiotic.

I find not incredibly useful and couldn't be without either. I used to use the EarPods as they were comfortable and worked with all my Apple devices. Now I use the AirPods and I don't think I could go back to using wired earphones now.

The Apple Watch I use as an activity tracker, to receive my notifications and to make payments in the store. To quote Rene Ritchie from imore using my iPhone for Apple Pay just makes me feel like an animal!

It's okay, the will soon switch back to Mac when Apple releases the new Mac Pro, for only $7599!

I've only ever seen 2 people wearing AirPods and I commute into London everyday. However I see the Apple Watch every day and I live outside of London.

I think AirPods will increase in popularity overtime especially as going forward new iPhones will not have a headphone jack.

Placed an order on June 6th still no movement. Seems Apple really is underpricing these and not making many to keep overhead down. I own an iPhone 6+s and a version 1 watch, and if they were more $$ I wouldn't have placed an order. Guess I'm gonna wait at least a Month if not the whole 6 weeks. Delivery Date still says July 26.

in which reality distortion field are smart watches selling well? That's right yours....keep the dream alive mate. And when I says yours, it's just the Apple Watch....

Lol....yeah a minor city like London is not a good indication , especially in a poor area like Liverpool Street.....plenty of iPhones champ, that backup iPhone sales......way to miss a point...

Crashing lol, it’s called a correction! I’ve owned for years best investment I’ve ever made. Some sell off to take profits of course. That’s how it’s played.

I've had my AirPods for about two weeks now and really like them. Travelled across part of Europe with them and they've been great. Very comfortable, secure and rock solid connection with good battery life. Very happy with my purchase but I have two suggestions:

Different colour options: Would love Space Grey AirPods to match my MacBook and iPhone, would also be less noticeable when they are in my ears.

A touch sensor that would let me 'stroke' the volume up or down on the stick bit. Would really make these absolutely perfect.
