in which reality distortion field are smart watches selling well? That's right yours....keep the dream alive mate. And when I says yours, it's just the Apple Watch....

Lol....yeah a minor city like London is not a good indication , especially in a poor area like Liverpool Street.....plenty of iPhones champ, that backup iPhone sales......way to miss a point...
But there are lots of Apple watches in and awoken London. I see them every day on my commute to work. Heck I went to a conference today in Kent and I saw someone wearing an Apple Watch there.

Cybart said a strong case could have been made for Apple to price AirPods at $249, or even $299. By selling them for $159

This is an obscene amount of money for headphones that have strong competitors with lower prices. I either live in a bubble where I can't understand why so many people would buy this, or this analyst is dead wrong.

Apple says it’s selling well.

And I repeat: what you see is irrelevant. What I see is irrelevant. Your firsthand experience doesn’t mean anything. Period. Stop pretending “but I don’t see many of X” means anything beyond you not seeing something.

... for headphones that have strong competitors with lower prices.
I think that's debatable. A few posts in this thread have compared the competition (either specs or actual trials). Price, however, isn't something many (actual) competitors have as an advantage over AirPods. At $159, they're one of the least expensive set of true-wireless headphones.

They did an incredible job with the Airpods.

However, over the next few years, I expect Apple to further integrate functionality between Airpods and the Apple Watch, potentially changing the sales figures on each through driving complimentary sales.

The apple watch could make a great remote control for the airpods

You can already control the AirPods from the Apple Watch, the new tap settings also seem to work with no connection to an iPhone.
Although Siri on the AirPods doesn’t seem to work when connected to the watch only.

IMO the most underrated benefit of airpods is using them as a "bluetooth headset" for phone calls.
They deliver sound comparable to wired mikes which makes a huge difference on "HD Voice" (VoLTE) calls unlike most bluetooth devices out there that still use low-quality bluetooth HFP.
That has nothing to do with this story per-se. Just my $0.015

Ever thought of some independent analytical thinking ? Or do you just do with what apple markerting tells you? We are done. Enjoy your day.

Despite selling for $159, considerably less than the Apple Watch at between $269 and $1,499, longtime Apple analyst turned venture capitalist Gene Munster believes AirPods will be "bigger than the Apple Watch" over the next decade.

airpods-apple-watch-duo.jpg

Munster predicts that AirPods will contribute "about the same amount of revenue" to Apple's pocket as the Apple Watch by the company's 2022 fiscal year. He also predicts that AirPods will have an average price of $200 by then, as the product shifts towards what he calls "augmented audio."Apple doesn't disclose AirPods or Apple Watch sales in its quarterly earnings results. Both products are instead grouped into its "Other Products" category, alongside sales of iPods, Apple TVs, Beats products, and accessories. Any revenue or sales numbers that circulate around are purely estimates.

Apple reported $2.87 billion revenue from "Other Products" last quarter, a 31 percent increase from $2.18 billion in the year-ago quarter.

Early last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the response to AirPods has been "great," with the wireless earphones remaining hard to come by.

"Demand for AirPods significantly exceeds supply, and growth in Beats products has also been very strong," said Cook. "In fact, when we combine Apple Watch, AirPods, and Beats headphones, our revenues from wearable products in the last four quarters was the size of a Fortune 500 company."

Despite launching over six months ago, AirPods continue to have a 6-week shipping estimate for orders placed on Apple's website. Some third-party resellers have occasionally had them in stock with earlier delivery.

Apple analyst Neil Cybart recently said Apple is "underpricing" the Apple Watch and AirPods in an effort to bring new users into its ecosystem. He said this pricing strategy was "unimaginable" ten years ago, when Apple was often accused of pricing products artificially high--aka the so-called "Apple Tax."

Cybart said a strong case could have been made for Apple to price AirPods at $249, or even $299. By selling them for $159, he thinks Apple has "removed all available oxygen from the wireless headphone space," and forced other wireless headphone makers to cut their own prices in order to remain competitive.

AirPods have been well received by early adopters, achieving a 98 percent customer satisfaction rate in a recent survey conducted by Experian and market research firm Creative Strategies.

AirPod is the best Apple innovation after iPhone and the best wireless Bluetooth earphones. Love AirPods paired with my beautiful eye catching and attention getter product red iphone which white front bezel matches nicely with beautiful white AirPods.

I've only ever seen 2 people wearing AirPods and I commute into London everyday. However I see the Apple Watch every day and I live outside of London.

I think AirPods will increase in popularity overtime especially as going forward new iPhones will not have a headphone jack.

I think the vast majority of iPhone buyers will just use the ones that came in the box and plug them into the lightning port, or if they aren't good enough they'll choose some other wireless headphones - perhaps Beats. I really can't see the airpods taking on as there are better wireless headphones that cost less and aren't as easy to loose.

A quick search of the Internet shows ear bud headphones of this type run from $140 to $250.
While I wouldn't pay that much for wireless earbud headphones Apple's AirPods are actually positioned at the bottom of this market price wise.

I just don't see any weight to this argument - at least not more than confirmation bias. And Beats? Any Wireless Beats (that aren't refurbished or old) are all more expensive than AirPods. People who spend $299 on a pair of Beats don't see AirPods as expensive. And there's already an explosion of accessories to customize how you wear AirPods:

Even getting one of each of those with a pair of AirPods would be less than some other wireless earbuds on the market.

I can spend 140$ on a pair of new Powerbeats 3 right now.

New? Not likely. Either 3rd party seller, a good chinese fake, but you're not talking about retail price so why not consider that I paid less than $120 for my AirPods? PB3 retail for $199

Walmart and Best Buy both have PB3 at $160+. Not wireless in the same sense as AirPods. You're probably better off getting BeatsX for $149, which is similarly not completely wireless. Might be able to find a deal on them too.

People really don’t care what retailer sells them the product. And being complete wireless is great until you realize it comes with headphones that can’t block out any sound at all.

Have fun damaging your ears because you have to turn them up to hear the music. And yes, I did buy a pair when they came out before realizing I couldn’t hear the podcasts over the wind when I rode a bike.

I have over 3000 miles on my bike with my AirPods since December. Absolutely love them. Great for listening to music while still having the ability to hear your surroundings. Haven't had one fall out yet.

People certainly care when they think they're buying authentic "Beats" but ends up being a good Chinese fake that falls apart in 6 months. It literally happens all the time, because people are too quick to buy a 'deal' from a 3rd party. Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, NewEgg, and basically everyone else that has a marketplace, has to deal with this all the time. I prefer to buy expensive lifestyle products and electronics from reputable dealers (with actual customer service). Like I said, I paid $120 for my AirPods from Best Buy.

Then you missed my point in the post you replied to, with numerous links to products designed enhance your use beyond the standard packaging based on your needs, which combined still cost less than some of the competition. If you want hooks, or wings, or a strap, or in-ear cover, there are so many options.

They only ever fell out of my ears when I put on earmuffs.

I didn’t miss the point. I just don’t think I should have to pay 120$ for AirPods and then additional money to make it as good as my PB3 (which is 100$ right now in black on Amazon from a third party seller and it’s a genuine one since I bought it at 150 months back).

If they are shaped like the ones that comes in the iPhone box I'm out of luck. Those do not fit my ears and constantly fall out.

Theyre actually shaped slightly differently - regular apple headphones fall out of my ears, but the airport have more of a hook design and they stay in place even for running.

Ask to try them on in an apple store - they have pairs set aside for this.

Big selling point is the case they come in that charges them, that and they pair better than any other Bluetooth headphones.

Gestures with WatchOS 4 will be amazing as well.
