Wow, looks like people are a little mad after Apple didn't release the iTeleport yesterday. But seriously, I'm happy you guys are hating on the iPhone; easier for me to get and I don't think the Apple stock will suffer if a few MR users aren't going to get one.

3G in the USA is laughable and it drains the battery on devices like no other (my roommates BlackJack had to be recharged twice a day until he shut it off... now he gets up to 2-3 days).

Not so. The Blackjack SHIPS with 2 batteries. Samsung knows the device is crap. The other Cingular(at&t) 3G devices do much better. And the rollout is not as sparse as people on these forums make it out to be.

...and speaking of ebay....I'm planning on buying a couple of iPhones and putting them on ebay. My questions are....how can I do this being that I have to sign a 2 year contract? Do I cancel the contract shortly thereafter? Then sell them on ebay and make some profit? I'm not sure how to do this and make some cash and also in turn help some folks out who couldn't get an iPhone? Stupid questions? Maybe, but I am curious.....

you can eff off and not try and make money off of creating your own false demand for a product and let people buy them at the regular price like a nice human being. i hate this type of profit-mongering. scalpers should be strung up.

i'd think just about every palm, rim, htc, mid to high-end nokia, as well as plenty of sony- and motophones.

My old Treo had a lot of that---usable QWERTY keyboard (I could get some writing done in a grocery line), some kind of chat, I think it was IM--at least it was instantaneous--great third party support (it was a Palm phone), a pretty good Web browser. No 3G, though.

is it me or does it seem like everyone here is confusing java with javascript? iphone supports javascript...i can't think of a single site i use (besides a cms for one of my clients) that uses java. most sites use some form of javascript though.

Current cinguar users left in the cold?

Sorry if i go off topic here, im new to this site so i cant make my own posts yet. I too am highly amped to get this device, but as I keep talking to customer service reps from cingular/apple reps about just buying hardware because im already a cingular customer and everyone keeps telling me the same thing :

"We dont know if you can just buy the hardware."

And now im reading online that cingular is confirming that you need to get a 2 year contract the get the phone.... should i start crying now?

LOL. Ya, I'm amazed at the negatives on this news. Too bad for the haters though, since they'll never have an iPhone, unless they go back on their word and admit to being fanboys.

I don't hate the iPhone. I'm just disappointed that the WWDC keynote was a rerun and I'm taking my anger out on the iPhone.

It's called capitalism, jackass. Supply and demand. Remember economics in high school? If I have to wait in line for "x" amount of hours saving someone the grief, which I think is part of the fun, by the way, I should be able to make a small profit if I feel so inclined. It's my time....it "ain't" free......Sorry you don't agree, but, I don't make the rules, I just follow 'em.

Why post an image of the email when it is available on Apple's site since this morning:

Here's a screen capture of the e-mail:

Apple is fantastic; but, to me at least, I can't see the decision to have the phone available on the last day of June at 6:00 p.m. made in the Board Room way back in January. All we were sure of was "June." Did they fine tune it according to web discussion? Or am I nuts? ;)

When they got FCC cert in mid-may, and the hype was so big, they needed the time to try to get ample supply to meet initial demand.

They also wanted to have it be something of an event, the 6pm and 11pm news can carry it (and show people with their phones in-hand), it will discourage people from trying to 'camp out' at :apple: Stores (many inside malls).

Even though they are not responsible for those people that would camp out overnight, it would be bad PR if there was some sort of 'problem' (people running to the apple store in the mall and trampling each other to be the first outside the doors like some sort of Who concert in ohio)..

Also, if it is 6pm local time in each time zone - that staggers the demand on their systems for activating, at least slightly - by the time they sell in the west coast the east coast will be sold out... I mean stores will be closing.

In other news... I read someone whining about having to have an itunes account - but I think the iTunes account is going to feed data to at&t's system upon your 'authorization' and that will activate the thing on their network - or there will be interaction (SOAP) between their servers so that Apple can easily sell them in their stores without having access to at&t internal systems. So - I think the iTunes account is going to make the sign-up much quicker.

Also, furthering my conviction that :apple: knows what they are doing. The Safari 3 Beta, and the speed - they took it to heart that they had to get that browser to work fast on this device - talk about optimization - and all of that will make it a much better experience on a mobile processor. http://www.dealminded.com/user/jeff/45/

Okay, I'm set. Like who doesn't have an iTunes account. I enjoys purchasing my music on iTunes. Are you kidding me $.99 for a song, instead of spending $15 for a CD with a couple of decent songs on it?

My roommate actually has an iTunes gift card he cant use because he does not want to sign up. Some people dont have accounts.

But... as Steve keeps saying, the iPhone has a real browser and with it you can surf the real internet... just without flash and java then?

That's my huge question...does it have Flash or can I download Flash 9 to it? That's the only good thing about the Nokia N800. It had Flash 7, so I could watch You Tube on it.

I guess my roommate got screwed then. I think he got his Blackjack immediately after it was launched and his only came with one battery, before Samsung acknowledged that the battery life on it was poor.

I waited for the wii and ps3 (selling my spot both times) to buy my 360. Have fun!

I'm starting to think the same way too.

Seriously, you'll know you hit a Java page when you see a picture of a coffee mug and Sun's java logo. How many pages do you guys go to that use Java?

Now Javascript is everywhere and the iPhone supports that. But as far as I know, the only two times I've run into Java the past few years has been Facebook's photo upload manager and an NES emulator site that let you play NES games online using Java.

Again, flash and youtube are different things. Steve says no on flash, yes on youtube.
