I realize I likely won't have the opportunity to pre-order on day one if I'm working. Which means, I will likely be pushed way back to receive my new iPhone, which who knows how long that will take. But fortunately I'm content with my 7+.

Hopefully I'll be off that day or on a late shift (nurse). If not I may try and swap with one of my colleagues. Otherwise I'll have to wait.

Pre-orders are usually somewhere around the second week of September. So I will try to plan accordingly. But this is going to be a huge year.

Yes I could try and take annual leave in advance but in the past few years Apple have shifted the date of their keynote around a bit.

I'm going to wait for the iPhone 8. The S8+ looks amazing but I know even now that I prefer the iPhone as my daily driver. I already have an Apple Watch, iPad, mac, 2 Apple TVs and airpods. I don't want to change any of these devices for android equivalents. I thought about getting the S8+ and using it as a secondary device but I tried that last year with the S7 edge. It was a great phone but I just didn't really have a need for it as i just used my 6S+ all the time. I ended up selling the S7 edge after a few weeks. Deep down as great as the S8+ is I know it will suffer the same fate as the S7 edge did last year which is why I won't buy it.

Of course you have all those, maybe it's easier without thinking to stay put. But if you look at it deeper, it is not that difficult. Now most newer TVs comes with android/tizen and wifi (which can run your favorite netflix). You can cast/stream directly to any TVs from any Android phones without needing something apple tv. Basically your iphone/ipad is stucked only to your home setup. I see people using a mac with windows nowadays anyway for inter-operability sake.

The trend is that people will forsake the tablet for just a all-in-one-device. S8 is way more capable as a all-in-one device than iphone since it is not locked down. It has standard file transfer capability (bt/wifi direct/dlna), file-system, usb-otg, mouse/kb support and so on. with a dock it can also act like your personal desktop replacement.

I have iPad's, 2016 MacBook Pro and AirPods.
My S8 is having a very good time among my Apple devices.
For example; my Airpods are working perfectly fine with my S8.

I use BlueMail from the Play Store, all my iCloud email sync 100% fine between my S8, Macbook and iPads.

All my photo's that I shoot with my S8 are syncing to my iPad's and Macbook

I'm sure the iPhone 8 will be worth the wait

I thought it was the other way around. Anyhow I guess we all experience things differently.
It is lol

There's no way anybody can convince me that iPhones slow down over time quicker than android devices. Samsung phones generally do slow down far too quick for my liking. Even after 3-4 months my S7 edge slowed down

Is that a deal breaker? Not really

Well that was certainly my experience with the 6. My Android devices didn't do as badly as it. Now the 7 Plus I have has 3GB of RAM where the 6 was constrained so maybe it won't slow down. It's blazing fast on iOS 10 as of now

My computing needs are very minimal these days so an iPhone is perfectly fine. I barely use my MacBook. A few years ago my needs were greater, which is when I used android.

Yes you are correct I'm the type to only change if something is broken or no longer working. Had my iPhone 4 not been stolen I would never had tried android out.

Admittedly after using Samsung phones for 2.5 years I was a little hesitant to come back to Apple. It was only when the iPhone 6+ came out with a bigger, higher resolution display, good enough battery life to not need a removable battery and enough internal storage to negate the need for a SD card that I was willing to consider coming back to Apple. I also liked the look of the Apple Watch and was not interested in android wear or the gear watches. Additionally, I had not had much success with android tablets and at that time the selection of TV shows was lacking in the play store in the U.K. So all of these reasons combined were enough to push me back to Apple. I'm quite happy with my iPhone now so I don't see the point in changing. Also some of the things on the S8 will be coming to the iPhone 8. It won't have a 6.3 inch display but oh well.

Well the 6 plus was a bit of a lemon in that it was doomed from the start because it only had 1GB of ram. It was ok for the first year but afterwards it couldn't keep up with newer versions of iOS. However I would say the 6 plus was an exception and not the rule.

Putting this aside, common sense said it is very difficult to put your customer interest first when you customer is fiercely competing with you. Of course, samsung would hold back something so iphone would not usurp its S8 and esp the Note 8 when its launch coincided with Iphone 8/7s/or whatever.
There is no way you if I could know the deal between Apple and any company. I understand these are opinions and while you have your gut feeling, so do I.

What I do know is that no phone apart from Galaxies have been winning Displaymate awards for years.

Galaxy S7 Edge is the only OLED Android phone at the top. The rest OLED Androids are at the bottom and they all use Samsung OLEDs
Iphone 7 still has the most accurate display over the s7.

Actually if Microsoft can get it right, their devices will be better than android. But all in one Is an illusion, you pick how to live with the worst compromises.

There is also the fact that Apple devices tend to slow down over time while the S8 will retain its speed for longer
my 5s and 6s are running faster on ios 10, which means that's not a fact. But then there's the fact that Samsung notoriously seems to slowdown over time.

That is the problem with iPhone. It is all under specced. 6 plus is the only other iPhone I used for substantial period (~1 month) and I remembered the browser tabs keep reloading. Maybe by the time of iOS 11 ip7 will be struggling.

Also, iPhone storage can also be depleted easily not just by update image but also the equivalent app/game on iOS has a much bigger size than on Android. Not sure why.

For me, I find extremely restrictive using iPhone. One very important function for me is the USB host. I take a lot of videos esp on outings/holidays. With Android, I can easily plug in my portable ssd drive directly to phone and move files out to free internal space .

Another useful one is screen mirroring/stream to any smart TV directly without needing any other intermediary devices.

I also can't do without support for file system and ability to create shortcuts. I can map to any of my network shared drives (as well as cloud storages) and copy/move files back and forth.

The above is the very basic that most devices support except for idevices. Some iPhone fans may even say all the above are very techy and only the very few needed those functions.

It's a phone, not a child. Buy it, use it, if you like it keep it, if you don't sell it. Agonizing over a commodity is quite silly.

you must be a lot of fun at parties  This is a message board about technology where people come to discuss purchase making decisions get over yourself.

So the iPhone 7 beating (clobbering) the other competitors is under specced? Apple designs the best and fastest mobile socs and iOS fits like a glove to apples hardware.

In my own experience I find android clunky to use with the hardware not being as good as apples.

But as they say ymmv.

I think the compiler code Apple uses, and control over what is used by developers, says more than the hardware or apps and iOS. We use to have really sloppy bad code in our mainframes. So they'd buy more powerful systems. I'm sure we've come along way since then.

My 6S+ was terrible experience. Got a refund usher unit later when iOS 10 was out and night and day. iOS 9 was one problem, and battery sure seemed bad. Apps couldn't run if they wanted and impossible where to lay blame.

Stay away from the edge, the bleeding edge, so you don't fall.

Under spec-ed in terms of RAM, is that better? :p

If I am not mistaken, iphone is still using older generation type RAM. Also 4G speed is behind as well. Not to mentioned 2010-ish screen resolution (for non-plus version)

There may be a difference of opinion as to which Samsung panel is going to be used but its a fact that Samsung is the supplier

Iphone 7 still has the most accurate display over the s7.
Thats all history. The iPhone 7 scraped by the S7 in color accuracy by a thin margin. The S8 display is much much improved over the S7 Edge so its currently the display king. I look forward to seeing who wins between iPhone 8 OLED and Note 8 later this year.

ctually if Microsoft can get it right, their devices will be better than android. But all in one Is an illusion, you pick how to live with the worst compromises.
Microsoft definitely did something right as Apple followed their "converged toaster and refrigerator model" after the latter mocked them for it

My 6 is not running fine as was my iPad Mini. THEY ARE SLOW.HENCE A FACT

So basically having the 6s not to mention the 7 win in most benchmarks. Getting over 200+ down for lte and having the 7 have better color accuracy than the s7 is not my idea of an under-specced phone.

I wouldn't say that's true. The 7 plus has 3G of ram and that is sufficient to run iOS. Even 2GB of ram is sufficient. The iPhone is smoother than say a Samsung phone with 4GB of ram.

They are probably one of many suppliers.

It's still very much the truth, "old technology" beating "new technology".

My 6 is not running slow, hence not a fact.

Page thrashing vm? Compensated for with UFS 2 and higher I/O?

Throttling modems so that an Intel and Qualcomm operate same, even if one is capable of better, and the network to handle it.

Keeping only 4 background apps a give and putting others into sleep state probably helps. I use to, on the 5s and 6s+ (1st one I bought) _constantly_ turn WiFi of / on along with push apps up (close) to free up system and get it "purring" smoothly again. I like my cats to run like a jag, not a Ford - a Stingray will do, too ;))

They are probably one of many suppliers.
http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/04/apple-iphone-8-oled-display-samsung.html

"Nikkei Asian Review quoted IHS Markit analyst David Hsieh as saying that the order for 70 million units of OLED panels is in line with his expectations. He added that Samsung is expecting to produce as many as 95 million units for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations. Hsieh also said Samsung is likely to be the sole supplier."

It's still very much the truth, "old technology" beating "new technology".
That old technology was destroying the iPhone LCD in almost every display metric and the only reason it lost by a hair in the accuracy test was because Android does not support wide color. Even Apple knows this which is why iPhone OLED is now a reality. The LCD iPhones are on life support till yield on OLED stabilisies

As Apple is doing something right as well.
Surface sales are on the up. iPad sales are down

Its the same speed as on iOS 8?

Wish we could get the edge-to-edge screen in the iPhone 8...it's a beautiful screen that would make the next iPhone almost perfect.

I am due for a hardware upgrade, and so I went to the store to look at the S8. The phone is definitely very nice, looks like a slab of black glass. Then I started playing with Android...

Went home, ordered an iPhone 7 in red and it arrived yesterday. I'm so happy with iOS. I also like the small size of the 7 which fits nicely in my pocket.

Notice the words "is likely", meaning that no matter how much spin is out in this nobody really knows. Hopefully pink screen is in the past, if any of these rumors are true.

Losing is losing. As I said it doesn't change the premise "old tech" beating "supposedly new tech".

Surface sales are on the up. iPad sales are down
iPad sales demolish surface sales

Its the same speed as on iOS 8?
Faster as the benchmarks have already proved iOS 9 is faster than iOS 8.
