peesonally, I think it is a better idea to get an upgraded phone in October next year. Most people will get this phone in January or February 2018 and in September a newer version will be announced. It will be a more mature product. Too expensive for something that will be obsolete a couple of months later. Had it been available in Sep...a different story

It's ridiculous how people are just taking this as a given and giving up on even trying to get the phone, almost 3 weeks before preorders even begin.

If you actually want an iPhone X, get out there and get your iPhone X! There are going to be millions of them in circulation in November, and everyone here has as good a shot at getting one as anyone. If you're already giving up you probably never really wanted or needed one.

Yes you should buy two iPhone X models to flip this year so that any profits will help subsidize the iPhone XI.

There are any numbers of reasons why some people may prefer to wait for the 2018 phones.

Here are some of mine...see any of these coincide with yours.

1. The ipX is a liitle too large even with the reduced bezels.

2. I want OLED for my next phone.

3. There's a lot of questions surrounding FaceID. I'm not willing to give up the convenience of TouchID just yet.

4. Buying an ip8 when I already have a 6s is counter-intuitive.

I would be be giving up the convenience of the 3.5mm jack and being able to listen to music while I charge the phone (I do this nearly every day).

Add to this that the 128gb model is now gone. So I'd have to shell out $850 (for a 256gb ip8) to replace my 128gb 6s.

That is a huge amount of money for wireless charging, stereo speakers, and upgraded CPU and cameras.

Finally, when you throw in that the ip8 is the same basic design as the previous 3 iPhones (albeit now with a glass back)...I'm not enthused about buying it.

I could add to this list, but I think you get the idea...I will buy a new iPhone when Apple does something worth the cost of what they are charging for it.

Work harder Apple.

The ipX doesn't do a thing for me and the features you offer in the ip8 aren't enough for me to upgrade.

Hope they figure out how to put Touch ID under the screen and remove that screen notch that's missing on top.
I'd like to see what the next iPhone will bring. I'm not interested at all on the current iPhone x.

Gotta get over this one. Touch ID is not going to be making a come back and the notch will likely be here for at least a few versions.

The notch wouldn’t magically disappear because TouchID is under the display. You still need somewhere to house the front facing camera, proximity sensor, mic, and ear piece.

What if people will be able to get them in November/December?

& what if next years update is also delayed?

& what if next years update costs more than what you're budgeting for at that time?

Am I assuming too many things? Well that makes two of us.

Let's be honest, people are putting a lot of hope/expectation on the X. They're trying to justify waiting another year on this new form factor, possibly due to a massive update on next years model.

Unless you're holding out for a Plus-sized X, the massive update is this year.

& banking of the updates you're hoping for in 2018 with no real assurance they'll happen, whilst missing out on the biggest iPhone update in years....well, hope those updates come.

The 3 reasons I can understand people holding off are for hoping prices will come down, that there's a Plus sized X variant & that they won't enjoy the X for more than 10 months before an update is released.

But, they're all assumptions....good luck. :D

Hope they figure out how to put Touch ID under the screen and remove that screen notch that's missing on top.

I notice you've expressed this view many times.

What makes you think having Touch ID under the screen (if that happens) will also mean cameras, sensors etc. are hidden under there?

The latter is at least a couple of generations off. & for that period of time, you'll always have an area without a usable screen.

In response to what I highlighted in bold text.

iPhone X won’t be obsolete “months later” as you’ve stated. The iPhone X won’t be obsolete until it’s not officially supported with software. Which won’t happen for 4-5 years from now.

On the one hand, I agree. Waiting gets you a better phone.

On the other hand, waiting gets you a better phone. Why buy the X-2 when you could wait and get the even better X-3?

I'm not losing hope yet.
Hope they figure out how to enter it under the screen.

Touch ID under the display Is highly unlikely for Apples future. It's not a matter of Apple figuring it out or putting the touch ID under the display. It's already been confirmed by Craig Federighi that touch ID was Plan B, when Apple was able to successfully incorporate Face ID, they abandoned Touch ID all together. They were originally experimenting with touch ID under the display. The idea that Face ID with some rush job was complete nonsense. Touch ID was never Apples main goal with the future of security.

Would someone please explain to me the obsession some people have with this notch? Would you rather just have a straight bezel at the top?

How do you know you will be able to get an iPhone X 2nd Gen in September 2018?
