It's ridiculous how people are just taking this as a given and giving up on even trying to get the phone, almost 3 weeks before preorders even begin.

If you actually want an iPhone X, get out there and get your iPhone X! There are going to be millions of them in circulation in November, and everyone here has as good a shot at getting one as anyone. If you're already giving up you probably never really wanted or needed one.

Don't encourage people lol! Even though I do agree with you 😉

How do you know you will be able to get an iPhone X 2nd Gen in September 2018?

Exactly!

In response to what I highlighted in bold text.

iPhone X won’t be obsolete “months later” as you’ve stated. The iPhone X won’t be obsolete until it’s not officially supported with software. Which won’t happen for 4-5 years from now.
Many-many people purchase a new phone every year. Just read comments🙂
[doublepost=1507643763][/doublepost]Another point, but maybe this is just me...face ID is a concern for me. I would just love to stick to touch id, it works awesome!

The 1st gen iPhone and iPad are perfect examples of why you wait until the 2nd generation.

Very good point.

For the iPad...1st gen was weak. Then lightning struck again with the 1st gen iPad Pro and the paltry storage max of 128gb. Quickly rectified by the 256gb model when they intro'd the Pro 9.7 less than a year later.

Boy, were some 12.9" buyers ticked off w/Apple! LOL... 😀 😀 😀

I'm content with waiting to see what 2018 brings...anybody that wants to throw $$$ Apple's way this year is more than welcome to. 🙂

I’m not going to wait for what’s around the corner, I want an iPhone X i will pre-order an iPhone X on the 27th, if I want next years iPhone X or whatever they decide to call it I will buy it. Life is too short to be spending it waiting for what’s around the corner.

Who is to know that the iPhone X is not just a one off to celebrate the tenth anniversary and there will not be an update to it next year.

Because Tim Cook said on stage that it’s the future of iPhone, also they wouldn’t of invested so much time and effort into it for it to be just a one off. It’s also been mentioned that Apple are working on a bigger 6”4 iPhone for next year.

Exactly, I learned this the hard way with vehicles.

But, if I can pre order one, I'm leaning towards doing it. Now will I sell it if I don't like, that's a possibility. Having had a edge to edge screen before, I can see why those that have only used iPhones are excited. Folks were pretty excited about the 6+ as well.

I was thinking about waiting on a Red version as well.

I didnt say the notch and touch ID is related to one another.
I would just like to see the touch ID back and then the notch removed and the OLED screen fully symmetrical to start right under the ear piece, camera and other sensors.

The notch wouldn’t magically disappear because TouchID is under the display. You still need somewhere to house the front facing camera, proximity sensor, mic, and ear piece.
[doublepost=1507651191][/doublepost]Yes, I would rather have a bezel up there to include the needed hardware up there than a cut out OLED screen with the sides sticking up like that.
That thing just sucks IMO.

Would someone please explain to me the obsession some people have with this notch? Would you rather just have a straight bezel at the top?

peesonally, I think it is a better idea to get an upgraded phone in October next year. Most people will get this phone in January or February 2018 and in September a newer version will be announced. It will be a more mature product. Too expensive for something that will be obsolete a couple of months later. Had it been available in Sep...a different story

Who says the XI or whatever it's called will release next September? We might have a new cycle for November releases, or this is just a special edition and next year we will see some sort of hybrid between the 8 and X.

I would say that if a new hybrid type iphone is released in September, many people including myself would be quite upset.

Wait for 2nd gen.. ProMotion + Passcode lock will make it worth it, if you don't like Face-ID.

Backorder 6-8 weeks
no one will get iphone till 2018

I think its getting harder to justify that practice with the phone prices now exceeding 1,000 dollars.

Thank God for the iPhone upgrade program, New every year and a little help getting your phone on release day. I look forward to the X and then I'll look forward to the X+1.

That's like renting/leasing.
You keep making never ending monthly payments on a cellphone.
Not something I would get myself into.

Yes exactly what it is, like leasing a car and then leasing a new one at the end of the lease.

Works great for me, I like getting new phone every year and I like being among the first to get it.

I just hate the idea of renting/leasing anything.

It's not any different than someone who buys a phone every two years. Only people who keep there phone 3 Plus years make out better.
[doublepost=1507656529][/doublepost]I just see it as a total waste of money but whatever makes you happy 🙂

There are any numbers of reasons why some people may prefer to wait for the 2018 phones.

Here are some of mine...see any of these coincide with yours.

1. The ipX is a liitle too large even with the reduced bezels.

2. I want OLED for my next phone.

3. There's a lot of questions surrounding FaceID. I'm not willing to give up the convenience of TouchID just yet.

4. Buying an ip8 when I already have a 6s is counter-intuitive.

I would be be giving up the convenience of the 3.5mm jack and being able to listen to music while I charge the phone (I do this nearly every day).

Add to this that the 128gb model is now gone. So I'd have to shell out $850 (for a 256gb ip8) to replace my 128gb 6s.

That is a huge amount of money for wireless charging, stereo speakers, and upgraded CPU and cameras.

Finally, when you throw in that the ip8 is the same basic design as the previous 3 iPhones (albeit now with a glass back)...I'm not enthused about buying it.

I could add to this list, but I think you get the idea...I will buy a new iPhone when Apple does something worth the cost of what they are charging for it.

Work harder Apple.

The ipX doesn't do a thing for me and the features you offer in the ip8 aren't enough for me to upgrade.

-- While I agree with much of your assessment, there are significant difference between 6s and X that make it worthwhile for many of us. I'll start by agreeing - I miss the 128gb model and jumping to 256gb but at the value of the gb alone that's only $50 per 64gb a reasonable cost between the base X and the 256gb model. Now add the larger screen the OLED display itself and I think many will agree it's worth the price. It's all where you are in the cycle and the value of a 6s in another year for selling to recover some of your costs.
