Then lastly, call ATT to have them change there MMS settings. I specifically said "Can you change my mms settings so my iPhone will receive MMS just like any other phone instead of the link method".

Given every experience I've had with ATT, I have no confidence that they will have any idea what this means / what to do...

ok so i had to restart two times for the picture icon to show up in my texting window. i tried to send two different pictures and they both failed....i didnt call the att rep yet though since so many people have said its useless and they wont change it but ill try it now and see whats happens.

I called AT&T, and was told it wouldn't work until 'later this summer' by three different reps.

Maybe I'll make a call a day, drive them nuts.

on the phone right now and she put me on a hold, she said ill be happy to assist you.....lets see what happens, came back on and said ill be with you in another 3 to 4 minutes.....hopefully shes really working on it

ok.. I downloaded the file, and then i opened iTunes with my computer connected and clicked OPTION + RESTORE on my iphone, and when I browse to the .ippc file, and I click on it, it will not allow me to click CHOOSE..

You can see here that the file and the CHOOSE button are greyed out.

any insights as to WHY/

Like I said- calling AT&T is vital. Try telling them like I did. If it doesn't work the first time - call again. Insist that they change it. Tell them your friend did it. Not all AT&T reps are asses. Maybe mine was different cause it was buisness?

It will work, you just have to tell them to remove the MMS opt out because you are no longer using iphone.

Got it to work without calling AT&T.

I just used the steps for tethering, entering the wap info, and then restarting the phone.

Kid picture is cute, sorry for my ugly mug, but you get the idea :)

Drag that file out of the tether folder and just drop it on your desktop. Then try through iTunes again, and it should no longer be greyed out.

ok so i restarted and want to know how do i test if it works? everyone around me has iphones so i dont want it to show it not working because it being sent to an iphone without mms. or does that not matter...

ps just tried to send to one around me and still red exclamtion

I dragged it and dropped it only my desktop. Its STILL greyed out!! Not entirely sure what's going on.. Does this have to be a lower version of itunes or something??

Restart your phone after adding settings.

It seems that's buisness costumer care does it no problem but personal costumer care gives you some trouble.

ive tried to send two messages after talking to the rep who said "ok i fixed it, is there anything else?", but i am still getting the error when sending....its to an iphone without mms of course. does that matter?

ohh wow.. I feel like an ass.. COmpletely glanced over that part..

So now, before I do this (because i hate messing around in the terminal) is there a way to reverse this?? What would the "uninstall" be.. and since this is a "restore" will I loose any app data?

Thanks

I just followed the information in the first post and I now have MMS and Tethering working just fine.

Thanks for the great information.

US AT&T is my carrier.

Edit* Go into Settings/Messages and make sure MMS is turned on.

You should be able to find a pre-release iTunes 8.2 online (google around a bit) that you can download that allows carrier file updates. it's an easy way to bypass terminal if you're a bit fearful.

I've run things in the terminal before, I just want to make sure that anything I do can be reversed if something bad happens.. For instance, I do NOT by any means want to loose my visual voicemail

ATT rep said on friday there will be an update through iTunes.

I had one tell me today no earlier then late summer. She cited a memo that she received at 1:34pm...

Apple also told me on sunday that 3.0 would be released at midnight last night...

Lesson learned: Customer service reps know nothing.
