I just followed the information in the first post and I now have MMS and Tethering working just fine.

Thanks for the great information.

US AT&T is my carrier.

Do either you or JasonHiccup have a name of the rep you spoke to? I just tried calling AT&T twice and neither one would do it.

I also am a business customer so I spoke with Business Customer Care but they would not budge no matter what I said.

If you know the reps name I would greatly appreciate it because I could ask for them and get this working. Tethering was a piece of cake. Thanks for all the help. This is the only step I can't get past!!

I didn't. Sorry. Keep trying?

ok so i have restarted and the messages are still not sending. I talk to the rep and the first thing she said after i told her what you said to say....."Did you do the software update?" and i said ok and then said that she needs to put me on hold while she works on it. The hold lastest about 5 minutes....Was she just bs'ing lol?

Have you tried it without calling?

I ran through all the steps from Terminal to entering the WAP settings. Then I immediately soft-booted my iPhone. Upon restart, I opened messages, and had the camera icon. I clicked it, selected a picture, and sent it to a non-iPhone. Then that person sent a test picture back. Both worked great. The message status bar moves fast at first, and then hangs up when it is almost done. About 10-15 seconds later the picture goes through.

The first rep I spoke to said I had to enable it somehow on the phone, which I acted surprised when she told me to go into message settings and asked if I could turn MMS on and I was like yeah I can!! NO way!! Derrr, then I told her that I believe she has to change my account settings on her end and she said yes but she didn't know how so she gave me to someone else who refused. Then asked if she resolved my issue tonight to which I replied, of course not.

I had one tell me today no earlier then late summer. She cited a memo that she received at 1:34pm...

Apple also told me on sunday that 3.0 would be released at midnight last night...

Lesson learned: Customer service reps know nothing.

The rep told me I was the first out of seven he got working. He also said the other phones were iPhones 2g. That's right. The rep thought 2g iPhones were included in the update. So I agree; they know nothing

So does anyone know if there is a way to reverse this?? for instance, when the real MMS comes out? Or will this just be the real MMS?

Also, did anyone loose visual voicemail?

well this sucks balls everything was working fine except mms. now mms and my tethering disappeared when i was testing it out. i went out of the menu then back in and now thethering is now gone. WTF....guess i got too greedy

I didn't lose visual voicemail. And I assume this either is the real MMS or when they have that available there will be an update through iTunes which will negate all that we've done to this point.

Real MMS. Fully integrated with the camera and photo library. Also, an arrow to view the incoming picture in a larger size and save it to your library.

I have fully-functioning visual voicemail as well.

Just noticed something weird. I have tethering working and the MMS enabled (but not working) right now. I just went to send a text to 2 people and it changed from standard text to "group MMS". Then of course it couldn't send the message. I turned MMS off in settings and it worked fine.

Anyone seen this? Any ideas on what to do?

Brian

So I tested it without AT&T helping me, as suggested and now I can receive plain text messages but I can't receive the MMS at all. I don't even receive the link for the picture I sent to my phone. Is this bad?

yea.. when I said "real" i more so meant that public release. I understand that this is just using the MMS function that is already in the operating system..

I just installed it,a nd HOPEFULLY will get the MMS soon.. I am just worried about visual voicemail. i LOVE that feature.

Just looked at what you said. It does indeed say Group MMS at the top of the message with 2 or more recipients. My first text message hung up for 10-15 seconds. This lag time appears to go down some with subsequent messages. Yep, after 3 messages text sends like normal. A picture sends like this too, faster after 3-4 of them.

I guess it just says that because it is truly multimedia in that it can send more than just text.

Try to give it more time to send the message.

This isn't working for me, I also called 611 (business care) and they said AT&T is in the process of upgrading their MMS abilities to allow it to work on the iPhone the best haha, this is my 3rd or 4th try and no luck :(

Yeah... apparently I can't even receive a link to a MMS either now. MMS is enabled (but not working) and I have tethering. I spoke to a very friendly rep who already got two calls on this issue, all of which (including mine) had unlimited family plans. She said she found no MMS block on any of the phones for any of the callers.

She even contacted Apple who instructed her to remove the MMS block. No one can see that a block is apparent.

alright.. I have the picture option.. sending a pic now. its stuck on the last little bit of sending.. have no yet called ATT to have them "release" mms though.. Trying it without it. I am on a "family plan" so it might be slightly different??

what terminal stuff?

where can i get a good att ipcc file

i downloaded the one from the link and its gray and wont let me choose it when i hit option restore

On my account is both my iPhone and my girlfriends LG Shine, which BTW she is upgrading to the 3GS at the end of the month, and I have unlimited messaging on the whole plan and my bill shows no block because she is able to send and receive MMS no problem. However, I am giving up. I'm currently restoring my iPhone to the backup just before I started this, and will re-enable tethering, but leaving the MMS stuff alone, rather have it reset for the official release. Am I going to get the camera icon in text messages after just enabling tethering?
