I was a vehicle mechanic in that era and the Dodge Omni did not have an engine supplied by Mitsubishi, the engine was supplied by Volkswagen a 1.7 liter engine then for the last few years it had a 1.6 liter engine made by Renault. I am thinking you might be a bit confused on this as the Dodge Aries had optional a 2.6 liter engine made supplied by Mitsubishi with a 2.2 base engine made by OMG Chrysler.
Well, you're right. the Omni was a 1980, not a 1986, and it was powered by the 1.6L Mitsubishi 4G32 I4 engine, with a big 66 HP!

am I the only one here who thinks cars shouldn't have mini theater screen in them?

Thats the gas model right? they are all electric now. how many miles?
Yes, the S60 is an internal combustion T5 (the 5 cylinder Turbo version). It has all of 32,000 miles in the 13 years I've owned it. Put a big 500 miles on it last year.

I'm not happy that GM removed CarPlay on new EVs. I wasn't going to buy another one, but because my wife has a bad back and my Bolt EUV had such a stiff suspension I had to do something, and when the local dealership had a good deal to trade for an Equinox EV, I had to bite the bullet. I do miss CarPlay, and I feel that GM could support it in the EVs. It is strictly a financial decision on their part. When it comes down to it though, without GM supporting the product, it cannot be 100% safe to go mucking around in the software that runs the cars of today. The M-M Act needs to be updated to consider the software aspect of modern vehicles. This wasn't an issue or even a forethought when the act was made into law. I can still fault GM for their decision to stop supporting a very popular feature. they still have it for ICE vehicles, for now anyway. Their excuse is that the software they do have is supposed to be better for trip planning and charging along the way. That doesn't help those of us that drive locally 99% of the time.

edit: The only way to be safe after installing an aftermarket software based product is to be able to block any OTA updates from coming into the vehicle until they are tested and deemed safe by the entity that created the aftermarket product. Would you trust them to do it, if they can even do it without any mistakes?
Well considering one of their own dealerships were installing CarPlay I'd say it doesn't actually effect any safety or security aspects of the operation of the vehicle. This is where GM will lose in litigation. Apple can't stop you from jailbreaking an iPhone and they can't void the warranty unless they can prove the software actually damaged the device. Same will go for GM. In court, they would have to prove adding CarPlay would cause a safety/security issue that would render the vehicle dangerous to use. I'm betting they can't prove that, they just want to charge a subscription and collect and sell customers data..

Actually there is no fully electric Volvo S60, just hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

Also, the S60 has recently been discontinued, so the new ES90 is the only sedan, electric or otherwise, currently being made by Volvo and sold in Europe and Americas... (maybe they still sell other sedans in China?)

I have several Chevy trucks for my business, which are tightly integrated with Google. I'm using one for a camping trip this weekend. Within a couple hours of arrival at the campsite, I received about 4 e-mails from Outdoorsy trying to rent me a RV.

To be fair, Google tracks you through your phone, website visits (did you look up campsites on Google Maps?), location aware apps, etc too. The only way you can be reasonably confident it was data from the truck that caused the spam would be if you left your phone and laptop at home.

Not on aftermarket units for older cars.

This unit I purchased on Amazon for my 2017 Volt (which has only wired CarPlay) uses Bluetooth to initiate the connection then switches to WiFi. Works great. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes but GM was caught selling personal driving metrics like speed and braking to Lexus Nexis > insurance companies for a profit. So that isnt exactly apples to apples. More like an abuse of trust for folks who seem tolerant of the already low quality and abuse from that vile company.

I doubt it, but I hope someone from GM is reading this thread. I purchased a used Chevy Volt a couple of months ago and love it. I’m exactly the target market for a future buyer of a full GM BEV. However, I won’t touch one until they bring back CarPlay support.

Dumb executives. My wife cares about CarPlay more than any other feature. Even more than color or design.

Not that we’d ever buy a GM product, but no CarPlay no sale.

For tens of millions CarPlay is price of admission. GM will walk this back eventually.

Honda sells a rebadged version of the Blazer EV using the same infotainment platform, and it has CarPlay/Android Auto enabled because Honda wanted it enabled.

Mary Barra is just a greedy crook who drifts from thing to thing, usually 4-5 years too late.
The Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX aren’t rebadged GM products. They use the same drivetrain and that’s about it.

If Apple can control everything it makes, so does GM! No need to cry here in favour of Apple! Let GM decides what is best for their customers!
While I think GM is incredibly stupid for doing this, I agree 100%. It’s their product, and they have the right to do with it as they want.

It uses a lot more than the drivetrain.

According to Hwang, the frame rails, the floor, the front and rear suspension subframes, pedal box, steering column mounting, the base of the windshield, and firewall are shared with the Blazer EV. the Prologue shares many components with the Blazer EV, including the steering wheel and stalks, climate settings controls, door handles and locks, and window switches. A dashboard mounted 11-inch screen serves as the digital instrument cluster, with a free standing 11.3-inch touchscreen used as an infotainment display. It runs a reskinned version of GM's AndroidAutomotive implementation known as Google Built-in, but in contrast to GM's version, supports wireless Android Auto and CarPlay.

It's also built by GM in one of their Mexican plants.

My relatives went to Mexico City last week and rode around a couple times in BYD EVs and were blown away at the fit, finish and quality of them.

The US Automakers are absolutely cooked if Chinese EVs are ever allowed in.

Their only path to survival is full blown protectionism in perpetuity.
They could ask help to a$$le, they are first class in walled garden & protectionism...

It’s greed pure and simple. They want to sell you a service which CarPlay and Android auto do for free - so they’ll ban them! Not the kind of company I’d ever want to do business with…

Also they’ll data mine and track you so they can sell your personal info to data brokers which - surprise - they already do with the OnStar data!! Did you know that the Insurance companies have full access to your every driving move in an OnStar equipped vehicle?
No reason for carplay or any other $£$@... as usual, it's a game to lock in users with corporate standard... Bluetooth is enough...

GM is pulling an Apple move. Hehehe.

I think Apple will see a lot of this in the future. What goes around turns around.

PS: But don’t worry Apple. In the EU there will be a regulation (if is not already) where infotainment units are interchangeable as long as the interfaces are compatible (there is a standard set of features and protocols in place allowing this units to exchange vehicle data to be displayed and so on).
I hope one day they will learn the lesson... they want to jump on the a$$le wagon as soon as possible, first to adopt playcar and so on... and once they understand they risk, they want to get off...

...it should be better for a supplier to use only standards (bluetooth...) and not third party troian horses...

Hope GM fails. People want CarPlay it is simple as that.

GM is too big to fail, remember when we bailed them out in 2008? American automakers are critical infrastructure and the government will never let them go under.

It's hard to see GM going out of business just because they choose not to offer CarPlay on select vehicles. America is a large country, so we can't extrapolate that everyone will be mad they can't get CarPlay just because a vocal minority on MR is.

Conventional ICE vehicles still outsell EVs by a huge margin and probably will for the foreseeable future. I don't expect EVs to become a commodity until after I'm dead, 50 years from now, if they do at all. The electric grids all need to be upgraded for the additional demand, the range on these vehicles needs to improve, and prices need to come down.

My F150 work truck didn't come with CarPlay and it wasn't a dealbreaker because that's not what I bought it for.

“Safety concerns”. Please don't insult your customers like that. Why don't you say the truth? It all boils down to lock in/profit. But I have news for you GM. Your software stinks and I will never purchase one of your cars with your ingrown junk.
Have you ever heard "Safety concerns" from a$$le?? For example, sideloading is a "Safety concerns"... is that an insult for you too?
