They already lost me as a customer when they followed Ford in deciding to just make big ****-off SUVs and trucks instead of normal sized vehicles, but good on them for reinforcing that choice.

I also get to enjoy the satisfaction of not buying from an “American” car manufacturer that makes most of its fleet in other countries.
I'm pretty proud that my Impala is one of the last ones made in Detroit. But seeing almost NO cars at the Chevy dealership anymore when I go to get any service done is very disappointing. They do still have the Malibu, but they shrunk it down and made it all lame and plasticy, not like the Malibu of 10 or so years ago that looked boxy like a muscle car.

I always found it odd that carplay notifies that you have a message but won’t show you the message. I always want to pickup the phone to see the message.

Not sure what you mean? When you get a message and you tap the message on the CarPlay screen, Siri reads you the message.

So if I’m a rental car company, GM just stopped being an option for me as I want as much flexibility as possible for my customers.

AND, it’s not like the iPhone is going away anytime soon and I would suspect that people are more tied to their phones than their automobile. CarPlay is an absolute decision-caster for me for my cars and has influenced the last three cars our family has purchased. It’s ironic that GM would say that this is for ‘customer safety’ when any thinking person is going to realize that all this will do is incentivize people to handle their iPhones MORE not less if CarPlay is not an option.

Boneheaded is about the only thought that comes to mind.
100%! I recently took a trip to another state and that was one of my first questions for the rental car choice was having Carplay (probably android auto if I owned or someone I was with had an android) so much more convenient to look up directions on the phone and have them instantly on the screen with basically just needing to pair Bluetooth and authorize Carplay use.

Their reasoning is people grabbing their phone less without Carplay/Android Auto?? what even with them I constantly see people grabbing their phone while driving/at stop lights/etc. and without them it will be even worse!

My wife's Nissan Qashqai (Mild Hybrid) has wireless CarPlay. She has never once complained about it not working and I've never personally witnessed it malfunction in any way at all while in the car with her. Sounds like an excuse and one that won't work.

We did not buy a Tesla because it didn't have CarPlay, it was the main feature my wife wanted and specifically, she wanted wireless CarPlay. She won't buy a car without it. GM is acting really foolish but hey they'll learn the hard way.

Go for it GM. I never once in my 56 years said "I would like to look at a GM car". I don't like having to bring my vehicles to the shop. Toyota all the way, except my Mazda Miata. Never in the shop except for maintenance.

I bought a GM car in the 1980s and that experience put me off them for good. And then key-gate, where to save < $1 per car GM made cars that would turn off while driving on a highway because the ignition switch was so fragile, convinced me that GM's culture put cost savings above safety.

I'd bet that that a lot of people who have the money to spend on an EV also have iPhones. This looks like a failure of the marketing department to me.

How stupid do they think people are. If anything, the UI of any car manufacturers own interface is unsafe and offensive to my eyes.
Agreed. The manufacturer’s syetm in my car is very poor and unresponsive compared to CarPlay. However, Android Auto is, IMHO better than CarPlay.

Seems like a decision like this to remove CarPlay and force people into using their systems might have a deeper more long term goal? Chevy's already gotten rid of almost all of their cars offering only the Malibu and Bolt (and they're stopping production of the Bolt, leaving only the Malibu), along with a small selection of SUVs and then some trucks. At that point, what really makes them any different than GMC? Or what does that make GMC any different than Chevrolet? Seems like one of those two could easily just fold into the other, and maybe then they just don't even offer the Malibu anymore, and probably blaming it on "people buying less cars", even though they're the ones causing that to begin with. This whole CarPlay thing seems like step #4 in a long list of steps to an end game of some kind.

I think this quote of theirs is misleading. A few months ago when GM initially said they were phasing out CarPlay & Android Auto, they said they would "start" with the 2024 EV Blazer, but they never indicated anything beyond that. Them saying they're still going to "support" it means that their existing models that already have CarPlay & Android Auto will still get to continue using it. They never said anything about continuing to offer this option in new vehicles. I bet they still drop it across the board for all new vehicles and then support for older models that still have it will start getting pretty sparse.

You mean they don’t know how to spin their poor decision without completely reversing it🤣. If anyone is dumb enough to buy this car thinking they don’t need CarPlay or android auto they will be texting from their phone in days which will be the most unsafe thing anyone can do.

Just admit you want revenue from requiring people to pay for a service and move along. We are stupid you’re money hungry.

If this was about the consumer and your customized infotainment system that your having Google make was soooooo wonderful we’d use it all on our own with about being bent over and forced into using it after paying 60-150K on a car. OMG we get to pick what we think is best?! Imagine we paid for something and we got to chose for ourself which option was the best, most user friendly, reliable tech and use what we wanted after we paid for something. You just know that NO ONE is going to like your tech better so you want to force people to use it. Goodbye Felicia!

I always found brand loyalty, particularly to cars, kind of odd. I come from a GM family, we'd only owned Chevrolet's, and my family gave me such crap when I bought my first Ford (Fusion Titanium). Coincidentally, it was my first car with CarPlay and I fell in love.

With GM nixing CarPlay, I gotta say my next car won't be a GM. The reason I traded the Fusion in for an Escape instead of any other brand was because of two things: Price and CarPlay. The other car I was looking at was the Kia Sportage but I'm not keen on their emblem redesign, at all.
