I went ahead and pulled the trigger on Google Apps for Business so I could have push with the native mail app. Been loving it so far.

were you able to use your @gmail.com address. I have not seen a spot to pay them the ransom to get my push back in the native app with out having to have my own domain.

With the introduction of iCloud Drive, I have just migrated to iCloud (using a .me address) from Gmail, push is working great and doesn't seem to impact my battery life.

Some of the time it works perfectly, with mail arriving as fast or faster than on the desktop. At other times, it'll re-sync my entire mailbox, or mail will come in a few minutes later than it should have.

I've been having a back and forth with support, who has at least been communicating well and assuring me my problems have been sent to their engineers. For $30, I'm willing to try this for a year. It's better than Fetch, and in tandem with the Gmail app I think it's not bad considering the other options are not as good.

Technically, Google has to pay Microsoft a licensing fee for using the exchange protocol, so I can understand why they would support it only for their paid services. It's not malice or anything. It's just plain business.

It is beyond me how people can remotely rely on a adware company such as Google. Each and EVERY SINGLE email you are sending is being scanned for keywords.

As opposed to most other free email services? Or basically using the Internet in general?

So in addition to the sporadic push notifications I'm getting with Nuevasync my inbox re-downloads itself every so often. Today it happened at least 3 times. Very annoying. Nuevasync support has told me one of their staff is having similar issues as me and it might be a new bug in the sync client for iOS 8. If they think that is is the issue then they will follow up with Apple when they have enough evidence. That was last week.

Latest thing they sent me is they identified a problem relating to the way they authenticate with Google's IMAP. They don't have a complete fix, but I guess the will know more tomorrow.

Yep, that re-download happened to me several times yesterday and still happens a few times a week regularly.

Gmail - Push Notifications?

Is there any magic solution yet how to use iOS native Mail app and get Push notifications for Gmail account?

Yes. Pay for Google apps for business and reconfigure using exchange. If your on just Gmail or free Google apps your outta luck.

Can I use the same username / email address? (The point is not to move to a new email address, otherwise I can get push notifications through hotmail etc).

Or stop using the native app, bury it in a folder, and use the best email app on iOS (and Android), CloudMagic.

Setup an Outlook.com account with your Gmail address; you can send and receive from your Gmail account but still get the advantages of Outlook's exchange support. It evens syncs your notification across devices, so no more errant notification badges for messages you've already read.

The only major downside that I can see is that when you send messages, it'll append your address with a "Sent via..." message or some such thing. I can't remember exactly because I use iCloud for my mail now for simplicity's sake.

I don't see any Outlook Sent via signature on any device I use.

People who keep suggesting other clients don't really get the point. The native client offers a better experience for a lot of reasons:

Actually Supports 6/6+ displays
Functions well with swipe back gesture
Quick gestures for mark as read, archive, delete
Great functionality with Notification Center.

There is no great way to get Push Gmail to your phone for free.

Some people forward it to their icloud email, but then you run into other small quirks as well. I just do fetch every hour, most of the time it's junk email anyways.

I'll just throw this out there. I thought I couldn't live without push Gmail, and tried multiple solutions, including using the Gmail app for notifications but then viewing in the native app.

Then I thought I would just try the 15 minute fetch setting and see how it went. About a week later, I'm used to it, and it doesn't even occur to me anymore.

I realize that if you use it for business or if you do texting by email (which I sometimes do) it seems like 15 minutes is too long, but it has worked for me.

Do we really need our phone dinging INSTANTLY all the time anyway? (Rhetorical question)

How is it better than the native mail app?

just try it and come back here and thank me!!!!

it is better in EVERY way :)

Except that the e-mail passes through Mailboxes' servers. I'm not a fan of that.

everything passes through everyone's servers these days. it's hopeless. it used to piss me off but I just don't care any more.
