I'm not arguing preferences. You can like whatever you want but I'm just saying at this point both are very good at doing the tasks most people want. I love tech and no loyalty to Apple, Samsung, Google or Microsoft. I like tech and for at least this cycle I want a Note 8. Might go get an X if I can because it's cool as well. No need to say either sucks. This is like high-school where we must like something and hate the other...

Yeah I agree. Same here. I like technology, not specific company as such. It just turns out that Apple ecosystem works better for me.

Forgive my ignorance as I have only seen pictures etc of the 10, but as far as I am aware you can block this so called notch if you wish by changing it to a complete black bar that all other mobiles have. (correct ?)
These sensors/cameras have to live up there on the front so just what is the issue, complete black top or center ?
Mind you as a 5 owner myself I could well be living in ignorance as I doubt I will ever own a 10.
Our Motorola / Samsung phones spend most of their lives updating Google this & Google that as well as the on-board bloatware and yes it will do the same as iOS and with a back button.Coming from a Nokia / Windows background I must admit I do at times find iOS very frustrating. (accept that is most probably me & not the UI)
So the 8 is not much better than the 6 (?) ....... odds on it is & a good deal faster I bet, but if that is your opinion then just buy a 6 or 7 ? and save yourself a good deal of money (IMO of course)

I upgraded from 7+ to 8+, the first thing I noticed is how long the battery life is.

I unplug the phone from charger from 8:30AM. By 1pm, with lunch usage my 7+ usually gets to 70%ish. Then by 5:30pm, 40%.

With my 8+ after lunch (1pm) it was on 87%. Still waiting for 5:30pm, but right now it's on 82% at 3:40pm. While I'm playing music on my headphones all this time!

I'm happy with my 8+, and I may jump on the Xs bandwagon, when it has Touch ID. But after seeing the notch and no Touch ID in favour of the beta Face ID...WITH a £1000 asking price, nah...I'm not getting the X.

The only thing you can do is vote with your wallet. I got my 8 and I like it a lot as an upgrade over my 6. BUT the design is old no doubt and its not where Apple should be but it's a good phone. Just FYI I have a S8 that I use for VR so I have a decent comparison for phones. I still rather have the 8 as my everyday phone over the S8.

Apple can't seem to win this year.

We have people complaining about the lack of innovation with the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus as the same design has been refined for the last 3-4 generations.

Then on the flip side online, people are moaning no end and seem to have doubts about the new design and feature set of the iPhone X.

I have upgraded from a 6s Plus Gold to an 8 Plus Space Grey and it's a whole new phone to me so I am happy.

Just my two cents anyway.

I love the apple ecosystem with an iPad Pro 10.5, MacBook pro and an apple TV 4k but even though I love it the opportunity to switch to Android and the note 8 I made the switch and see what happens. I lose the continuity but it was really only iMessage that I cared about but switching to Verizon I can have a mini version of it with their app.

Personally I love the x and that notch. I will probably try to pre order it.

I depend on my phone way too much to take that chance. Lol.

And that's why Apple (amongst others) offer choice. Some people don't seem to understand this. What is right for one, may not be right for another. If this was the case, we would all eat at the same restaurant and wear the same clothing.

For me, I have a number of issues with the new design and the fact that it's first generation of this particular form factor. Apple will improve this drastically on V2 of the device and that's the reason I have stayed with the 8 Plus this year. I made the mistake with my Apple Watch first generation which was slow and battery wise wasn't the best.

While idc as much but you still have to admit that the 8 looks a bit close to the 6.
No argument, the 8 looks nearly identical to the 6, as it does to most Android phones. Most of them are simple slabs now. Personally, the design has served me well, and functional needs/capabilities haven't really changed for any of them in years.

The tantrums about the demand for constant major hardware changes is mildly entertaining.

Completely agree with you.

And the only other comparable manufacturer Samsung comes up with design changes which are impractical and a nightmare in terms of user experience. Case in point their edge series - good to look at, horrendous in day to day usage.

I think apple certainly has some catching up to do in terms of fast-charging, etc,
But to expect a major breakthrough with every year's phone is a little silly.

To be honest, I am happy to wait for certain features as past experience has told me that the wait is worth it when it applies to Apple products.

As other posters have said, you have a right to vote with your wallet but in my opinion, you are taking this way too personally. A phone or computer/electronics/software company should not dictate your feelings and emotions. At the end of the day, it’s a phone, a computer, software. Period. I’m not sure why so many are so offended by the iPhone X black bezel on top. I don’t see it as a compromise nor do I see Face ID as some sort of last minute panic move as some would suggest. There’s way too much tech involved for that to have just been a rushed mistake.
You mean like the barrel shaped Mac Pro? Also a huge mistake that no one caught. THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES.

Exactly this! Smartphones are just slabs of screens now since the success of the original iPhone. I don’t understand what people really expect.

As a current note 8 owner I've grown to it. Honestly I think Apple should of made the 8 design as the X but keep the OLED screen and face Id as x exclusive. Maybe make a chin for the touch ID or just put it in the back?

If you don’t like the X or the price that’s why this year we have two different models. Even the 7 is an excellent choice.

Other than the notch and the Face ID only authentication system, I have no gripes against the X. Especially when I use Apple Pay on a regular basis. Raising the phone to my face every time I want to pay for something is really awkward for me. The X would have sold either way even if they got rid off the bezel on the top and bottom but didn’t put the notch there.

I’m thinking they couldn’t implement Touch ID in one of the buttons on the side because it’s just not enough surface for a good reading of the finger prints. But Touch ID on the back is equally a no no for me. It’s really cumbersome to use on a daily basis. Plus this means your phone screen is touching the payment authentication device rather than the back. Might scratch the screen somehow in that method.

It's truly amazing how many people bash the X but have not seen it live or had hands on... Makes me laugh.. If you're so in love with Apple, don't you owe it to them, or to yourself to at least see the object of your distane in person before passing judgement?

I do question Apple's wisdom on the way they went about this release, specifically branding the 8 over a 7S designation. I personally believe that had Apple released this hardware as a 7S they would have had much less criticism over the lack of form factor design changes. It has been commander for apple in the past to release S models with under the hood changes.

Phone X isn't perfect. It is flawed, and Apple, if you truly think it's appropriate to ask your community to "get used to" or adjust to the akward black bevel on your "borderless screen" that.. by the way blocks videos and makes the experience inconvenient for an outstanding price you're wrong.

You know that a simple double tap adjusts whether the "notch" infringes on the video or not, right?

Apple could have done a lot of things differently this year. Unfortunately, what they did do...I question.

There's always next year...I hope 2018 will give us much better.

That's true. I feel like siri was pretty rushed and laggy at launch - and still in beta - and they marketed the entire 4S around siri.
