We’ve officially come to the point where major companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, and Google are copying Apple, at first it was lowkey, but this just screams “We are like Apple! Please buy us!”
Other companies have copied Apple for years, it was never lowkey it was blatant. The Google Home speaker is not an example of this as Echo Dot launched in 2016, and Google Home mini in 2017. Apple's response to them (HomePod mini) came in 2020.

Have people really looked at what a HomePod looks like? These are 2 very different designs. The material is similar or the same, not sure on that but are people really saying no one can use a similar material now? I would say the Google one actually looks better, like little mushrooms in their shape. Apple's looks like the Amazon Echos they used to make that were similar shape and height.

Google has been trying to imitate Apple since at least when Google CEO Eric Schmidt sat on the Apple board of directors from 2006 to 2009. Google launched the Android a year after the iPhone.

Google really lacks the sense of product design and engineering durability innate to Apple. Of course, Google also does not respect customer privacy.

The product looks similar to the Apple Homepod, but…
Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Google Home mini was release seven years ago, three years before HomePod mini, and one year after Echo Dot:

I read this entire piece last night and it’s wild.
It honestly makes me wanna go nowhere near any of these things.

Man goes missing after becoming obsessed with Google Gemini AI Chabot

But.... Apple!

I really don't get how or why people get so emotional over these products and who designed what first. You have easily shown how all the posts about this are now wrong on this but I am guessing there will be no reverse outrage at Apple for using the same/similar material that Google used before Apple.

Not only that but I have already received a "Dislike" for showing it. The truth hurts.

Whatever one thinks of Gemini, it's clearly better than the current state of Siri.

Trouble is, after the Nest to Google Home mess and Google completely dropping support for older products like Nest Guard/Security and such, I simply do not trust them to support a product more than a couple years (if I'm lucky).

I do not want to be upgrading my home's appliances and light bulbs every two years like I would a phone or a laptop. Just isn't happening. Meanwhile, Homekit hardware from the early days still works.
Tbh regular old light bulbs and regular old light switches are underrated. They work 100% of the time and are cheap.

Other than the challenge of not being in Apple Eco System, this device will probably work better and do more than the HomePod. However, Google is a steep price to pay where privacy is concerned if based on any of their past.

I'm sure it works well. I wouldn't put Google or Amazon hardware in my home.

The Homepod was unveiled 28 months before and released 18 months before the Google Nest Mini. 🤔

Google Nest Mini was unveiled and released in October 2019.

Apple Homepod was unveiled in June 2017 and came out in February 2018.
The Google Mini, which preceded the Nest Mini and had an identical design, released in October 2017. The Apple Homepod launched Feb 2018 (and looked nothing like the mini).

Google released their small, fabric woven orb/puck design months before the Homepod and years before the Homepod Mini. There is no question Apple was inspired by Google's design.

Read your post including what you quoted. 🤦‍♂️

Google unveiled the design of the Google Mini four months after the HomePod design was revealed.

How is there “no question” Google’s design inspired the Apple design unveiled 4 months before it? 🤔

That's just typical Apple fans ignorance. Here is the Google Nest Mini (2017):

Who is copying who?
Have you seen all these devices in person? Also have you been on this planet for last 20 years. Everyone is copying Apple for decades. Only one ignorant here is you. Look around. They are clearly not even hiding it any more.

Mr Temple, you're conflating two products into one.

The Google Home Mini and the Google Nest Mini are two separate products but with the same physical design. But the Google Home Mini was announced October 4, 2017 and released October 19, 2017. The Google Nest Mini was unveiled October 15, 2019 and launched October 22, 2019.

I'm well aware of what I quoted.

What I am saying is the original Apple Homepod (which is a totally different category of large form factor speaker) and the Google Home Mini released so close together that neither inspired the other. The Google Home Mini would have been on the assembly line by the time Apple unveiled their Homepod design. But the Apple Homepod Mini, which came out years after the Google Home Mini, was clearly inspired by Google's original small form factor design.

Which brings us to the very latest announcement of the new Google Home speaker launching early next year. This design is a direct descendant of the small form factor woven look of the original Google Home Mini from October 2017 - not the Apple Homepod Mini that came out years after in 2020.

Side note: and it was the original Google Home from 2016 that incorporated a woven fabric look into the base. This preceded the original Apple Homepod.

What joke!

Two posts ago you said there was “no question” the Google product that had never been shown was the inspiration for the HomePod that was revealed FOUR MONTHS BEFORE IT.

This post you’re saying, they were so close they couldn’t possibly have influenced each other.

My dude… learn to admit when you’re wrong. 🙄

Mate you're just misunderstanding my point.

The only reason I mentioned the launch date of the Homepod was to illustrate its launch date was so close to the Google Home Mini that neither would have influenced the other - BUT the Google Home Mini would have influenced the design and direction of the Homepod Mini. We know for a fact that mini-style smart speakers have been way more popular within the consumer market.

This is what I meant when I said there's no question Apple was inspired by Google's Mini design - not for the Homepod, but for the Homepod Mini.

Why do you really care who did it first or who is copying who? People are influenced by other people all the time, same goes with design. Do you dress in a complete unique way or does your sense of style come from someone else that you are copying of emulating? Be happy you have choice and let the corporations fight amongst themselves with lawsuits for ever and ever.

Every speaker from Google and Apple look smart enough and everything from Amazon looks garish, tacky and tasteless. I hope we can at least all agree on this.
