I chalk this up to the "who cares" category... even Apple's non-annouced iRadio does not sound all that appealing. I sure wouldn't pay more for any of it. I'm nickeled and dimed to death already.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out in 5 years.

That's completely fine for you. I, on the other hand, find my Spotify subscription to be indispensable. For $120/year, I can stream unlimited albums at 320 kbps bitrate with no ads. It's the world's jukebox. I've probably listened to 100 different albums in the last months alone. For that price, I could buy 12 albums on iTunes. Sure, you own the music with iTunes and you all are free to choose that route.

But I'd rather have unlimited access to hundreds of thousands of albums instead.

This is where I just scratch my head. I suppose I just don't have enough imagination or time to put that much into listening to music. I have one or two playlists that I listen to the vast majority of the time, and I have trouble even updating them. Have almost 4,000 songs in my library, and the vast majority of the time I never listen to most of them. I'll bet I don't hear more than about 40-50 of them within 2 or 3 months. The idea of curating an unlimited library off of the cloud just makes me feel tired.

To quote Austin Powers, "That's not my bag, Baby!"

Sadly, I'm increasingly worried for Apple. First came the rumor of AppleCare policies changing and then came Siri feature removal. Now Google is making great strides.

I'm sad, and anxious at the same time. I really hope Apple has something great to surprise us all, if not they'll go back to the painful times...

I find it funny that people think spending $120 a year on music is a lot...

Times have certainly changed.

Makes me think of the days when you had to spend $15-20 for ONE album on CD, and $300-400 for a home player.

It's cuz there are free alternatives. If you had no choice but to pay, then this would be great. Fortunately, you have the choice.

And starving musicians everywhere sighed...:(

what a joke, $120 a year? no thanks
I still dont see why people "buy" digital music, much less "rent" it...
they will just have a new high bandwidth 24bit format soon
and the networks will slow down once again
data plans will explode and everyone gets price gouged, awesome:confused:

PS. I only buy vinyl records...
superior sound, art, and the ability to resell (usually at a profit)
Same here. I'd never pay money for digital music. It just doesn't feel right.
I literally grew up with piracy and that makes digital media seem so worthless to me. I'm not trying to say the music/work is worthless, and I'm not trying to say that piracy is okay. I just hate the idea of buying something that is so easily copied, deleted, altered. So that's why I like vinyls much much better. It is something real, in your hands. The music is there, you can see it etc.

So Microsoft has the amazing XBox music pass beautifully integrated into their OS's.
Google seems to have almost reached the same goal and made it browser accessible (cross platform)
And Apple is giving us iRadio? Wauw I'm impressed apple, soooo innovative ...

You don't have unlimited access. You have unlimited access as long as you keep paying. For the rest of your life, the cost of renting will outweigh the cost of buying since for most people, there aren't THAT many albums they would love to listen to at any time.

The thing about Google is they release great updates as they are needed. Apple wants to wait to whole freaking year in order to add it to their list for "200 new features" instead of release updates and apps as the market changes on them.

iOS 7 will be nothing more than catch-up, nothing innovative, with the gloss of a 'flat design' UI to distract from the real issues with Apple and iOS.

I'm a little confused. I don't see any appreciable difference between free spotify and free pandora. They seem identical to me. Paid spotify though at least allowed me to pick specific songs. I never used paid pandora though. There's also rdio which is a paid service and I haven't used it. Last.fm as well. So what exactly is different between these services (is the difference only when you pay?) and now the new google or proposed Iradio?

They are not identical. You are confused. One allows you to pick the songs, one forces you to listen to what they think you will like.

does crapify still make you link your facebuck? does this need your Gaagle + linked?

 What? You're one of those people who would probably complain if we COULDN'T link our digital accounts... and no btw, it's not mandatory on Spotify.

Even with Spotify, and Rdio I've tried, I just can't get my head around the $9.99 a month. That price seems too high to me. Especially since my iTunes library is filled with music I already like (obviously). This whole discovering music thing is strange. I never had a problem discovering music before. I guess the only real benefit is listening to music I don't have already.

For $10 on Rdio i'm listening to maybe 10-20 new albums a week (new music every tuesday). Some are good and most are bad. But I get all my current music and new music every week for the price of one album. It's a pretty good deal if you use it this way. If you don't plan on adding to your collection, then yah, it's silly.

I love when people say this, yet, iOS gets used more then Android...

Out of adversity great ideas are born.

Remember, at one point they were almost bankrupt. And the only way to save the company was to be bold, aggressive and visionary. With the position they're in now, it's just to easy to be timid, passive and stale. Time will tell.

When did Apple announce something called iRadio?

I am one of those who will never pay for streaming music.

Netflix should combine movie streaming and music streaming into one for $15 or and they will increase the user base.

So you've seen iOS 7 already?

I don't have to. From what I'm seeing on Google's Event about Now cards, it completely owns the garbage that is Siri. She can't even understand the simplest things that it should currently do. Apple is clearly behind in terms of development. But that's ok, because I'm rooting for Apple to come out swinging - afterall, I'm DEEPLY invested in Apple.

Also worth noting that even FREE streamed digital music isn't free. You still have to pay for some type of internet/data connection to access it both at home and on-the-go. And when Comcast, AT&T, et al finally get around to adding usage caps on home/business internet plans it will make owning music that much better.

Looks like a good alternative to Spotify,
but only iRadio will have The Beatles ;)

I'd guess that Google/Samsung/etc doesn't care about that, they might even be happy about it. Why? Because those who pick a streaming service based on whether it has The Beatles or not tend to be old. So, it works perfectly for Samsung's current strategy of calling iOS/iPhones/iPads/etc old.

Whilst I don't completely disagree with you, $10/month isn't going to feed many musicians.

I wasn't implying it would. In fact all streaming services whether paid or free pay jack squat to the artists. I was just making a "wistful joke" about the majority of people's attitudes toward artists and the value (or lack thereof) of what they craft.
