I find it funny that people think spending $120 a year on music is a lot...

Times have certainly changed.

As a teen in the late 80's amd early 90's I was spending much more on CD's and cassettes for sure.

I have spotify now and listen to whatever I want for 10 bucks. That's a damn bargain compared to what I grew up with.

what a joke, $120 a year? no thanks
I still dont see why people "buy" digital music, much less "rent" it...
they will just have a new high bandwidth 24bit format soon
and the networks will slow down once again
data plans will explode and everyone gets price gouged, awesome:confused:

PS. I only buy vinyl records...
superior sound, art, and the ability to resell (usually at a profit)

Let Gary know, how many pieces of vinyl you own.

Yes, I find that alot, but when I was younger and in my teens through mid twenties, that's all I spent money on because I loved music. But now with mortgage, cars, 2 kids and a dog, not so much. Could be just my age, but I just don't find too much music worth buying anymore. To listen to, sure, but not worth buying. I think I buy about 5 albums a year (I rarely purchase just a single) these days, if that.

Wait, let me get my portable recorder player out.

$180 here ya go

I are 7 too?

The mod's might make you leave for this forum for being under 13, kid

When I hear someone say vinyl, ether they are close to their 60s or they are talking about vinyl records. I was trying to figure out what you are talking about...

Whilst I don't completely disagree with you, $10/month isn't going to feed many musicians.

The question is how much the average person spends on music in a month. If it's a lot more than $10, then it would be an issue, if not, then it isn't.

Because whether people like it or not, we are moving towards only digital distribution, whether its streaming or downloading. When more and more are paying $10/month, then that will feed a lot of musicians.

Sadly, I'm increasingly worried for Apple. First came the rumor of AppleCare policies changing and then came Siri feature removal. Now Google is making great strides.

I'm sad, and anxious at the same time. I really hope Apple has something great to surprise us all, if not they'll go back to the painful times...

Worried? Why? Yes, iOS needs a few things here and there, I just hope they don't turn it in to Android!!! If I wanted an Android phone I would buy one...

To those on here that are even mentioning Pandora you have no idea! You aren't a true music fan if you really think Pandora is getting it done for you. It is total garbage! A couple years ago I used it until I found SPOTIFY! The worst part about Pandora is you favorite all these songs, you go back and click the link to take you to iTunes and it can't even find the dadgum track! Seriously, I wanted acoustic version of Eagles "Hell freezes over" and I clicked to take me to itunes to buy- NOPE, nowhere to be found!
My biggest compliment for Spotify other than the obvious; I get to listen to countless albums and tracks from artist I probably would never buy, but love to add to my playlist but the biggest feature is organization! How many people have duplicate tracks in their current Google Music app? I have 3 and 4 versions of the same song, missing album covers, etc. I may sign up and try the trial for Google Play Music, but the biggest question- is their an iOS app??? If not, no thanks! Spotify iPad and iPhone apps are great!!!

Ya, but you need an SUV just to take your music on the road...

I subsribe to Rdio and love it. I think $120 a year is a bargain (may even be too cheap). I spent a lot more than that a year in the CD era. If I want to own something now I but rdio is great for discovery new bands,

I love having 90% of the music in the world everywhere I go.

I doubt Googles radio will be available on iPhone for awhile. Too bad it sounds cool. I like having the entire album. iRadio sounds too much like Pandora and will only play certain tracks off of certain albums.

Dude, you can AirPlay with Spotify..
How? In the free version? I searched all over and everything I ran across were requests from people asking to add the feature.

Update: from what I see at the Spotify website, I can AirPlay from a Mac running Mountain Lion to an Apple TV. I am running Lion.

First press i in the Album Screen (when playing). Then find the AirPlay icon to they right of the volumeslider.

EDIT: Ah, from a Mac. Just purchase Airfoil. Probably a good investment anyway :)

This post nails it.

Unfortunately, since Apple is stuck pandering to their dinosaur music sales model in iTunes (times change fast), they will compromise and offer a Pandora style service to preserve iTunes sales. Good luck with that Apple, and btw I miss the old Apple that wasn't afraid of change. Now the MBAs rule the roost. :(

.

but Pandora sucks. you cant simply play what you want i always end up just skipping till i reach the limit cuz it never plays what i want.

youre using it wrong. Pandora isnt there to play specific tracks youd like to hear. its there to play songs youll probably like, tuned & tweaked by your Thumbs Up/Down rankings and seed values. the better you train it, the better the selections.

completely different job to be done than Spotify or whatnot.

----------

"Google Play Music All Access"

...is that really the name of the service? 5 words? thats a whole sentence!

if they cant stay focused enough to devise a good name, i have my doubts as to the rest of the product.

----------

Google's product names continually become more and more verbose.

using all the absurd cell phone names, i bet one could identify a link between super long names, and crappy products.

----------

lol "on demand"? u rather pay 10 bucks for ONE album u may not even like after a month than pay 10 bucks for unlimited albums anywhere you go?

if youre paying $10 for an album you dont even know if you like, then youre buying it wrong. seriously, why wouldnt you preview it first?

if only apple would release a "spotify" for tv shows ... which will never happen with those greedy networks but one can dream

I own hundreds of CDs. From that I have probably 80 artists. I preview their new album and then I'll buy it or not. I never walked into a Tower Records and got all giddy at the prospect of ever being able to listen to all the albums in this massive store, all for $10/month. I looked for the artists I enjoy and upon recommendations those I might enjoy. I tested out the discs and I bought what I heard and enjoyed.

Same with iTunes.

That's sorta the point...I didn't have to purchase AirFoil for Pandora or iTunes, just to stream music to my audio system and shouldn't have to for Spotify either.

I think thats  cutting you off in regards to AirPlay not working on anything other than Lion.

But seriously, Airfoil lets you AirPlay anything. Which is good.

I'd guess that Google/Samsung/etc doesn't care about that, they might even be happy about it. Why? Because those who pick a streaming service based on whether it has The Beatles or not tend to be old. So, it works perfectly for Samsung's current strategy of calling iOS/iPhones/iPads/etc old.
I, like millions of people, have all of The Beatles albums, so I don't really need them available on a music service.

I have a subscription to MOG. It was around in the USA before Spotify and had higher bitrates until Spotify updated. I haven't bothered changing. I do have a free Spotify account that I got when they first came to the USA, but rarely use it.

I do like the idea of combining all of my hard drive music, which has artists like The Beatles, Def Leppard, AC/DC, etc.. that are not available on most streaming services. Unfortunately, I require an iPhone app, so Google is not the solution. Also, I wonder what they do with ALAC files? Do they treat them like iTunes Match and provide a lower rez version of them?

Currently, I use a combination of iTunes Match and MOG. The upside to iTunes Match is that I can tell it to play "The Beatles" via Siri and it will start playing. It is nice for using in the car via Bluetooth.

Vinyl vs Streaming services is really not much of a comparison. I have access to millions of songs from anywhere I have cell service or wifi with MOG. I can Airplay that stream to any Airplay receiving device I have around (and I have them in most of our rooms). Vinyl would suck in the car or when I am out for a jog. Vinyl is for listening at home, but your variety is still limited to what you own. I want to explore music, dig deep into artist catalogs, and be able to see recommendations based on my past listening choices. For me, streaming is a better choice...although I do occasionally buy a vinyl album.

The good thing is that paying for MOG does not prevent me from buying an occasional vinyl album. No one says you can't have both.
