Now, Apple's pushed this to Summer ? Just like "striking a deal with content creates over their Apple Television", just keep letting this one 'slide' until one day, it will happen.

This is good for Google, they need a "foot in the door", and (hopefully) would have a wider selection than the music limited by Spotify.

I guess, if Google made this free, then no one would be on there, but by the same token, its what we all want "even if you wanna take sides"

price is good, however the fact there IS a price, will limit people.

Paid for/ripped MP3s, or vinyl, for my absolute favourite music. For everything else - Spotify. That's how I roll.

I have a funny feeling Apple's eventual offering is going to be like iCloud - extremely anaemic.

I didn't say it's not both ways.

And the hypocrisy is not Google vs. Apple. It's in how so many in this thread are finding Google iRadio "lame", stupid, "a waste", "too expensive", "what's this got over Spotify?" and on and on. And I'm only predicting it when Apple rolls out Apple "Play Music All Access" as iRadio and these same people and countless others will gush about the greatness of many of these very same features... probably at a higher subscription rate.

This is just a perfect setup for comparing the comments made following an Apple iRadio announcement. It just happens that Google is behind this particular incarnation of iRadio just ahead of Apple.

Yeah, I know. There's always this subset of people that- when faced with a tough punch to where they think Apple wants to go- tries to redirect the arguments into something else. The goto ones is to try to shift it into an argument of vs. Android, vs. Samsung, vs. Windows, vs. Google, vs. Adobe, etc.

I stand by what I wrote and I'm no Android, Samsung, Windows, Google, Adobe, etc fan. If this had been the Apple rollout of iRadio, I bet this thread would be packed with nearly opposite sentiment (the crowd would be gushing about the greatness of this new offering and the minority would be finding fault with some of the particulars... and getting thorough beatdowns for finding any such faults in an Apple creation). But it was Google rolling out iRadio before Apple could... so naturally it's "lame", stupid, "who wants streaming radio?", "why this vs. Spotify or Pandora?" and all the rest... right up until Apple rolls out the same and then it will transform into "Best innovation ever", "shut up and take my money", "can't wait for streaming radio", and on and on.

I realize this is MacRumors and not GoogleRumors, so I can appreciate the crowd here is going to have a bias (as I do too- that's why I'm here) but it would be great if there could be a bit more objectivity in stuff like this. While I know some of us believe that only Apple can do anything, the reality is that there are innovative companies besides just Apple and we all win when any of them bring us anything good-to-great... even if they roll out something better than Apple's version of something (for example, those Google maps innovations do look great to me, especially against the latest Apple Maps innovation of mapping out Paris France the other day. Even if some of us won't switch back to Google Maps, such innovation puts the heat under Apple to step it up in their own work on Apple Maps).

As I wrote before, this is an excellent thread to remember and refer back to when Apple rolls out iRadio in the near future. It's the kind of thread that illustrates how easily opinions flip flop when the brand rolling out a service is Apple vs. anyone else. The contrast of how iRadio will make incredible sense but this Google iRadio makes little-to-none should be hilarious. I've been around long enough to see this play out over and over before. Here we go again.

And I stick with what I said, if this was an Apple offering the usual android people here would be saying it's lame and it can't beat spotify and how apple is doing things that have already been done and have no innovation. It's a good thread to refer to see the cognitive dissonance of android users.

There's a subset of people here who feel the need to generalize every apple user into one. You've proven youre a part of that subset, and when you got people like samcraig agreeing with you, that's not saying much...

Just saw this good overview of the service and pluses/minuses.

Those that wonder how this differs from Spotify or why you might switch/not switch - take a look.

Redundant post is redundant.

Whether this service by Google is good or bad is one thing..
But, I'm surprised that Google can "DO" things, and all we hear is Apple is TRYING to do this, that etc.. But, nothing comes out.

Tim Cook might be a profitable CEO. But, he has not delivered ANYTHING yet. All he has done so far is polish what Steve already did.. People might argue that the stock market is rigged (may be it is..), but, this sentiment is exactly reflecting in the stock price. Do a compare of GOOG and APPL stock, and you see that they are the mirror images.. GOOG going up and APPL going down.

At some point Mr. Cook has to explain. He can try talking like Steve, walking like Steve, but he is NO STEVE. This fall is make or break for him/Apple.. Else it is fall for Apple+Tim.

I highly doubt this fall is "make or break" for Tim Cook or Apple...

EDIT: Also, no iPhone app? That's a dealbreaker for me. I was really looking forward to give this a go!

It's apparently in the plan. Not sure when - but it's "in the works" as per the article I linked above.

ETA: although a jury rig - you could still use the service via web browser. Put a bookmark shortcut on your home screen.

Very true. I've never been a fan of web apps, though. I'm hoping they get an iOS app before June 30.. I'm trying to save some money lol

Not a big fan of web apps either. But if it works decently and can get you the lower price by signing up now and the app comes within the next few months - might be worth it.

but Pandora sucks. you cant simply play what you want i always end up just skipping till i reach the limit cuz it never plays what i want.

Then you're doing it wrong.

If you aren't voting songs, of course it'll never play what you want to hear. It won't know what you want to hear. I have stations that I can listen to for hours that will never play a song I don't want to hear. Yes, it took time to build them to that level, but that's the point of the service.

I might make the plunge. I'm kinda kicking myself for deleting my Google library years ago and going all in with iTunes Match

I may try it out to see if I can live with the web browser while they are working on the iOS app. The main upside is the entry price and the ability to access your own files in addition to what they have available. I like MOG, but if I can save a few bucks for something similar, it is are least worth trying out.

I have iTunes Match and like it a lot. I know it has some quirks, but I like the way it works with Siri. The main reason I would want an Apple streaming service is if it also took advantage of Siri and was built into the iOS default programs. If I could just tell it to play any album iTunes carries, without touching a button (like iTunes Match), I think it would be the best service around.

If that happens, I would definitely be here praising it over the other choices out there. However, if it works just like Spotify or MOG as a separate app that doesn't work with Siri, I might be in the camp of "why bother".

I hope it starts a price war. $9.99 is too much to listen to music that you don't own. The introductory price of $7.99 is better but $4.99 would be about right. And you should be able to keep 10 songs per month.

GPMAA for short :)

Reminds me too much of the RIAA and MPAA.

I'm not into streaming services or letting Google get even more information about me, but it's good to see more options available. Like others have said I hope it doesn't put competing services out of business. A Google monopoly isn't good for anyone except Google.
