Hmm... I wonder if wiretap laws are different between voice and data channels... I get the feeling Google can't listen to a voice call in order to pitch ads, but they can for data-- don't know for sure, but...

Here's an article from TechCrunch. They're speculating that it may not be a full-fledged phone, but one driven by VOIP & Google Voice:

this should be good..
I'm getting bored of the iphone and all the apps (that I never use anymore)
the novelty has worn off, and it's time for something better..
although I'm gonna wait and see what it's like and how it matches up, I'm hoping they will have a something better than android 2.0, and the hardware should be very good.. or else I'm stuck with my iphone..
and who ever said that people who have PC's only buy android phones and people who use macs only buy iphones is an idiot.
umm what features are you getting with any other phone than the iPhone? Android apps are simply not as good.
Sure there are a lot of new phones coming out, but I think we're at a point where the Android phones are eating other Android phones. I don't think there are that many people unhappy with Apple's products.
Most of my music was purchased on CD's long ago, but I do have quite a bit of music that I purchased on the iTunes store. I even have a few movies that I purchased on iTunes. I have hundreds of apps in my iTunes library that aren't necessarily on my phone some are paid for, most are free, but I can add them and remove them at will. I can get updates for free (so far). I just don't see anything coming along that will break my "bond" with iTunes.
My point is, there are several things keeping me on iPhone. I like the way it feels in my hand. It is simple to use. It's extremely intuitive. It's a great mp3 player. The handset work very good (almost no problems). At this stage in the game, if you have had an iPhone for over 2 years, it would be tough to justify a switch unless it was absolutely amazing - like, "HOLY CRAP, IT DOES MY LAUNDRY TOO???". These new android phones will not change how Apple does things. They will continue in the direction they are moving, slowly evolving their products so there is always a seamless transition.
Actually just the opposite. because all these other phones are just doing what the iphone does 'a little different' (due to those pesky copyrights and look and feed trademarks etc).
the iphone was a killer because Apple took the market standing of the smart phone and looked at what they thought wasn't being done as well as it could that they could 'do right'. and the buyers agreed.
the Palm, the Droid, just copying the iphone without really improving things. unless you count being tied to something other than ATT as an improvement. I don't. Unlocked to even two carriers would be an improvement in my book. Although their locking does give a point in the favor of the iphone. Just as Apple and ATT were not the first to link up ,they weren't the last. So if you are going to gripe about how wrong it is for A&A better add everyone else to the mix (something I am in favor of so long as the government doesn't try to control the device designs)
Why not make it a World Phone, with both GSM and CDMA.
This is a joke. In that article they don't even give an anonymous source for it. It's only speculation based on nothing but guessing. Suddenly AT&T is going to just give data plans for Blackberries and WM devices? AT&T doesn't do this now. Why should they suddenly start in the future? AT&T is suddenly going to give up their cellular plans in which they make more money off than data plans?
TechCrunch is only giving up garbage that'll get them page hits.

Well then you should be perfectly content with all the apps that you can't get on Android at all.![]()
this should be good..

Its a device, not a shirt. What "novelty"? If you don't like the iPhone, how the hell are you going to like its knock-offs? That's like saying "I hate
butter, but pass me some more margarine!"
Think before you post.

Seriously, what's there to compete with anymore these days? Consumers pretty much base their decisions on the computer platform they are using..
Some of them are "knock-offs" with more features (multitasking being a huge extra).

It's not like the iPhone's hardware is too weak to multi-task. Apple simply doesn't want to implement it since it cuts the battery life by half.

That SnapDragon chip sure looks good. What's Apple's counter to this?
Also - will the future iPhone look like it has a small screen when comparing >4 inches vs 3.5?
