Hmm... I wonder if wiretap laws are different between voice and data channels... I get the feeling Google can't listen to a voice call in order to pitch ads, but they can for data-- don't know for sure, but...

I think very clearly, that wiretapping over Google Voice presents a much nicer streamlined approach then the traditional black room at an AT&T switch center.

this should be good..
I'm getting bored of the iphone and all the apps (that I never use anymore)

the novelty has worn off, and it's time for something better..

although I'm gonna wait and see what it's like and how it matches up, I'm hoping they will have a something better than android 2.0, and the hardware should be very good.. or else I'm stuck with my iphone..

and who ever said that people who have PC's only buy android phones and people who use macs only buy iphones is an idiot.

Here's an article from TechCrunch. They're speculating that it may not be a full-fledged phone, but one driven by VOIP & Google Voice:

http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/18/the-google-phone-may-be-data-only-voip-driven-device/

This is a joke. In that article they don't even give an anonymous source for it. It's only speculation based on nothing but guessing. Suddenly AT&T is going to just give data plans for Blackberries and WM devices? AT&T doesn't do this now. Why should they suddenly start in the future? AT&T is suddenly going to give up their cellular plans in which they make more money off than data plans?

TechCrunch is only giving up garbage that'll get them page hits.

umm what features are you getting with any other phone than the iPhone? Android apps are simply not as good. No offense but you shouldn't be getting bored with it. It's a phone. Unless your boredom will be cured with a higher res. screen with the Droid?

This is the one area I wish Google would improve. Clearly the free turn-by-turn GPS navigation with voice search and street view is not as good as paying for your iPhone navigation on a lower resolution screen.

If you are going to compare apps, compare apps. The blanket statement here should have been, there are more apps for the iPhone. Last I checked, that was a stolen Microsoft Windows pick up line. Yeah, there are millions more applications for Windows, but which ones do you REALLY need. Straight from the horses mouth.

If another person says there are MORE iPhone apps, then they should go out and buy Windows for the same reason.

Sure there are a lot of new phones coming out, but I think we're at a point where the Android phones are eating other Android phones. I don't think there are that many people unhappy with Apple's products.

Most of my music was purchased on CD's long ago, but I do have quite a bit of music that I purchased on the iTunes store. I even have a few movies that I purchased on iTunes. I have hundreds of apps in my iTunes library that aren't necessarily on my phone some are paid for, most are free, but I can add them and remove them at will. I can get updates for free (so far). I just don't see anything coming along that will break my "bond" with iTunes.

My point is, there are several things keeping me on iPhone. I like the way it feels in my hand. It is simple to use. It's extremely intuitive. It's a great mp3 player. The handset work very good (almost no problems). At this stage in the game, if you have had an iPhone for over 2 years, it would be tough to justify a switch unless it was absolutely amazing - like, "HOLY CRAP, IT DOES MY LAUNDRY TOO???". These new android phones will not change how Apple does things. They will continue in the direction they are moving, slowly evolving their products so there is always a seamless transition.

AKA user experience. If any handset mfg wanted to knock out the iphone, they'd have to surpass its user experience. What most of these companies don't get is that it's not just the phone's design or OS - what itunes offers is now a big part of it. Personally I think it would be a better investment to have superior sync/app store software coupled with an average phone. Phones that are more impressive than the iphone have come and gone because they only got 50% of the equation right

I like Google because they're an innovative company. When Google Earth came out, people were saying it's cool but pointless but now that thing is pretty much synonymous with satellite imagery and I see it everywhere. Sometimes you gotta explore market opportunities by having experiments, even if they fail (IE Apple Quicktake).

Actually just the opposite. because all these other phones are just doing what the iphone does 'a little different' (due to those pesky copyrights and look and feed trademarks etc).

the iphone was a killer because Apple took the market standing of the smart phone and looked at what they thought wasn't being done as well as it could that they could 'do right'. and the buyers agreed.

the Palm, the Droid, just copying the iphone without really improving things. unless you count being tied to something other than ATT as an improvement. I don't. Unlocked to even two carriers would be an improvement in my book. Although their locking does give a point in the favor of the iphone. Just as Apple and ATT were not the first to link up ,they weren't the last. So if you are going to gripe about how wrong it is for A&A better add everyone else to the mix (something I am in favor of so long as the government doesn't try to control the device designs)

The Droid is every bit as good as the iPhone IMO, and NOT being tied to AT&T (which has horrible service in Chicago) is a very, very good thing.

Well (this is just my personal experience) I have just gotten bored with everything about the iPhone. The physical looks, the home screen, and the apps.

At the start, I went crazy and bought many apps, but now I've realized that the only apps I actually have a use for is the weather app.

I've just come to a point where the only reason I need a phone is just to make quick calls and stuff, maybe read the news on the net, check and send some quick emails.. I don't spend too much time browsing the net or anything else..

A good analogy would be if I bought a sick Benz, eventually I'm gonna get bored with it, but that does not mean it's not a really good car..

it's like wearing the same clothes all the time, and now everyone and their uncle has an iphone..

but to answer your question, I don't think any other phones offer features that match up to the iphone. (at this point anyway)

Its a device, not a shirt. What "novelty"? If you don't like the iPhone, how the hell are you going to like its knock-offs? That's like saying "I hate
butter, but pass me some more margarine!"

Think before you post.

But...pretty much every modern touch-screen phone is an iPhone knock-off. Are you saying if someone doesn't like the iPhone, he won't like any touch-screen phone?

Some of them are "knock-offs" with more features (multitasking being a huge extra).

Seriously, what's there to compete with anymore these days? Consumers pretty much base their decisions on the computer platform they are using..

That's just plain stupid! If your pipe dream were true then Microsoft Mobil would be number one and not listed down in the "other" category along with the Palm.

You sound like you bought the iPhone because you wanted a toy and the toy now doesn't amuse you as much as it once did. Awwww....

It's not like the iPhone's hardware is too weak to multi-task. Apple simply doesn't want to implement it since it cuts the battery life by half.

But twice as productive ;)

In all seriousness, using the app switcher on a Blackberry saves time. I could care less that it uses battery power. Then again, I DO have that choice of multitasking or not.

Google has the right idea, ip mobile phone is the future and 4G LTE is going to deliver it.

Forget CDMA or GSM. We will have mobile video phones over ip along with video media and all sort of goodies.

This is good news, no more voice plan needed only unlimited data and the pricing will determine its success alone with LTE.

I do not care if its a Google Phone, iPhone or some sort of mobile Touch device, as long as I can establish a call either via WiFi or LTE.

Google GPS makes even more sense now.

:apple: does not want or has not figured out a manner to multi-task and conserve battery life.

:apple: has always shipped rotten battery life for all its mobile devices, and this started with the initial iPod while other mp3 players offered 3x the battery life in comparison during that time span. I see that things still have not changed.

That SnapDragon chip sure looks good. What's Apple's counter to this?
Also - will the future iPhone look like it has a small screen when comparing >4 inches vs 3.5?

1) Their own custom-made chip for iPhones due for release.
2) Hopefully the iPhone has a bigger screen next year. Apps will be suitable for bigger screens but not for smaller screens. Hopefully Apple will gove the iPhone at least a 4" screen next year.

by that logic, I should only drive Fords because they're the ones that revolutionized the industry with the Ford Model-T

I used to drive a 2009 BMW 335i, which I sold for a cheaper, less luxurious, less prestigious Subaru WRX STI. (and not one reason was for financial reasons, although I have a higher disposable income now)

why? because I LIKED it..

it's taste, it's choice,
I don't think you should get all worked up about that..

Google Voice on iPhone?

Wow, I would love to have google voice on my iphone and just a data plan with AT&T or whoever. Or at least, I think I would. Like many users, I use my iPhone primarily for data anyway and very incidentally for voice.
