Just ... no.

Apple is, and has always been, a systems integrator.

macOS itself is a child of BSD Unix via Mach twiddling via NeXT.

All of the hardware that Apple sells... is manufactured by someone else.

The constant need of the toxic fandom to trash Apple is itself a reflection of the toxic online society we've built in the internet age.

How about the M series of chips?

Mind elaborating on which LLMs are more capable than Siri? Gemini can't even read me my text messages.

People aren't wanting to have full conversations with Siri are they?
Pretty much every other ai as Siri isn't a llm. It can barely set a timer, or do a web search.

Don’t do it Apple.
My guess is that what will actually be provided is a generic set of APIs that anyone can plug into to "replace/augment" Siri functionality. This solves a few different problems for Apple

- it prevents the inevitable lawsuits from the EU lunatics about market monopoly

- it allows anyone who feels that Siri is not good enough (and who doesn't care about the likely side effects of a Siri replacement, whether those are privacy, increased power usage or increased cellular usage) to replace Siri. This matches how something like Apple Maps played out, with Apple able to say that the greate advantage of iOS was you could choose best of class, however you chose to define that.

- this avoids them having to bet on any particular AI alternative (Gemini vs OpenAI vs Claude vs Grok vs ...) and then look bad if something happens (that model falls behind? there is some sort of stupid scandal involving the company? whatever)

Apple could announce the retirement of Siri and Gemini to replace it, and I'll be happy with iOS 19.

Definitely NOT always.

Apple Computer used to actually build computers. They didn't make the chips, but they made the circuit boards, they made the cases, they put them together in Apple factories.

Steve Wozniak wrote DOS. An Apple team wrote the Macintosh System Software. Apple designed and manufactured the Macintosh.

The final Apple factory in the US was closed by Steve Jobs. It's unclear if there's any manufacturing still happening in Ireland, the last thing that can be confirmed that plant did was final assembly of custom config Intel iMacs.

So, the current degenerated state of Apple is the fault of... Steve Jobs, and the idiots on the board who didn't fire him immediately upon buying NeXT, or at least relegate him to marketing.

Why not just go directly to the source and buy a Pixel? Now that I think of it, my most valued apps are actually made by Google or another company not Apple: Google Maps, Google Translate, Google Sheets, Tidal, ... The only reason why I use an iPhone is because of my Macs. If I can use Google Drive, then even AirDrop is useless.

I’m kind of a fan of the pixel, but I have to say this is the first time I’ve seen someone actually holding one. 🤷‍♂️

Really? I see them from time-to-time here in the midwest. They will be my choice if I decide to bail on the iPhone.

Wife is a die-hard Pixel user.

How sad is it for Apple to be in the lowly position of having to include other companies’ AI products in your own because your AI sucks so bad.

At the same time I cut Apple some slack because the only reason ANY of these AI’s exist at all, even in their hallucinatory state, is from stolen, personal user data worldwide. And that isn’t Apple’s modus operandi. Nor is burning through capital and revenue with absolutely no profit to show for it like OpenAI and Google.

Too many clowns in here saying "let's not," to an assistant that actually works and works well. Gemini would be a huge step forward for Apple in improving the quality of software on the iPhone.
I suppose I am one of those “clowns” - you know, some people find these capabilities helpful, others don’t - why do you feel compelled to call those who do t want genAI names?

Have you used Siri for that? I haven't ever had an issue setting a time or starting a search. Or reading text messages, or starting navigation.

The only thing Siri sucks for is conversation, in my experience.

Before we lose our cool, this is probably just an alternative to ChatGPT, not a replacement.
That is my assumption as it has been reported apple was/is looking at other chat bots as options to integrate with siri.

Can someone please stop Google from buying their way into wherever they want to go and let consumers decide what they want to use???

We should punish Google by making Siri for Android.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Not sure why there's negativity. It's almost political. If that's the case, I guess I'm a liberal; as in allowance

Wonderful : /
For a long time I’d been writing code without ai until this year. GitHub copilot is an incredible example of integrating ai in a product. It’s really good now I can’t live without it. Having ai in our devices could be amazing too if done right which I’m assume it’ll take years
