Stand your ground Google. Apple and Microsoft can act like little bitches when they don't get what they want.

Its awesome how long the iphone 5 has taken to come out. Apple have to keep going back to the drawing board because the top Android phones keep putting them to shame. Long may Android reign over the smartphone industry continue.

That the heck are you talking about, yes they are free of cost, but you give up your privacy as a trade off. If you don't believe me, go check out the little AdMob flash cookie stored in your computer, that deleting cookies don't erase. I am sorry, I don't want google knowing what I click and when I click it. You are paying a price my friend, just not with your wallet.

man oh man, you probably shouldn't go on most any website as you are being tracked via cookies.

you shouldn't even use your phone, as you're being tracked by your carrier.

and why are you even on facebook? they are the epiphany of mining your data to 3rd party companies (like Zynga).

if you're worried about 'privacy' issues, its probably best to delete your facebook account :p

Anyone who thinks Apple plays a fair game is a clown. I own all Apple computers, but if they don't show consideration for anyone but themselves soon, that will be coming to an end.

This is a silly statement. You do know that its not just Apple, but other companies like Microsoft who have these patents right?

Are you going to switch to Windows? Because that would be the same thing since Microsoft is always in court too protecting patents but those don't make good news stories.

I guess you are stuck with going Linux.

um, last I checked, Android OS has a lot more innovation going on than iOS by a clear margin. iOS is just starting to get notification implementation. LOL

they're also just starting to make LED notifications on the new iPhone. Thats like 3-4 years too late there Apple.

And btw, the Google Labs were shut down because it was hardly used, and Google is focusing on their core products. You make it seem as though Google Labs were an actual scientific research facility working on top secret skunkworks projects. LOL

Google offers a LOT of productivity driven products, for FREE.

Let me ask all you Apple fankids out there, what did you get from Apple that was 'productivity driven' that was 'free.'

I'll list just three that Google offered to the end user that was free
- Gmail (the first to offer large storage space for email accounts. If it weren't for Google, you'd be paying monthly fees on crappy hotmail/yahoo mail)
- Google Maps (it made MapQuest look like childs play. Oh, and free Navigation application, along with traffic intelligence. Thanks Google! Didn't have to pay a dime for that! On iOS you have to pay for a 3rd party app that kills your battery life!)
- Google Music (Apple is making you pay for your storage, Google offers free storage)

Just a little fact for you. Google is an advertising, search engine company. This is where their profit comes from.
You realize that Google knows more about you than your mom. Yeah, you're not paying money to Google but rather paying your private information that Google uses for their algorithms. Google is just using you as a piece of DATA. Little wake up call.

We shall see, we shall see.

As for the whole bogus patents claim, the courts will bear that one out for us and we'll also see if google is in the right on that one

So let me get this straight, Google is angry somebody else than them bought the patents? Isn't the point of a free market that anyone can compete for the same product?

Not only that, but Google was bidding on these patents, and stopped at $4 and was not the highest bidder. If they did not want to cry about not acquiring these patents, they should have dug a little deeper into their pocket!

End of story!

Patents are pure evil. They simply protect private property and make your innovation for you only no matter what you benefitted from. May those same patent holders erase all knowledge of free and public science education and information passed on from generation to generation with no restriction on it's use. You owe history an enormous deal, payback can be in the form of freeing your ideas like those in the past did.

That's incredibly naive. There would be zero incentive to innovate if there's a very good chance that after years of toil and/or money spent, once you perfect a product and bring it to market, someone will swoop in and copy it and sell it for less. Patents protect the innovators so they can profit while the idea is new, then they expire and go into the public domain. But without that initial protected period, innovation would die. The early inventors of the patent system realized this.

Like Google or hate them, they are not patent fiends and do less to protect their current products and more to create new ones than many of their competitors/other big tech companies.

No, they just shamelessly copy products using insider information such as Eric Schmidt acquired while "working" on Apple's board of directors. I guess he feels that information should be "open", so it's OK.

No ****. Welcome to the entire tech industry. iAds, Ping, etc.

Its funny to how everyone here is bitching about Apple but fails to realize that MICROSOFT AND RIM (and I believe a few others) are in on it too, its not just Apple.

But since this forum is full of blind Apple hatred I'm not surprised.

That being said I think that only NEW products from patents after changing hands should be allowed to be licensed. I don't think existing things should apply.

By that I mean unless Google drastically changes Android they shouldn't have to pay anything since they didn't before the patent was bought, if that makes sense.

Wow, I actually agree with you on this.
1) look into ghostery.com; BAM no more cookies or website tracking.
2) I'm not worried too much about the carriers, they prove to lack competence and forsight.
3) Facebook; yes they aim to be even worse than Google in data mining/adverstising so I rarely use.

Pick your poison

There's Apple who likely bought a whole bunch of 4G patents so as to protect their forays into next generation telcom when things will get *really* interesting. Besides the Google competition, there's an endless list of IP patent trolls out there just waiting for Apple and their billions in profits to wander into their sites.

And then there's Google who gives away an operating system and the business model that they "borrowed" from Apple (remember Microsoft vs Netscape) so they can more efficiently gather consumer's personal information and data, create ads and sell it all to the highest bidder.

Do no evil indeed.

The ENTIRE tech industry poches people from other companies. Apple does it just as much as the other guy. Apple fanboys really need to stop defending Apple like they are a innocent little kid.

Really, honestly, this is the most bourgeois bullsh** I have ever come across, whining about such petty things.

Here is my phone:

Here is my camera:

And here is how I read (note: I don't eat eBooks, ergo I don't 'consume' them - UGH!):

big-viewer-3G-01-lrg._V188698726_.jpg

The handsets may be seen as 'smart', I'm just not so sure about the brainwashed masses buying into them.

1x Nokia 1800 = £7.95
1x Amazon Kindle 3 WiFi = £111
1x Fuji F300EXR camera = £150

That's a grand total of £268.95... and I still have change left to buy memory cards, eBooks & telephone credit, and each of those devices does one thing only, but without confusion, distraction, hassle or fuss.

Who's smart now? :p

Eh, you do know that you can refuse cookies right? You don't have to just blindly accept them all to use the internet.

It will still work without them.

In theory no they shouldn't but at the same token I could easily see MS and Apple using these patents to make going LTE very costly if you are not running their OS and using them to squeeze out everyone else.

What makes this seem rather hostile is the MS, RIM and Apple teaming up. 2 of those companies have a history of using what ever power they can to force out competitors (aka Apple and MS)

Also it not that this forum is full of Apple haters but I think you have some APple haters but more you have the group that Apple can do no wrong so anyone who does not see exactly like them is automatically an Apple hater.

Voice of reason has long been gone from these forums. It quickly turns to insults.

We deserve competition where companies actually compete against each other and be innovative.

As for anyone who thinks Apple doe snot play fair: Apple would have gone decades ago if they did not and you would be listening to your portable CD player and using a computer with 60 buttons for multimedia and a mouse with 12 buttons. No iPad or anything, no Windows 7. So they play whatever game they HAVE to to survive. If you don't understand it: come and work for some of these companies, they are all total bastards.
Your perception of of an alternate Apple-less reality is disturbing and baseless.

And FYI having more than 1 button on a mouse is extremely useful.

Oh please. Cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it. That is life. If you aren't liked by a lot of people, they are going to gang up on you and try to take you down. Either learn to win on your own or just throw in the towel. Actually try to make something innovative and new and move on, stop whining about what has already happened.
