Apple is turning in the best product and marketing company...soon, i hope, into the best stable OS also
It's true that every OS made by Apple took a massive quality hit in the last years.

But at the same time, I keep wondering. Despite all these bugs they have now, are they still the most stable OS out there? I wouldn't say Windows is more stable than macOS, I wouldn't say Android is more stable than iOS...

Sick of hearing about RCS.
Who the heck outside of America is even using ANY built-in messaging app at all these days?
RotW just uses WhatsApp, or Messenger, or similar.
I haven't sent a 'message' using SMS/iMessage in about five years. I can't name anybody who has.
It's a complete non-issue. Presumably except in America.

Is it me only or nobody heard about Car Crash Detection on Pixels which had already problem with dialing 112?
Considering it's Pixel-only:
The company is now at 2 percent North American market share, having shipped 800,000 devices for Q2 2022.
24 Aug 2022
Might as well not have that feature at all.

... Remind me again of why (and when) Google got into the phone business in the first place...

Google got into phones because they were scared of *Microsoft* taking over in the mobile space.

Crazy, right?

:p

The Day Google Had to 'Start Over' on Android

Google was building a secret mobile product to fend off chief rival Microsoft. Then Apple announced the iPhone, and everything changed.

I can't say I have seen any videos of people crashing their cars just to test out Google's own crash detection system, much less be highlighted / credited in any news article. I don't think there have been any reports of just how reliable or accurate it has been either.

So I can only say it's a little sad that the only way Google can draw attention to their own accomplishments is to wait until after Apple does and popularises it, then they go back and try to claim credit for having come up with it first. Like, if it was really that good, why is literally nobody talking about it?
That's easy. A high percentage of iPhone users are BMW drivers. They are more likely to crash out of carelessness, flip over on the icy highway because they think AWD is magic, don't use turn signals. Etc. That's a joke....maybe. Also Apple probably puts more efforts into using these accidents as marketing than anyone else. Apple is a marketing machine and Google just uses algorithms to sell you things. Either way, Google has a lot of firsts that go under the radar. Keeps Apple on its toes,.

Actually have to agree with Google here. It takes Apple a while to add features that are already on Android. They are very stubborn and arrogant. They take their time and do whatever they want but some people admire that about Apple.

Not hating on Apple here before anyone gets upset lol. I have an iPhone and love it but at the same time I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Android. I'm not loyal to multi billion/trillion dollar companies. Competition is good and I'll go wherever I feel is the best for me. I didn't own an iPhone between the 4S and 12 because iPhone/iOS didn't suit me.

As for RCS, I think Apple should support it but I can see why they don't want to as it would make iMessage obsolete and that's a selling point for iPhone.

People still buy Pixel phones in 2022?!?

Not many people do.

Soon we'll get the list of quarterly smartphone sales... and as usual the Top 5 will include Samsung, a few Chinese manufacturers, and Apple.

Google Pixel will be buried deep in the "Others" category.

Samsung sells more phones in a week than Google sells Pixels in an entire year.

Or something to that effect.

:p

Genuine question: is there some limitation that holds off third party developers (e.g., Google) to create an app that implements RCS?
No.
But this quarrel is not about plain RCS, but Google's proprietary flavor of RCS. All the E2EE-stuff and other features exclusive to their Messages-app runs over Google's servers.
Very disingenuous of them.

People still buy Pixel phones in 2022?!?
Of course they do. It's not one of the best selling brands out there but yeah people still do buy them...

I've owned some of them and they are good devices especially if you want stock Android or at least Google's vision of it before the likes of Samsung slap on their own stuff. In fact, if I ever go back to Android then it'll be to a Pixel phone. I used to buy Nexus phones but they were more aimed at developers. I like Samsung's hardware but their version of Android is a bloated mess.

Wasn’t Nokia the first one to introduce Always On Screen on their Lumia phones?
Yes. I had it on my Nokia 925 running Windows 8 Mobile.

Incredible, incredible phone. Facebook and Instagram apps were designed specifically for it, and were the best versions of it. Then FB and Instagram decided to make it less special by moving towards the "standard" vertical layout of their iOS and Android apps, and it wasn't as good.

Anyway, it was my first taste of AOD, and it was probably the first to market.

Great for Apple, yes. But surely moves like that are bad for the consumer? Volvo invented the 3-point seatbelt but famously deliberately didn't patent it, can you imagine if they had?
Yes, i can imagine. There would still be a lot of cars with seatbelts and Volvo would have received a lot of money from licensing the technology until the patented technology went into the public domain!

best app are made by the best developers, and those are on iOS/ipadOS side
Looooooool. Apple has the best hardware but you must be crazy to think they have the best software. The Mmmm software is in such a bad state, almost abysmal. Everything fails, lots of bugs everywhere, lots of basic functions missing. They took 8 Apple Watch versions to introduce real sleep tracking that a $99 Fitbit could do half a decade ago…

text messaging will never be standardized as long as there is user data to siphon. I’ll stick with the company least likely to violate my privacy.

Competition is good. Remember when iPhone didn’t have copy paste?
I don’t think competition is the reason why the iPhone gained copy paste in its early days. iPhone didn’t have a lot of things it was set out to have eventually via software or hardware updates, but Steve Jobs focused it on it doing a few things and doing it very well, and slowly iterate from there with a roadmap.

In my experience, I wouldn't say that macOS is more stable than Windows. I find both of them very stable.

I don't know about Android, since I only use iOS / iPadOS devices.

Google makes the best apps but Apple has the best OS and user experience.
Agree. I really wish apple "copies" the Google TV app, much more intuitive and well organised compared to Apple TV app... I mean, it's impossible to star a movie/series as "favourite" or put it in a list. The library is for purchased movies only... it's a mess.
