Hope it's way improved an can actually work in the dark at bed.
I have many issues with Face ID recognizing me in the dark even less while I'm in bed. Another hilarious situation is that I haven't touched my iPhone X for a week and it totally forgot my face and had to reset Face ID. Crazy.Interesting considering Face ID uses infrared so in theory it should work in the dark. As for in bed, gravity is probably making your face different enough for Face ID to fail to recognize you. That's why it's better to have several options since each have their pros and cons and work better for different situations.
Fingerprints are NOT more secure. And they don’t work with gloves.First of all, this quote makes it seem like no one is capable of engineering something like the pitiful and ugly TrueDepth camera. I mean, maybe, just maybe Samsung/Google/whatever aren't interested in gimmicks like Apple is. That's what FaceID is. It's a gimmick. Fingerprint is way more secure and easier and companies like Samsung are investing in under-glass fingerprint readers—something Apple FAILED to do because they can't engineer their way out of a paper bag.
I have no issues with Face ID in the dark. Touch ID always was twitchy for me. It was better than other fingerprint scanners but still not as reliable as Face ID. Plus this time of year I use gloves a lot. Face ID works better.I have many issues with Face ID recognizing me in the dark even less while I'm in bed. I'll stick with a fingerprint scanner, especially now that's coming to the screen it's way more convenient, fast and secure.
Yeah I have to agree that while using gloves Face ID can be more convenient, but since I don't wear them it doesn't make a different to me, Touch ID was also a mess most of the times it wouldn't recognize my finger and I would end up entering the code, now it seems to be more stable with iOS 12.I have no issues with Face ID in the dark. Most of these are cases where people “trained” Face ID by repeatedly entering the code after Face ID failed to open with the other person’s face. Apple itself admitted that there is a 1 in 50,000 chance that Touch ID will render a false positive, compared to 1 in 1 million for Face ID (Microsoft claims 1 in 100,000 for its facial recognition system for Windows). Also, it’s far easier to lift a fingerprint from another source and use it to fool Touch ID.False. Touch ID is more secure since it has much lower false positives than Face ID. Glove is only at most a seasonal issue that can be supplemented with more secure iris scanner.
Apple don't like these videos so it will probably disappear like the boyfriend/girlfriend one but there are still many of these on YouTube under ''Face ID fail".
I'd like to see phones offer both options. Sometimes Face ID is more convenient and sometimes the fingerprint scanner is. Most of the time I prefer fingerprint scanning, but when my hands are wet or I am cooking and don't want to touch anything but food, I have appreciated being able to rap the screen on my Xr can with a knuckle and unlocking it with Face ID to quickly check the phone.

FaceID needs 0 light to work. Go to Apple if you're having problems. I use mine in pitch black, daily.Hope it's way improved an can actually work in the dark at bed.
Obviously Apple is years ahead of the totality of android.MR: "Right now, there are Android devices that are using 2D facial recognition techniques to replace a passcode, but none of those systems are based on 3D face scans like Face ID. Facial recognition used by Android right now is more rudimentary and easily fooled, which is why Android devices continue to use fingerprint sensors for operations that need more security like payments."
This is simply untrue. Some Huawei phones (P20 Pro) have the same face recognition system as iPhone. It was released soon after iPhone X (March 2018) so all claims about Apple being "years ahead" of Android in this regards are bogus.
Like I said, I like both. Different strokes for different folks at different times. We have to stop assuming our most common use case or circumstance applies to everyone else.My hands are sweaty or wet very often. Touch ID never works because of this. Not to mention you can turn off attention awareness so your eyes don't need to be looking at the screen. Face ID is just far superior. i can't believe people miss Touch ID

Do you see fingerprint scanner security as an issue?Fingerprints are NOT more secure. And they don’t work with gloves.
I never understood the issue with the notch aesthetic. Before I had a XR and especially now that I’ve lived with the notch for nearly 2 months. It doesn’t bother me and I like this it differentiates aesthetically from most other smartphones and previous gen iPhones. But most importantly, I like the security of Face ID that comes inside the notch.1. pitiful and ugly. Pitiful. Hmm, it works and works well. I don't understand how that is pitiful. Ugly. If you're talking about "the notch"... This is how true depth is implemented, not true depth itself. You can't really see the true depth camera to call it ugly
2. maybe other companies aren't interested in gimmicks. You mean like having the screen on the edge of your phone or a punchout for a camera? Those aren't gimmicks but putting a truedepth camera in is? And why do these so called "better" companies want the same gimmick... Maybe, just maybe it's not a gimmick.
3. fingerprint is not way more secure, please cite where you get this from. Here's my claim, "Touch ID is a gimmick compared to Face ID."
4. an investment in under the glass FP readers isn't implementation of it. Apple eliminated the paper bag and took a different path. Your other companies stayed in the paper bag for 2 more years and are just getting out with a less reliable system.
