I guess one way to get rid of Pixel 3's huge notch is add old fashioned big bezels on top and bottom of the phone.
Gross. After a couple years now, everyone has at least warmed up to the idea of a notch or camera cutout, but bezels? Nope. People want those to be history now (myself included).

How can it be loosing a piece from the middle of the screen? It has all of the sensors and hardware in it that is needed for the phone to work.

If Google are no good at hardware then there's not a lot going for them, is there?
What are you talking about? Google has a golden goose with their ad model. That's what they are good at and what drives 90% of their revenue.

Yeah, except I have actual real-world feedback from users of the systems I've worked with indicating how much they're used and why they're not. So I'm not making a prediction because I don't like something.

This will be a gimmick and I'm confident I'll be proven right.
Just like how Blackberry had actual real word feedback from users of their phones and touchscreens indicating which they prefer. So they weren't making a prediction because they didn't like something.

Stop knocking on something you don't know the details of how Google is going to fully implement it. It might be good it might be bad, but don't pass judgement until you know more info.

Before Apple had released the first widely known Multi Touch screen phone, people did not like touch screens on mobile devices all that much. Same can be possibly said in the future for tihs..."before Google released air gestures, people did not like air gestures on devices all that much".

That's the dumbest thing I've read.

If Blackberry had listened to what customers actually wanted maybe their phones wouldn't have gone the way of the dinosaur. Clearly they DIDN'T listen, based on what happened.

You must have trouble comprehending. Just like how BlackBerry listened to current feedback instead of thinking of the future when the iphone was just released and were wrong. You can be wrong listening to current feedback when Google releases this air gesture feature.

It's not difficult to understand; try rereading until you do.

Shortsightedness is what have caused many big companies to fail. The same short sightedness you currently have.

BMW has this cool feature to switch tracks, change the volume, etc using air gestures. It seemed gimmicky at first but is actually much easier to use than a touch screen or knob without having to take your eyes off the road.

I understand that you believe once Apple is not releasing it, its automatically crap. So I wont argue further or reply to any of your further post on this thread.

P.S. I am not saying it is going to be great or it's going to be horrible.

I wish Apple would have hid the lenses under the glass in the back bump like Google did. To me it looks much better. I’d still prefer the Pro over the Pixel though.
Well, I think Apple did it for a reason, emphasizing those cameras. It's instantly recognizable as an iPhone 11 (pro) that way. All the other phones try to hide, so Apple does the opposite. With phones looking more or less the same from most angles, this is one of few ways Apple could differentiate itself. And the notch too, of course, has been a great talking point. So, maybe not all that pretty, but brilliant marketing choices of Apple.

Ah, yes, the old fallback (shortsighted, trouble comprehending, if it’s not Apple it’s crap). I have a BMW X7 (actually my wife’s). All the gestures can be used with steering wheel buttons. Don’t even have to take a hand off the wheel to perform functions. You should have picked a better example.

Then why don't you just get a Pixel and move onto a Google forum? I just can't comprehend spending any part of your day on an Apple-centric site when you clearly hate the company so much. Do what you want, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
Because Apple makes more than phones? Or they like to read about phones from Apple?

I sound like a broken record, but here goes. Many people on this site are Apple users but might not be IPhone users. I'm not sure why that's so hard for many people here to comprehend.
They would rather have a echo chamber.

I've usually been reserved... but the facial system implementation looks earily similar to Apple's. Also, bezel on top and bottom to "hid" them.

That back tho... screams iPhone 11 Pro square notch.

This complaint is like saying race cars all look the same. Yeah they do because they’re designed for the same purpose. The back looks like that because engineers decided it was an efficient way to package the cameras. Who cares anyway? All these phones look the same because they’re all mature products.

Yes, it's called being a YouTube creator, photographer, and so on
I'm a photographer and I just sync my shutter speed to the speed of the display. Easy-peasy. Everyone who does production work knows this and most YouTubers and professionals use real cameras such as the Sony a7 or a6xxx series or things such as the Red line of cinema cameras, for example.

BTW I hate it when YouTube videos are somebody recording another display with reflections all over it. I've noticed it's most often flat earthers, lol. I went down a rabbit hole with that last year because I couldn't believe so many exist and how they twist science and logic—just wanted to clarify that I'm not one of them.

That’s a lot of hardware up top and looks pretty crowded. The Android device does look like a Star Wars droid unit.

This phone is going to have a stellar camera and the rest of the specs will check the boxes along with the secure face unlock. It looks more visually attractive than the iPhone 11 when you factor in the rear. Apple makes wonderful devices and the operating system is great, but this Pixel looks like Google has finally put the right package together. We will have to see how it is reviewed.

Wonder if their FaceID implementation will embarrass Apple as much as the Pixel 3 did with photography last year. Can’t wait see FaceID on iPhone 12 now.

Also went down that hole a couple years back just to see how people can think that way. Still not sure lol

I wonder how:

  1. Hand gestures work when the phone is sitting down on the table
  2. Who actually uses hand gestures to begin with
  3. How the phone parses data and how much it uploads to Google’s cloud to make them more money by spying on us
I had them on a Moto X 2014 and really like it. Motorola was ahead with that infrared tech at the time.
