Well, I think Apple did it for a reason, emphasizing those cameras. It's instantly recognizable as an iPhone 11 (pro) that way. All the other phones try to hide, so Apple does the opposite. With phones looking more or less the same from most angles, this is one of few ways Apple could differentiate itself. And the notch too, of course, has been a great talking point. So, maybe not all that pretty, but brilliant marketing choices of Apple.

Honestly... The final finished product is much better than the leaks. The way Apple housed the lenses is actually pretty cool. I love the colored rings around the lenses and love the entire glass back.

iPhones are going to be instantly recognizable. I’m totally ok with the design.

Better display then the 11 Pro (resolution, PPI, and refresh rate)
Bigger battery than the 11 Pro
Better camera than the 11 Pro
More RAM than the 11 Pro
8x zoom vs 2x zoom on the 11 Pro
New night and motion modes vs 11 Pro only having a new night mode
More secure version of FaceID plus in-display fingerprint sensor making it the most secure phone ever
Half the cost of the 11 Pro

The Pixel 4 is definitely good competition. Still deciding which way to go myself, Note 10, 11 Pro or Pixel 4, but one other thing that caught my eye was that face id can work in any orientation, and will be able to be set to unlock from any angle, instantly when picking it up.

Not for everyone, but for me, personally, something I liked the sound of a lot as I have major issues w/ my X now. Slow, cumbersome unlocks, and when in bed just downright terrible now.

Contender for top four phones of 2019.

Galaxy Note 10+ (productivity features)
Asus ROG Phone 2 (gaming centric, true 120Hz OLED, 6000mAh battery, stereo front facing speakers)
Pixel 4 (AI and computational smarts)
iPhone 11 Maxi Pro (reinventions)

I think OnePlus may be in the running also for the value proposition

Can’t be a contender running an inferior ecosystem (Android).

Apple and Samsung major competitor is a bold statement, given , that Pixel line is officially available in less than 15 countries world wide, this is not even on the same universe as Galaxy and iPhone devices. But I get it, USA thinks, nothing exists outside it’s boarders. Availability is the real problem with Google devices...

Remember when the iPhone launched? People, especially blackberry users were saying nobody will use a touch screen over physical controls because, unlike physical controls, touchscreens are not 100% accurate. There’s no feedback when it recognizes your touch...unless you want to call haptic vibration feedback however haptic vibration doesn't mean the right thing was touched. You actually have to look at your device to see if it recognized your touch or if you touch the right thing.

Why would I look at the screen and touch to decline a call when I can feel for the end call button on my phone to decline instead (and be sure it works)?

Sounds familiar?

No one ever said that. You can't just make up claims that people have "said" to fit your own narrative.

I use both Apple and Google products and I think its hilarious how people point the finger of who's copying who.

Example for laughs:
Pixel 4 will have their version of Face ID, omg Google sucks!!
Android has iOS style gestures now, omg Google really sucks!! (Old webOS users are crying)
Pixel 4 has a 90hz screen, they must be copying Apple somehow, maybe when the 12 comes out and it will be better!!
Google's device photos have shown better detail since the Nexus 6p and 5x than Apple devices....DEEP FUSION WILL BE THE BEST JUST WAIT ITS SIMILAR TO GOOGLE'S HDR BUT ITS INNOVATION NOT COPYING
Google's video capture sucks, they must be stealing your data at the same time!!
Remember 3D Touch and Google made it a long press? OMG Apple is copying Google now! LOSERS!
My Android phone has more ram and a bigger battery, suck it Apple!! (We all know android isnt optimized like iOS)
I can root my Android device and make it semi usable for 5 years muhaha...my Apple device gets official updates for about 5 years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Haha, you sound like a “speccie” who seems to have no clue about usability. Let me guess... Student who is still competing with other who has the biggest?

Nobody:

Google: A "spectral sensor" that's designed to account for light flicker when filming an LCD display

Does anybody actually do this who isn't a creep trying to record nudes off of Snapchat?

...that's an oddly specific use-case and is obvious hyperbole at the same time...

not sure if you're just being annoying or you're diverting attention from the fact that you might be the creep...

I don't think a lot of you are aware how Googles Project Soli could change everything. Including eliminating touch screens and moving parts on any electronic device. Now it's on one of their phones. This is innovation!

If it's not made from 100% recycled aluminium it's not innovation

I believe the word you’re looking for is “iterative”.
Also, half of this irrelevant or incorrect.

The Pixel 4 seems really tempting (especially the 90Hz screen), but I was really hoping for it to come with an in-screen fingerprint reader and the soli face-unlock system. There are just certain situations, where I don't want to use FaceID (iPhone on the table, etc.). I hope Apple is going this way for the 2020 iPhone, because right now it's not the iPhone that's keeping me at Apple. It's much more the Apple Watch and how the whole ecosystem interacts & works.

Pixel phones are great on paper. Their software experience is second to none on Android.
But google have a strange habit of completely borking every release with its next software update (normally extreme battery drain) but not fixing the issue with further updates despite the avid Android community identifying which exact background process is causing the problem.

If you’re in the market for Android, you buy a OnePlus. Those phones are amazing.

All they ever do is copy apple and never do it well
They are more customisable than Apple (a good thing I guess) and in the end easier to use for some people, but nothing awe inspiring. Just another vendor lock-in job, yet some things on the Pixel phones have been really great like their camera and camera software, mapping / navigation, general audio and phone quality, decent battery life and up-to-date Android.
That said, most new features on most phones now are incremental at best, some could be even called downgrades (losing the headphone port, what a pain!) . The cheap phones people have now, all copies of Apple admittedly, are so cheap now that they have become a commodity. I hope therefore the Apple is able to pivot again into new and uncharted territory regarding tech. The camera looks interesting, but moving into augmented reality seems the most obvious choice as it could be the next big thing in education and training.

People say Apple doesn't innovate, but here's Google copying just about everything Apple has done recently. Apple is still the trend-setter.

You’re so annoyingly ignorant. Apple has lagged Google in so many areas its not funny. Maps, personal Assitant, computational photography, cloud, etc.

on the hardware front Iphone may still be the most well rounded phone but it’s no longer a leader on screen tech and camera. I recently picked up a note 10+ and was amazed by how much better the screen looks compared to my xs. I also got tired of iPhones thick bezels, slow charging, lighting cable, and small battery which are only being addressed with iphone 11 pro. The last Apple innovation was Face ID? What has it been since? Seems to me Apple is playing catch up more often than not these days.

Reason Number One not to preorder iPhones until everyone has revealed their goods. I reeeeealy like the notchless design with the larger top bezel. Much much much better.

That depends on if you are willing to switch ecosystems.

Personally, I don't care one iota about the stupid notch and I don't think tons of people do either. I care more about performance, stability and usability. There are many features of Android that I like but also many issues that totally justify staying with iOS.

I would love to see "innovation" but at this point I don't see ANYONE actually innovating, it's all simply iterative. Features that android has had are only "new" if you switch systems, but then something iOS has that android does not is now missing.

I really don't know what else I expect from this device (or others), if someone wants to tell me what innovation they would like to see (real innovation, not "remove the notch") I would love to see other ideas.

Yes they did. You cant just make up claims that people did not say it to fit your own narrative. If you were not too young to remember I cant believe how you can not remember since it was a huge debate in the tech world. Either you weren't into tech back then or you have Apple blinders on.
