Apple’s best in class hardware and UX with Google’s best in class services.
Umm let’s forgot that they launched with yahoo providing the iPhone’s email (I can barely believe this) and let’s try and pretend also that Liquid Glass is best in class UX!

30-40% of the iPhone BOM is made by Samsung including the screen, flash, and ram.
Apple using Google and Google making iPhone better is how business is supposed to work. The companies don’t care about it, nor should they. Why do you?
Of course, it could be a lot higher than $1 billion, but that’s the figure being circulated right now. And you say they don’t have much to lose, I mean, they’re essentially helping their competitor with this to improve their software and hardware. That’s why I said money can’t be the only motive. Apple is desperate for a better Siri, so Google could have raised the price much higher.
The next logical step: merge iOS and Android? All the features of iOS with the "security" of Android?
Same. It reminds me of when Google was the default maps app on iOS, then Apple released their own version which was trash for a long time. The order of operations is just reversed this time around.
Great point. There’s no independent privacy audit that proves that Apple does what it says. It’s just brand trust.

Apple and Google today announced that Google Gemini will help power not only a more personalized version of Siri, but a range of future Apple Intelligence features.
"Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology," the companies said, in a statement. "These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year."
Apple is "excited about the innovative new experiences" that the partnership will unlock, but the statement did not provide any details about specific features.
It is unclear if Gemini will help power any existing Apple Intelligence features, such as Writing Tools, Image Playground, and Notification Summaries.
Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers, with Apple promising industry-leading privacy standards.
The more personalized version of Siri is expected to be introduced with iOS 26.4 in March or April, following a lengthy delay. The new capabilities will include better understanding of a user's personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls. For example, Apple showed an iPhone user asking Siri about their mother's flight and lunch reservation plans based on info from the Mail and Messages apps.

I think this is great news in the short term, hopefully in the meantime Apple work on their own in the background that they can eventually transition to.
Sounds to me like they are wanting to lean on Google until the proverbial bubble bursts.

Maybe Google should just buy Apple and get it over with. Apple is clearly changing and morphing away from what made them unique.

From a privacy perspective, this is a really bad decision. I've also encountered many instances where Gemini had to correct itself after reading ChatGPT's answer to the same question.

Honestly not surprising. Building this kinda stuff seems to require lots of data, something Apple doesn’t have a lot of due to their privacy stance. It’s the same reason Apple never got into search engines.
Brilliant yes, I already pay for Google AI Pro alongside my iCloud+ sub. Combine things for me please.
Tim Cook has done a great job but this is clearly a leadership failure to not have understood the importance of AI and been ready with your own. And it's not even that hard now. There are new LLMs daily that would do all Apple needs. I hope Apple is able to get their own stuff together...this is an embarrassment.
