If Apple cares so much about privacy, as they say they do, they why do they set Google as the default search engine in Safari, on both macOS and iOS?
Because it's literally free cash being thrown to Apple (12 Billion). And if you don't sign in to gmail and/or use private browsing then theres little they can do to track as easily. I'm pretty sure MacRumors has way more info about me at this point than Google since I never am logged in nor use their services regularly.

Lol Google’s list is probably twice as long as Facebook’s, this is gonna play out insanely great. Apple has done this on purpose probably solely to expose Google and Facebook.

This is not surprising to anyone in the slightest. Do they think we have forgotten that they were violating their software agreements with Apple and gathering precise location data from iPhone users who weren't even using the Google Maps app and said nothing until they got caught??? This is part of what encouraged Apple's more aggressive location tracking policy. Google can shove it at this point.

For 99% users Apps Auto-update, so they don’t even notice.

Even if they did, 99% won’t care about it.

Evenaually Apple will just say Apps not updated after a certain point in time provides a secruity risk . . . and Apple would not be wrong. Large app developers should keep their apps secure by releasing security updates every so often.

This would put google in their place without directly attacking google. Zero way for google to claim Apple is the bad guy .

Does anyone care? Anyone concerned with privacy already deleted FaceBook. Honestly that tweet is some of the only negative attention I’ve seen.

Google should just rip the bandaid off like FaceBook did. They’ll quickly learn that nobody using their products cares at all.
I hate to believe that this is true but sadly I think it is. Google has conditioned people to give away their data for a free app just like Walmart has conditioned shoppers to give up service and quality for the low low price. Facebook has just ridden on Googles Train tracks and sped up the train.

For the people here bashing Google's privacy issues, I wonder how many of these apps you use daily?

Why not delete them until Google comes into compliance and updates the apps?
I checked. I have 3 Google LLC developer apps on my iPhone: Google Drive, Google Translate, and Google Voice. I also have Waze, which is under a separate Waze Inc. developer account (and has also not been updated in 4 weeks).

Waze and Translate are the only apps that would seem to offer them data that they wouldn't otherwise have. They have Google Drive and Google Voice data merely by virtue of hosting the services. (And I am not a heavy user of either.)

I stopped using google's apps years ago.
I also periodically check my home, preferences and other folders to make sure companies like google have left nothing masty on my iMac.

I only use a few google online services and I make sure I used them in a sandboxed safari window so no data is being stolen by google.

I hope the facebook lawsuit by all the states is successful so it can be used as a precedent to go after google also.

Since Apple is all about privacy, why do they accept billions of dollars from Google to make it the default search engine? Why not go with someone else? Shouldn't they use someone like Duck Duck Go instead? According to Macrumors members, Google is digital satan.
Easy way to make a quick buck, plus people can just change it if they want.

One of the biggest issues I have is many places require 2 step verification and they only accept google's method of doing it. I always say no to this as doing that makes my data less secure than if I did it.

I hope a non google standard for 2 step verification is adopted by everyone so we can feel safe without being forced into giving google our data.

Apple preaches non stop about privacy and acts holier than thou. They shouldn't want to accept money from someone who is anti-privacy, right?

Apple shares your "advertiser ID" with Google. That, in and of itself, allows them to track you across the net.
