One of the biggest issues I have is many places require 2 step verification and they only accept google's method of doing it. I always say no to this as doing that makes my data less secure than if I did it.

I hope a non google standard for 2 step verification is adopted by everyone so we can feel safe without being forced into giving google our data.
Do they really only accept Google Authenticator or is that merely the example they give for a TOTP app? I use LastPass Authenticator. It uses the exact same TOTP protocol and is compliant with every Google Authenticator site that I've seen. And there are other compliant apps as well for generating TOTP codes, including Microsoft's.

Or are you talking about push notices through Google apps?

Interestingly, Fast Company noticed that Google has yet to update any of its iPhone and iPad apps since Apple's requirement went into effect, with apps like Gmail, Chrome, and YouTube having last been updated on December 7, 2020 or prior.

This would be the flip side of EVERYONE updating their apps prior to iOS 14 coming out so that the unwashed masses wouldn't see they all had the clipboard scraping "bug".

With the holiday period being in play and a variety of Google apps not really being updated too frequently, hard to say much one way or another just yet. Let's see what happens in January.

. . . Apple has done this on purpose probably solely to expose Google and Facebook. . .
Well, seems to me that Google and Facebook are the elephants in the room, but the issue exists with practically every website or app that is being used. We have a long ways to go before this will be under control (if it ever will be), but at least this is a start (I hope).

I checked. I have 3 Google LLC developer apps on my iPhone: Google Drive, Google Translate, and Google Voice. I also have Waze, which is under a separate Waze Inc. developer account (and has also not been updated in 4 weeks).

Waze and Translate are the only apps that would seem to offer them data that they wouldn't otherwise have. They have Google Drive and Google Voice data merely by virtue of hosting the services. (And I am not a heavy user of either.)

I totally understand that some of the Google-owned apps have no equivalent or alternatives. For example, I still have YouTube app on my iPhone, and only use it when needed..... because there really is ZERO rival or competitor to YouTube.

But in all other cases... I prefer a non-Google alternative than using Google-whatever. For example, Apple Maps is more than good enough, so my iPhone has never installed GoogleMaps.

Feels like Google will manage to get all the labels possible

Waze includes better real time information about road closures, animals, debris, police, other emergency vehicles, and crashes.

It's not needed all the time, but it can save you an hour when the road is completely blocked ahead and you can just make a different turn now to bypass it.

I stopped using google's apps years ago.
I also periodically check my home, preferences and other folders to make sure companies like google have left nothing masty on my iMac.

I only use a few google online services and I make sure I used them in a sandboxed safari window so no data is being stolen by google.

I hope the facebook lawsuit by all the states is successful so it can be used as a precedent to go after google also.

The US lawsuits against Facebook won't really do much because US regulators often lack teeth, it will end up with a minor slap on the wrist.

Now let's talk about the European Union regulators..... oh boy, they are the vicious zealots that really can defang both FB and Google.

Those thives (google) probably don’t even know what they are stealing, so it might take them time to fill out those forms.

Well perhaps if Google and Facebook and others decide the want to put their nose in the air and not update their apps in defiance, this could open up the playground for new opportunities for new players.
Perhaps this is what was needed to finally shake things up and get new apps and developers who want to take advantage of a void and fill it with apps that are more privacy focused.
I sure hope so.

I stopped using YouTube app on my devices years ago when Apple implemented content blockers for safari. while the app might be better, I got used to using safari for YouTub. I don’t think I miss anything, but than I don’t use YouTube that much in the first place

Waze is better, as is Google Maps than Apple Maps. But I don’t care, I don’t want them on my phone.

The only Google app and service I use willingly is YouTube. And I’m probably going to delete the app and just use Safari for my YouTube watching.

Follow the money... 💰
I'm well aware that they take money from Google for the search engine deal. My point is don't preach privacy and then still accept money from Google if they are so anti-privacy. Lots of members on here love pointing out flaws in Google and have no issue with Apple's agreement with Google. If you're going to stand on a soap box and say Google bad, then criticize Apple for taking their money.

If Apple truly cared about privacy, Duck Duck Go would be their default search engine.
