Moto actually gets it for the first time. Something that looks akin to a real watch that people will want to wear. What would you rather wear on your wrist, something like this or something that looks like a hunk of ipod stuck on a plastic band? Apple needs to take note and make whatever they have in mind stylish at the very least.

I think one thing many here seem to be forgetting.

This is effectively day one, of a 5, 10, 20 year move to wearable devices.
And yes, the mobile phone on day 1 was not the ultimate phone ever.

So don't make the mistake of rubbishing anything that's just started.

Also, an immensely important thing, as has been talked about over and over again is that, for many Watches, and any potential wearable can be a very unique fashion item. Having something open that, in theory any watch brand in the world could in time offer designed based upon this is a MASSIVE point.

And matters not if Apple ever make one, this could be in time a device that could replace carrying a large phone around for many.

In time................

Google is concerned....why release a video of vaporware with non-functioning devices...looked like simulations to me....when you start to show your hand....

'vaporware'

And the Moto 360 comes out THIS SUMMER, so explain to me what's imaginary about this product again?

there are very real uses for wearables, especially waterproof ones - kayaking, for example. Keep your phone in your drybox, use your watch to tell your wife how much longer you'll be, or to drop pins on your favorite fishing spot. There are a lot of times i don't want to take my phone out of my pocket or backpack for various reasons, but it'd still be nice to be able to control it easily without having to fiddle with it or press any buttons. Working on the mill in the shop, for example. Or welding. ...or when i'm wrenching on my truck and my phone is inside it, but i'm underneath. The list goes on and on. If they can pull it off well, i can see it being useful.

How much does it cost? What is its functionality? How long does the battery last? These are not trivial things.

1. Not vaporware
2. To get the developer community excited and moving on generating applications so when they are launched, they have a library of apps.

I mean really - the flipside to that argument would be "Great - so the released a watch - but look at their apps store NOTHING is available - what a joke!"

Wow. This place has changed so much recently. I been a member for a long time but regular post in here. Why are people so negative when it comes to Google? I use Mac, but also use Android. Is not our fault that Apple likes to keep everything behind the scenes unlike Google that opens up everything to public and they go from there. Competition is always good and Remember apple wasn't first in anything in a very long time.

I don't understand the concept of wearables. I just don't see the point. I certainly wouldn't buy one!

That's what said about the iPad when I first saw it. I have the iPhone 3G, why would I need a giant iPhone. Now it's an item that I travel with all the time.

Apple is letting Google be the test market for wearables. If everybody buys it, then Apple will release one. Otherwise it's vaporware.

Fashion is important, but wearables need to get a lot of things right besides just looking good. So far everyone is drooling over these devices based on looks alone. I'm curious to know what real life battery life is like, and how easy it is to read the display in full sun. And of course what the price will be.

Obviously, but people in this thread are calling it a paper or vapor launch when an actual product, which looks stunning, launches this summer, that's my point

I guess I'm one of the few who digs the concept of 'a computer on you're wrist' as I've been wearing a Suunto Core wrist computer 24-7 for the last five years. I have always loved the idea of having pertinent info ( altimeter, barometer, compass, temperature, storm alarm, sunrise/sunset, depth meter & multiple watch & alarm functions right on my wrist when I hit the surf or mountain bike etc. it's a hell of a lot easier than strapping my zip locked iPhone around my waist...

Whatever happened to Google TV? I thought that was the next big thing? And where's Google Glass? This company can't seem to actually execute much of anything. Lot's of commercials, fluffy fawning tech articles and thinly veiled ads on tech sites though.

But what do you expect from an advertising and PR company. That's what they do best.

Google TV was the last time I'm investing in anything Google comes up with that wasn't already established. They just can't seem to do anything right other than search, ads, and cheap.

Because it's Vaporware.

The only thing they've come out with is a USB Stick called Chromecast.

This is a good start. However it's still missing that "x factor" that makes it an immediate necessity, one of Apple's core strengths.

Very excited to see how the rest of the year plays out!

With the iPhone Apple had fewer competitors right at first.

With the watch, the field is going to be crowded right from the beginning.

The competition is having time to release one, two, and maybe three iterations of its products, before Apple enters the market (if at all).

Fuelband is awesome. Nike products are great. This MOTO watch looks sweet.

I love Apple stuff.... but ya can't wear a rumor on your wrist.

I personally am not sure I really need any of these gizmos, but I hope for Apple's sake that it releases its watch (if at all) within the next few months.

Agreed! And since the 'X-Factor' is now canceled here in the US...

Save the phone itself for more complicated things. Furthermore, you wouldn't want to try and use a phone while on a bike, would you?
Sure I would. I wouldn't even buy me an expensive phone holder for my bike. I would just drive with one hand, grab into my pocket and use my other hand to operate the iPhone. But I can see how this is not an option for phablet owners. Maybe smartwatches are a solution only to overcome the deficits of Android hardware? Saving the phone for more complicated tasks, is an idea that never came to me before. But if my phone would be such a giant atrocity, maybe I also would want to leave it in my bag.

I hope you can make the clock bigger than that, why does the weather temperature have to be bigger than the actual time? I mean it's still has to be a watch with extra functions. And some of them still looks bulky.

It's a mock up but looking at the time font on it. I'd say the size is probably about the size of a normal digital watch and big enough to see at a glance.

Looks like they're going in a good direction with this as far as function and style.

If it goes the Nexus route as far as pricing, it'll be affordable.

Good god, those things are ugly. Another swing and a miss. You should stick to search, Google....

Stop trying to make wearable computers happen, Google. It's not going to happen.
