Really? talking loud to our smartwatch in the bus? Someone could hear some important information from us!
Google make great videos. I still remember de google glass first video. But to make that in real life is not that easy.

I'll stick with my Sieko automatic watch until the day it, or I, die. I invested in it because I couldn't stand replacing batteries and I certainly don't need another device I need to plug in every night.

I know I'm not representative of the general population, but I do think we are still a few years off before technology catches up with what people think wearables are supposed to be doing for us.

I certainly don't need a wrist computer as the alternative to pulling out my phone or tablet when I want to see who called, texted or emailed.

Yeah - talking to Siri on the iPhone in public is what now?

In this thread..corporate cheerleaders crying and have irrational loyalties and emotional connections instead of people who enjoying new technology

Obviously, but people in this thread are calling it a paper or vapor launch when an actual product, which looks stunning, launches this summer, that's my point

It will cease to be a paper launch when the actual product ships. If it continually misses its launch dates, it will be vaporware. They've said an actual product will launch this summer. That's not a guarantee that it will, or that it will look the same.

The Palm Pre was supposed to be amazing. Best in show at CES. When it did ship, it disappointed. The moto concept looks great, but let's not get carried away yet.

Fashion is important, but wearables need to get a lot of things right besides just looking good. So far everyone is drooling over these devices based on looks alone. I'm curious to know what real life battery life is like, and how easy it is to read the display in full sun. And of course what the price will be.

I agree completely, and I think we can be sure that a lot of the product produced under this name will be total garbage. And yet, this crowded field still presents a problem for Apple, in that they will be even more strongly compelled to show how their wearables are distinctive. This is why I've argued all along that Apple won't release a "watch" (smart or otherwise) and they won't call it the "iWatch."

Perhaps if Google weren't headed by arrogant developers who only care about exploiting the user rather than producing quality products, it might be different.

Then there's also the whole thing where Google blatantly stole the entire iPhone concept and called it Android.

Not strictly true, they copied Blackberry and called it Android, then saw Jobs introduce the iPhone, realised it was superior, and chnaged Android into a clone of that instead.

I'm not since they have to very different strategies.

Apple wants to create a seamless, if close, eco-system that is the users hub for delivering content

Google isn't worried about a seamless system or a fragmented market as long as Google's web-based services are the focal point for the devices.

In the end, both can succeed.

Personally, until the "i" watches don't scream techno-nerd I have no interest in one; but then again I prefer an automatic or manual watch over digital movements as well.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Neither way of doing things is right or wrong. Just different. it's apparently obvious that there is space in the world for both methods.

but I can't get on this smartwatch craze as long as they continue to look like the geeky dick tracy watch I wore when i was 8 and got pants by the cool kids everyday in school.

I want that sexy, sleek steel watch, with precision timeface and movement. until smart atches can replicate the fact that watches are as much a fashion / jewelry statement, they will continue to be underwhelmingly niche product.

Until i see that look, i'll stick with my Citizen

Why did no one on that bus looked surprised that guy was shouting at his wrist?

How else are we supposed to identify all the undercover agents in the crowd?
One guy will talk into his wrist, then all the other people will too, and it will all become complete anarchy. ;)

Maybe all these wearables will make the need for undercover agents obsolete, plus it might confuse them if the people they are watching start speaking into their wrists too.

It is no less a dream than when the new Mac Pro was previewed. Mac Pro even had the vague delivery date of "fall" like this does summer. So this isn't any different.

Two points:

1) The Mac Pro announcement was out of character for Apple. They generally follow a ship at or shortly after announcement time policy.
2) They had a pre-production version on display, it was more than just a concept.

Looks great, but it's no iOS 8. ;)

If the iWatch does run a full version of iOS that's slimmed down and made super-efficient then that same software will scream on iPhone and iPad.

Are you blind ?!

Its going to be released in the summer

What's wrong with people here lol

What's wrong with people here lol is that they read the article. It's about a SDK, not a product. Some products based on the SDK are (supposedly) due later this year, but we haven't actually seen one of them yet.

Except Google come up with this sort of future 'product' advertising too often and it ends up being ages before its released if ever.

(I don't think it's true, but) it would be so funny if Apple aren't even thinking about bringing out an "iWatch" and they just put out false rumours to troll all the other tech companies and watch them scramble something round as quick as they can :D

I know you made the qualifier that you don't believe it to be true, but why are you guys obsessed with what everyone else does? Google has been working on wearable tech for quite some time now, a watch is just the next logical step. You seem to think Apple invented the concept of a smart watch .. the concept has been there for a LONG time, just look in old spy movies.

You guys need to get over it, it is doubtful that any of these tech giants care one bit about the rumor mill. They all (yes your beloved Apple included) probably have corporate spies keeping a view on things to see if there is a next huge thing coming along.

iPad 4 and 8GB iPhone 5c are available in stores. Android wear devices aren't available. hmmmmm

It would be worth comparing if Google didn't have a tablet or phone available ... but ... they do, and they are quite good. Google, releases the Nexus 5 at an incredible price (it's a fantastic phone, it won me over) as well as other tablets ... Apple, rehashing the same old products but at a new high price!

Android is innovation

Are they to just not compete?

Everything is copied

Ask any artist

There's nothing innovative about Android; not functionality and certainly not design-wise.

I'd rather have a smartphone that works over something childishly named after food.

Gosh, Google sure is good at making videos.

Was that demo in the first video an actual demo or an animated fake overlaid on the watch? It looks fake.
